  1. Hi Andy, I was thinking of going to the NEC myself on Saturday but SWMBO said that there were too many things to do in the house! Peter.
  2. Thanks for the tip, Andy. Saddle soap was recommended to me, but it has gone into the boot polish box! Peter.
  3. Hi Russ, You could try Amazon or eBay for lens cleaning products, but a good independent Auto Accessory shop will often know and source something that will do the job. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Lana, I have had my car since the 24th June 2013. My previous car, also a Jaguar was stolen [carjacked] on the 7th June 2013. A lot of people forget about the leather - is needs both cleaning and a preservative, and my car will be getting the treatment today, weather permitting, and following Jim's recommendation I will be using Autoglym products, first a cleaner and then a polish and preservative. I don't know if you can get these products in the USA, but they are very well respected in the UK. Don't begrudge the cost, and get the best stuff. My car is a bit "foreign" for the USA, as it has a 2.7 litre diesel engine with twin turbochargers, whereas I guess that yours is the 3.0 litre petrol. I use a mobile mechanic for all my servicing and repairs - `I have used him for over 13 years - and he will come, take my car away, do the job and bring it back. If it is a small job he will do it on my driveway. That is the sort of mechanic to look for, and if you know such people, they will do the best job. I have driven quite a lot in the USA, although mostly in the South and the Mid West, but they won't let me rent a car anymore, as they tell me that I am too old! You will enjoy being part of the Jaguar Family! Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Peter, Finding a good garage can be rather difficult. And I think any marks on the car shows a lack of respect, and you don't want that at all. Still, experience teaches! Regards Peter.
  6. Hi Amal, My car has the SE spec and also has a lot of optional extras, which were factory fitted, and include a proper spare wheel with a matching alloy wheel. It also had a new engine fitted by Jaguar at 21k miles and while in Jaguar ownership, and has only done 64,800 miles now, which is nothing for a 2.7 diesel. I use the three or four buck system of cleaning and only use microfibre cloths -- a bucket of luke warm water, then a full rinse, then a shampoo using best quality autoglym shampoo, a good rinse off the then drying off with a proper drying towel [Halfords - £8]. All it needs then is buffing with a microfibre cloth. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Lana, Nice pictures --- and the same colour as my car, and also with the leaper. Peter.
  8. Hi Lana, There appear to be two markets that seem to have different choices in the electric equipment - the USA and Poland. Many s types were exported to the USA, mostly the 3.0 litre V6, in fact almost the same number as were bought in the UK. I live only 6 miles from the Jaguar factory that built the S Type, and it still is a head turner. I think that you have already found that the club is a friendly place to belong to, and we look forward to seeing some photos of your car. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Oleg, Manual transmission --- most cars in the UK are manual transmission. In fact, the x type 2.0 litre diesel doesn't have an Auto version. My last Jaguar was a manual transmission model too, a 2.5 AWD x type. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Lou, and welcome to the Club. Just about headlamp lenses, and adding to what Joe has said, there is a cleaning kit at Halfords, which several members have used, and also some members have used T Cut, Brasso, and toothpaste with a lot of elbow grease. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Joseph, You need to use a diagnostic tool or get a garage to diagnose the issue. An OBD2 scanner can be got quite cheaply on eBay. It could be a faulty sensor at best. The restricted performance is to ensure no damage is caused to the engine. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Karl, Following what Steve has said, it does look as if the fuel is "bouncing" back to the pump sprout. A straightened out wire coat hanger or similar would be a good probe. I would also be worth getting a petrol container and trying to put it in gently which could at least get you to a dealer. Good luck Peter.
