  1. And Kenny, that company are very close to where I used to live!
  2. Hi Stuart, The interior of my S Type is Dove Grey, which is similar to use. There are a lot of leather preserving and cleaning products, but the one that seems to be the best. and which I have used is the Autoglym Leather cleaner, and the Autoglym Leather balm for preservative and feeding the leather. Whatever you use, elbow grease and patience need to be used. To use the cleaner, I use a toothbrush. Always use good absorbent cloths to buff up the leather, and microfibre for the exterior. Regards, Peter.
  3. Generally speaking, if you buy an early model of a car it can have teething troubles, whereas a later model will probably have those issues dealt with. There are always Friday night cars and there are about one in a thousand of them. It does not mean that if you have problems with a car that all of the models made by that manufacturer are bad. Peter.
  4. Hi Alex, I have had my s type 2.7D for two and a half years, and most of the 7000 miles i do a year is mostly short journeys, with probably a longer one about once a month, and I have never had a problem with the DPF. There are also several products available to clean the DPF, although I have never used them. Giving the car a longer run occasionally means basically you to do about 45mph for about 15 minutes after the car has warmed up. There is quite a bit of scaremongering about the DPF, but I have only come across one diesel owner who has had a problem with the DPF and that was a Mazda, not a Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Kenny, I put a post on yesterday with a link to a website of a Jaguar breaker, but is appears to have gone. Try Jagbreakers.net they will give a discount to JOC members in December, and might well have what you want. Rergards, Peter.
  6. Hi Stuart, and welcome to the club. The XF is the successor to the s type, and the early ones had the same 2.7 Diesel engine as the S Type D, and the 3 .0 litre Diesel was of similar design but improved to meet EU requirements. I had my car Terrcleaned, which made a great difference to performance and well worth the £120 I paid. Further to that, I used Shell V power regularly --- some members though find no problems with standard 95RON. The 3.0 D has two EGR valves, one each side of the V6 engine, and they need a good blast every now and then. I have had my S Type for two and half years and it has done 65k miles with only the odd minor issue, and it runs smoothly and quietly. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Kenny, Have you tried Jagbreakers.net who are club members and will give 20% discount to club members in December? Regards Peter.
  8. Good News, then, Russ. We make good cars in Birmingham! Peter.
  9. Hi Glyn, Andy is quite right. The S type does need a battery in good condition. I had a few very minor problems such as things like the heated rear window not working, and found that the car had been standing for a couple of months and really just needed a good charge putting into the battery. The dealer I bought the car from was most apologetic when he found out that the mechanic who prepared the car had only given it an hour or two on the charger. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Davina, and Welcome to the Club. I have googled those names, and I do recall this case very well, as there was a similar on here a year or two before. If you a can find a good Jaguar dealer close to where you live -- it is always best to buy from someone close to where you live as it makes it easier to pester them if something goes wrong --- and tell them what you want, they will source one for you. There are several big automotive groups who have quite a few dealerships. and several members who work for such dealers. Personally, I think that these people who will tell you that they will source one for you, particularly if they want a deposit, are in the business for themselves rather than providing a service. The Main dealers will have premises that can't be moved overnight, and though I would not have my car serviced by a main dealer -- as they charge too much -- I have always bought cars from a main dealer for that reason. Let us know how you get on. Peter.
  11. That sounds a very good product, Kenny. Years of having a company car changed every year or so made me forget about issues such as seals and similar. I don't envy your trip into Stockport, Ian. I used to know the area well but got quite lost last time I was there. I will try the car accessary shop a short distance away. Peter.
  12. Sorry, Barry, The last time I spent a long time in France was when I cycled to the South of France for a fortnight and stayed a month. Googling around though, there does appear some English Mechanics in France -- Mechanic06, and the English Car Mechanics. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Ian, Try luggage fusebox F20. Good luck. Peter.
