That must have been a great experience, Paul. I guess it must be like low flying. On another topic, expect a small package tomorrow or Friday. Regards, Peter.

Hi Kobir, Unless you are able to do this work yourself, it could be expensive. What was on the advisory list last January should really have been sorted out. It could be possible that in January 2016 you could get a fail in those components. Just my opinion, though! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Simon. The members are a friendly group of people and will offer great advice to issues that are posted. Some photos would be good! Regards, Peter.

New Owner - 2005 2.7 V6 diesel Sport - Love it!

Hi Adam, Try the David Manners Group or SNG Barrett. Failing them, you can always take a chance on eBay. Peter. -
New Owner - 2005 2.7 V6 diesel Sport - Love it!
Old Peter replied to DaftMule's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Adam and welcome to the Club. The s type is a great car to drive, and the 2.7 Diesel is a great engine. Wing Mirror? Mine are both similar so I think there haas been an after market change. The calm belt should be changed at 105k so you can rest easy on that one. The touch screen is a expensive item --- it was on my wish list when I bought my car. Kerbed alloys do happen with most big cars --- mine will get a fix when I have £250 spare, Meanwhile enjoy your car. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Shaun, i have wondered about the buzzing noise but at the moment cannot hazard a guess. When I see my son's x type I will see if that is doing something like that. The whining noise you have sorted. The Bluetooth module can be retrofitted, and there are several members who will advise. Regards, Peter.

Hi Stan, It is a good idea, and I am glad you have posted a comment and brought it back to the top of the list, as it were. Paul and I will be dead chuffed [to use the vernacular] is some regular meets can take place, and particularly those that can assist other members. Regards, Peter.

Hi Amal, Another little tip about the SatNav. There has been a rise in the number of small industrial estates and the planners often insist on traffic islands to be built to ease access. Those built after 2012 will not be recognised, and you will have to note the road number for which you should be looking. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Richard. I think your car could stand a diagnostic check. Phil has posted a good possibility. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Ian. I have an indigo blue metallic S Type, which I think is for life. I have been on the road in various modes of transport for over 60 years and it is the best car I have ever driven. Regards, Peter.

My leaper is a stick on, but is very solid. Measure twice, drill once! Peter.

Hi Jackie, When I was on holiday in the West of Ireland I visited a club member in Loughrea with a part for his 2009 X Type. He did not have the touch screen but had a 'phone holder and used his mobile 'phone as a Sat Nav. He maintained it was better and had taken him all over Europe without a problem. It occurs to me that the new bigger screen 'phones - iPhone6+ etc - would do a good job Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, I heard recently that Jaguar s type and x type prices for good cars are on the rise. A restoration could be worthwhile particularly if you are doing some of the work yourself. Peter.
-
Hi Paul, and welcome to the Club. Early s types are becoming a rarity, and it is great to see them being bought and sold and getting looked after. Some photos would be good. Regards, Peter.

Hi Liz, and welcome to the club. We have one thing common, we all just love our Jaguars, the most iconic make of car, and made in the West Midlands. It is great to see some members with cars like the F Type as well as other members with older cars taking care to ensure that their cars are working well and looking great. My younger son used to borrow my S Type when he wanted to make an impression, and now he has just bought an x type estate himself! I hope you will enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your Jaguar! Regards, Peter.

The do get finished, Paul. Our house is 90 years old and I know the feeling. I have a shelf in the garage with umpteen half empty tins of pain! Peter.

Welcome to the club, Ben. With 65k on the clock it is just run in. I don't think there is a problem with chains at all, but some members have changed the gearbox oil at around 70k in spite of the "Sealed for life" in the owners manual. The s type is a great car to drive and a head turner. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Paul. I look forward to seeing your car finished and raring to go! Keep us posted, Regards, Peter.

Hi Ian, The EGR valves of the s type are positioned either side of the "V" on the V6 Engine. They look very tricky to get them off to clean. Luckily the EGR cleaner comes in a spray. First the engine should be at normal operating temperature. Then you remove the air filter -- easy job. Then you have to get someone to keep the engine running at about 1200 rpm. You can put a brick on the accelerator pedal instead. Then spray the from the can into the air intake. The engine will start to race a bit which shows that the spray is working. Keep the spray going in quickish bursts till the can is empty. Then put the air filter back and take the car for a run - about 15 minutes will do. Job Done, Peter.
-
Hi Ian, I do have some trouble with the EGR valves -- two on the s type, and usually give them a good blast on the A 38, and facing that a can of Wynns EGR cleaner. Regards, Peter.

HI jackie and welcome to the club. The 2011/12 disc is the last on produced for the s type. I am unsure about retrofitting a more up to date Sat nav similar to that in use in later Jaguar Models. If Raistlin [Paul] spots your post he will advise you, as he is an accomplished retro fitter. Regards, Peter.

Hi Wasi, I don't think that the 2.0 litre diesel comes in an auto version. The 2.2 litre diesel does have an auto version. Peter.
-
Hi Ian, Is you car the diesel engined version? If so, the Owners Manual does suggest a gentle accelerator while the engine is cold. I recall the days before the automatic choke, which also limited you speed somewhat till it was pushed in. Modern cars still have a choke, and I think that is the reason why you shouldn't kick down while the engine is a bit cold. I am luck, in one way, as I live in an urban area with a 30 mph area for about three miles in all directions. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Simon. Jim knows a lot about the finer points of cars. Fluids are a very important part of the modern car, quite cheap to replace, but some mechanics can't be bothered doing it when servicing the car, if it looks OK. The mobile mechanic who services my car treats it as if it was his own, and has a lot of pride in his work. That is why I have used him for 15 years. Regards, Peter.

Nice idea, Jim. A lot of people think that engine bays don'y need cleaning, but I feel that a dirty engine bay is an indication of disrespect for the car! A bit daft, I know, but a car is not clean if some of it isn't.. I would polish the underside if I was young enough to get underneath! Peter.