  13. Hi Amal, The S Type is the direct descendent of the Mk 2 Jaguar, just slightly different in shape, with modern technology on both the mechanical and electrical side. When Sir William Lyons, the founder of the Jaguar Marque designed the car he said "Grace. Space and Pace". The S type had all of those. When I was a bit younger, and rode fast motorcycles, the mechanic who repaired my bikes restored a Mk 1Jaguar and I fell in love with it. Fifty years later I bought its successor. Only about 330k S type Jaguars were made and about 190k of them went for export, mostly to the USA, where they are still driven. I fitted a leaper to my s type about two months ago after owning the car for over two years, and I do like it. Even here, and I live 6 miles from where the car was built, it still gets heads turning, and quite a few remarks. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Jason, and welcome to the club. I am unsure as to what that unit/module is also. It does look a bit complicated. Lana might be able to give some answers. Peter.
  15. Hi Lana. and Welcome to the club. First, congratulations on getting into Medical school. The s type is a great car, and I have the same model year as do you. The various specifications of the s type are many and there are a lot of optional extras. It might be worth trying to find out what the specification of your car was when it left the factory in Castle Bromwich. A Jaguar Main dealer will tell you that from your VIN number, or you could try looking at this website which does not always work. Vindecoderz My son has just bought an x type and one of the optional extras fitted is Bluetooth audio connectivity. If you switch on Bluetooth on your 'phone and press the telephone button on your dashboard it should tell you that you have it. All necessary microphones are fitted to s types and are quite unobtrusive, If you have not got bluetooth I think you will have to get the Bluetooth connectivity module, which are probably very pricey. Could you tell us the model of your car, also. [s, SE or Sport] and your location, -- the latter will assist if you are trying to find a Module for you car. Meanwhile you will enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Neil. Liz has given you a nice picture of what your car will do, and Kenny has also given a little caveat -- these cars can really move when you want them to. I don't even use the "S" button in bad weather. Sir William Lyons said about the S Type that it had "Grace, Pace and Space." These cars are very comfortable, but there are times when the Pace has to give way to the Grace! Regards, Peter.
  17. At a guess, Chris, I think a reprogramming could be the answer. Peter.
  18. Hi Gavin, There was a recent survey on Tyres which indicated that Goodyear and Vredestein were the best on stopping in the wet, noise, and met with the EU requirements. I fitted two on the front of my s type [18" wheels] for £250. 17' wheels will be cheaper, of course. Also it is worth having a look at the survey which can be found on the Halfords site, where you type in your Reg number and they will give the tyre and price plus the rating for stopping and noise plus the EU recommendations etc. You should also consider the J Rating on a tyre which means that it was designed for Jaguars. Having said that, Tyre are a very personal choice and if a driver has good experience of a certain tyre brand he is often loath to change to another make. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Iain, To include a photo, look at either "my media" on the top bar, or "More reply options" at the bottom. Thus: not my car! Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Richard, Just google Jaguar satnav update and you will get a lot of sites. About £25 is about average price. Peter.
  21. Hi Alan, Just google Jaguar OBD 2 Codes and you should get the full list. Peter.
  22. You might get a queue, Andrew. My car is coming to the end of its "alleged' paint protection 3 years next June, and while I have given it its winter treatment, I think that Easter will need to see a bit of TLC. Peter.
  23. Hi Steve, I understand about arthritic knees. Getting under a car for me too is a bit difficult, and getting up again s a bit worse. I could not hazard a guess on cost without getting a good look, but if you can find a good body shop it might be worth getting a quote. Getting the plastic covers off the sills will give a good idea of any rust problems. It could be mostly a welding job, and those with the expertise should be able to give you indication of the cat. Regards, Peter.
  24. Great question, Liz. I am still a fan of the XK, although I do like the F Type.. There is a Red one that can be seen around here -- rather nice. We need something with good rear seating for the grandchildren, though, and the s type fits the bill! Maybe an s type Mk IV before I go to that great racetrack in the sky! Peter.
  25. Hi Jim, I bought one for my S Type --- a universal scanner -- and it stopped working. So I bought another, for £20 which works. Curiously when I first used it, the other one started working too! Peter.
