  1. Welcome to the club, Alan. Is your car a diesel or petrol? It is worth having an OBD2 scanner -- they are quite cheap -- which will tell you what the code is which will indicate the problem. My engine warning light came on on Saturday. I just plugged in the scanner, it read Code P0402, which I looked up and found that it was too much exhaust gas hanging around the EGR valves [2 of them on the S type], which was cured by a good blast on the A 38. The S type is a great car to drive, and I hope you enjoy both the car and the Club. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Paul, Can you see the head of the Leaper on your way in? I used to use a table tennis ball on a string the get the distance right inside the garage. Peter.
  3. Hope so, Kenny. I have told him he is now eligible to join. He is Stephen Peter, known usually as Steve. Regards, Peter.
  4. I think that there are some common items between the x type and the s type and also between the s type and the XJ.
  5. I found out the spec as from Castle Bromwich and a comparison again the Standard spec for a 2.7 SE showed the there was £11994 's worth of optional extras put on the car. I surprised me how much cost there was in some of the items, such as a full size matching alloy spare wheel. Peter.
  6. My younger son who understands Jaguars, mostly mine, has taken the plunge and has just bought his first Jaguar. An X Type Sport 2.0 litre diesel Estate in pale blue metallic on an 06 plate. I spent two weeks looking for it, speaking to several Arthur Daley's and their cousins before finding two which we looked at today. The first one was only 3 miles away but very basic, and the blue smoke from the exhaust put me off somewhat. The second one was 48 miles away in Derbyshire and after a good look at it and a test drive he followed me back with it!
  7. HI Ian, Glad the brake issue is solved. If you want a good guide to prices for Jaguars, go and look at the David Manners Group Website, who have a great online catalogue. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi CBers, and welcome to the club. The 2.7 Diesel is a great engine. I had my engine Terracleaned after a year of use and it made a real difference both to performance and economy. I also use the best quality fuel - Shell V Power - as a performance engine does like the best fuel. The only issues I have had with my car is the occasional "Parkbrake Malfunction" which is rectified by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, although you have to reset the radio, etc and the one touch on the windows. The other issue was the amber warning light and the scanner giving me Code P0402, which is the EGR valves sticking. A good blast on the motorway often cures it but also Wynns Diesel EGR cleaner does the job. You will enjoy your car - the best one I have ever owned. Regards, Peter.
  9. I have just ordered one, and it cost just £1.35, so I ordered two! Peter.
  10. Hi Robert, I will just look up the item as described, and for £1.41 I will not have to break the piggy bank. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Paul and John, If you google "S Type Jaguar" you will see a topic "Images for S Type Jaguar". A look through the images will bring up several examples. Regards, Peter.
  12. That's a thought,Paul. There is only one way of finding out. Regards, Peter.
  13. I have had the bulb failure message three times in two years, twice on my holiday in Ireland. Replacement is easy which cures the message. Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Will. Good luck with the numberplate. I have never had a personalised plate as there is only one I have seen which I like, but would cost more than my car! Regards, Peter.
  15. Sometimes an embellishment adds something to a car, and sometimes takes something away, and opinions from other owners are often very useful.
  16. Hi John, I think you are doing the right thing. You have a new car and giving it a good start is really a good investment. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Joe. Your car looks great, and I admire the work you have done on it. There was a West Midlands Meet in September at the Gaydon Motor Museum with quite a few S types there, although I would have like to see an S Type R there too. I used to go to Stoke on Trent quite a lot in the eighties and nineties to the Steelworks at Shelton, and when I retired in 1999 I was given a great party by the lads from the works, and the Royal Doulton Figurine "A Fond Farewell" takes pride of place in my display cabinet. We have quite a few members in Staffordshire and there are thoughts of sounding out members for a regular meet, After all, all the club members have one thing in common. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Paul, I had an experience with a certain charity some years ago when trying to get rid of a TV in full working order that was taking up too much space. I was told by the Assistant Manager to bring it in myself, and when I pointed out that I couldn't lift it, being in my seventies at the time he told me that they hadn't the time to collect it. [They advertised that collected bulk items]. When I contacted the charity on their website and complained I had an immediate 'phone call from the Manager of the said store asking if the next morning would be suitable for collection, and also telling me that the Assistant manager was going on a retraining course. I got a letter a couple of weeks later saying that they had sold the said TV for £25, and thanking me. Peter.
  19. Very interested, Paul. My satnav has the last disc allegedly produced for the S Type [2012/13]. It can lead you astray in certain new areas! Peter.
  20. Hi Nigel, and Welcome to the club. I have had a very different experience from you with my S type, having had it for two years and 4 months. Other than two new tyres, and servicing, the only cost I have had is a few cans of Diesel EGR cleaner. I did buy my car from Stratstone in Solihull with a three months warranty. Did you approach the dealer who sold the car to you as I think that there should be some obligation on him. I know the feeling of being an OAP -- I have been one for 16 years! Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Kevin and Welcome to the club. The problem you have is also there on the S Type both on my car and others. I have tried various methods of removing them using Auto Sol, T Cut, Brasso etc and it still comeback in an hour or so. I have not yet looked always of replacing them, although painting them in the body colour of black would seem a good solution. I will look around and see if there are sources for replacing the trim entirely. Regards, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Shaun. The X type is a tried and proven car, and you will enjoy the way it drives. I had the 2.5 AWD model and enjoyed it immensely. Use the best fuel and she will treat you well, Regards, Peter.
  23. I will try to do one, Chris.
  24. I was thinking along those lines too, Chris, but I finished up in Marks and Spencer with a 20% off voucher and bought one there but I did attach a small [3cm] leaping Jaguar badge in Chrome. Peter.
  25. If Jon [the Voices] spots this, he could help, Paul. He is a Jaguar Salesman, and very helpful. Regards Peter.
