  1. Just a thought, Ernest, but try switching on and off the ABS/DSC button a couple of times. Engineers and accountants have a lot in common. Engineers try the simplest first, which a usually the cheapest, and accountants try the cheapest first, which are usually the simplest! Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Sal. The S type is a great car both in comfort and performance. The 2.7Diesel is also a good workhorse as well as a performance engine. Lowering the car is something I would personally not want to do, as it is quite a low can to start with, and going over a speed bump too quickly is very easy to ground. Just a small caveat, Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Martyn, The S type 2.7 D has an auxiliary heater that helps the big diesel to warm up the cabin quicker. I drive from here to Lichfield, 12 miles, once a week and the engine takes all that time to get to normal operating temperature. Like all diesels they do take their time warming up. If there is any problem, it could be the auxiliary heater, but 10 miles is not that far for a diesel. Regards, Peter.
  4. I saw it in English -- but unfortunately a lot of journalists don't understand English very well.
  5. Sainsburys was the best of the supermarket fuel in a survey --- but my local Shell Station is 400 yards away, and the nearest Sainsburys with a Petrol Station is 12 miles away --- so not cost effective to save 2p a litre. Peter
  6. Hi Carol, and Welcome to the Club. You will find the Club Members very friendly and helpful, and with one thing in common --- they all lover their Jaguars. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Frankie, I am positive that you would have had a message if the bulbs had failed. Those members with more electrical expertise than myself, and there are a lot, will be able to offer some help. I would check the fuses, and then try the lights with the auto switched off --- there could be a fault on the switch stalk. Just guessing, but much cheaper than a Main dealer, Good luck, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Steve. My S type is the 2.7 diesel and I do use Shell V Power diesel, though luckily the local Shell Station is only a few hundred yards away. I have been advised against Supermarket fuel although other use it without any faults occurring think so long as the fuel is 99 RON it should be OK and on the occasion you pass a Shell Station you could top up your tank. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Andrew, I have come across engine cut outs before but not when the brake is applied, although if stopping/slowing down is causing the cut out it could be possibly a fuel pump fault. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Ernest, The handbook always says to go to a main dealer, but I think a good independent garage should be able to do the job much cheaper -- if indeed any work is needed. There may be some members who will also be able to advise. Regards, Peter.
  11. I knew that there was a key slot on the XK, Neil, but not exactly where. Some of the newer Jaguars don't have that facility, and problems do occur with flat batteries. Peter.
  12. Hi Lana, Paul is quite correct -- leather is expensive stuff to repair. $175 does not seem too high -- any more would be. I originate from the North of England, [where we tend to count our pennies] and would certainly attempt to refurbish the worn parts if possible, although I couldn't give a definite opinion without seeing your car. You car is the same age as mine so the seats should not be too badly worn. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the club, Neil. I think there is a key entry system on the XK --- there is on the S Type. It is at the left hand side above the number plate on the s type. But XK owners will be a bit more exact. Regards, Peter.
  14. My son has an 06 X type estate --- I will have a look at his when I next see him, but hopefully there will be a member along who does know the x type estate. Don't let the Fuse box[es] put you off. They ate not very challenging. Peter.
  15. That's four of us! Raisin [Paul], Peter, Stan [stanboy] Tooster [Michael].
  16. Hi Steve, I think the proper jacking points are OK for us with the jack supplied, but I think that using a trolley jack you have to be careful where you connect it. Better safe than sorry! Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Geoffrey I just love the S type too -- Grace, Pace and Space -- as Sir William lots said. Even my humble 2.7 litre Diesel has those qualities. I have had mine for two years and three months, an it has been very good to me, and I think I return the compliment --- the best fuel and plenty of TLC. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Joe, Lifting with a trolley jack does cause damage, and is easily avoided buy using a piece of woo about 12" to 18" long and about 6" wide. I learnt that in my caravanning days. Peter.
  19. It is curious, Michael, but I have also to my certain knowledge 6 people from the same town as me with the forename and surname, with only two related. Peter.
  20. Hi Ian, The driver's side EGR looks the easiest, and at a guess I think a good mechanic would not take longer than an hour - maybe two. If you have a good garage nearby, and mechanic could fit it. But I don't do dirty hands any more!! Regards Peter.
  21. Hi Andy, From what I hear, you won't know that you are towing a caravan with that engine! We stopped caravanning just 4 years ago and practically gave away our Abbey Archway 470/2 with remote mover and all the bits that went with it. SWMBO said I was too old! Enjoy. Peter.
  22. I have had a look around, Robin, but I can't find andy reference to what those last two letters refer to. There are couple of members who work for Jaguar/Jaguar Dealers who might spot this post and tell us what they know about them. Peter.
  23. Hi David and Welcome to the club. I am not an engineer, but at a guess I would be inclined to think that it could be a fuel problem. There are several fuel system cleaning additives that could be worth spending a few shillings on. Engine warming up? This can take about 12 miles in my 2.7 litre diesel, and this weather I would not be too concerned by 7 miles. Maybe members who drive this model will have some ideas, too. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Lana, Just a quick post before we head out in the rain to the Supermarket. TCP Global apparently are suppliers of AutoGlym products in the USA. Just try them before you incur shipping costs from elsewhere. Also try Walmart, as they also carry a wide range of similar products. It is Walmart ASDA over here. Regards, Peter.
  25. Absolutely! I would also take the filter to the main dealer who allegedly serviced the car and show them it. I also have used a Mobile Mechanic for over 12 years to service my cars. He treats them as his own and has pride in his work. Peter.