  14. Hi Ian, I always try the cheapest option, as becomes a Lancastrian. A bucket of quite warm water and some shampoo or similar will clean the seals and should get rid of the noise. It also seemed to keep the seals flexible, too. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Barry, Jim is a nice guy, and I think you will get on. I bought my s type in June 2013 a few days after my X type SE was car jacked. I like to keep my cars in good order, and this car is going to last me a long time -- hopefully. The only issue I have had with it is the occasional "Parkbrake Malfunction" which is cured by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes and as long as you keep a note of the radio code you will be OK. The EGR valves sometimes get a bit sticky and the code of P0402 comes up when you scan it with an OBD2 scanner. A good blast on the motorway or a can of Wynns EGR Diesel cleaner [about £10] does the job. Let us know how you get on with the car - and France. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Barry, and welcome to the club. There is another member [stray Cat - Jim] in a silver S type, also in retirement in France! The car you have is not too disimilar to mine, also a 07 plate SE 2.7 diesel, which is a rather good engine, and which you will be surprised with at its performance. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Ian, I had my car terra cleaned 18 months ago, and I also noticed an immediate improvement in mpg and performance. The best mpg I have had is 51.3 mpg on a 90 mile journey to Sheffield and for the round trip 48.6 mpg. The 2.7 litre diesel is currently returning just over 30 mpg on city driving and about 42 mpg on mixed driving. Peter.
  18. Hi Sarah, Welcome to the club. There is a member of the club who breaks up Jaguars and currently has some S Types. Look up his website jagbreaker.co.uk His garage is based in Bolton and I am sure he will give you a good price. Lete me know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Damian, and welcome to the club. Although I have a "proper" spare wheel in my boot, I always carry a canister of Holts Tyre weld as 18" wheels are a bit heavy for an old so and so like me. But I do have a question, and who better to ask than yourself --- has the canister got a shelf life and should I replace it regularly? Meanwhile enjoy your trip to Bucharest. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Michelle, My wheels are alloy too but yours must have different valves. I will look up the site later and give you a link. You might find what you are looking for on eBay but you will have to get the UK site. $77 dollars is quite a lot of money, and shipping costs are always high. I took and x type part to Loughrea near Galway earlier this year for a member to avoid shipping costs. Regards, Peter. I have just looked up "Tyre valve extension kit" on google and it came up with the Amazon site plus pictures of the bit you want. Lete me know how you get on. Peter.
  21. Hi Darren, and welcome to the club. You have already seen the posts, and you can guess that there are are a lot of helpful people in the club Good luck with the issues. Regards, Peter.
  22. HI Michelle, and welcome to the club. You can put air in your tyres without an extension kit. The pressure should be 32psi all round. But an extension kit can be obtained from Amazon for £2.04. The tube is screwed on to the valve and just makes the connection with the tyre valve easier. I use an electric tyre inflator which I keep in the car - Halfords or a good garage shop will sell them. You plug it in to the power point in the car, connect it to the tyre and start the engine. !0 minutes - Job done! All garages should have a good air pump, and I am certain someone will give you a hand if you have never done the job before. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Shaun, I use Wynns engine clean occasionally - they recommend every 3000 miles. Redex I believe is good also. I have also had the terraclean service on my car, which is worth the money. When my EGR valves [two on the s type] warning come up [Code P0402] I either give the car a good blast on the A38, or use a can of Wynns EGR Diesel cleaner. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Derek, and welcome to the club. Jaguar recommend 5W - 30 viscosity engine oil for my 2007 S Type Diesel. I would suggest that you have a look at Opie Oils website -- they are members of the club -- who will be able to tell you what oils they recommend for your model. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Nick, The ZF gearbox in its various forms is to be found in the BMW, Maserati, Ferrari, Aston Martin Lotus, Alfa Romeo, and Ford, as well as Jaguar. It is also to be found in many other models plus vans, trucks and just about everything on wheels. I think that they only time it wasn't fitted on European Cars other than German ones was in between 1939 and 1945. It is being rumoured locally that they are opening an assembly plant in Sutton Coldfield, which will be handing for the Jaguar Factories. regards, Peter.
