  1. I have to buy a new dinner jacket, Kenny, as the one in my wardrobe is now too big! I bought the one in my wardrobe as the other one was too small. I wish I had kept that one!
  2. That is nice, Brent!
  3. Welcome to the Club, David. There is a Mobile service in the West Midlands who appear to be well thought of. It is a growing trade, and I would guess if you googled "Mobile Auto Locksmith" you would find one far cheaper than a Jaguar main dealer. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Jon, I wanted a Jaguar in the days I rode motorbikes. The Owner of theGarage I used to take my motorbikes to in Sefton was restoring a Jaguar Mk 1 in Old English White in 1963. It took me almost 50 years to own one. Jaguar made only 330k s types ---- the original style with modern technology --- and only about 40% of them remained in the UK. Main dealers of every type of car do charge quite a lot for repairs, and I was lucky in 2001 in finding a mobile mechanic to look after my 1999 Rover Sterling. The main dealer [Colliers Jaguar] charged £325 + VAT for a full service. He charged £75. He has serviced and repaired my cars ever since. I think that the S Type is a future classic and just hope that some of the younger owners look after them as the car deserves it! Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Marcus. Some good tips already there and will probably sort your problem. I hope so. On the AC problem I have never come across that one personally, but I think it can only be the AC. Regards, Peter.
  6. HI Graham, The Mk 2 had a leaper as standard, but many S Type owners have added one. Mine is a stick on. Peter.
  7. I know the feeling, Chris. I had company cars for 29 years, and it comes as a blow when you have to deal with and pay for things like servicing, Road Fund, Fuel, insurance etc! Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Derek. I think you are correct in your advice. I always make sure my car's MOT is about three weeks before it is due, and my mechanic does a service at the same time. I have used a mobile mechanic for over 12 years and he is very good indeed. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Ralph, Your best bet would be to look at Opie Oils website, and they will tell you the appropriate oil to go into your gearbox. They will ask you to put in your Reg Number and take it from there. I could not guess what oil is in your gearbox, as a previous owner might have done an oil change. Regards, Peter.
  10. There is a stick on one available, Graham. It works OK. Peter
  11. Welcome to the Club, Michael. The club is a friendly bunch of people who will assist when needed. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Jon, Very interested if you have one. See PM. Peter.
  13. Hi Jeff, and welcome to the club. Try the David Manners Group, or SNG Barrett. They do supply genuine parts and both re rather well thought of. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Rowley, When I was a youngster there was a rhyme in my family. Both my Grandfathers were names Peter, and so was my father. I have a son named Peter, and two grandsons named Peter. The Rhyme was:- There's Old Peter, Young Peter, and Young Peter's son. There will always be another Peter when Old Peter's gone. So I am now Old Peter! Back on topic, thought, I am rather glad that you agree with me [and a few others] that V Power suits the Jaguar best ---- I also get my £ voucher every so often. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Ralph, When I rode high performance motor bikes, I used to change the engine oil every other week.. I used to work at the Steelworks in Shotton with one week Sunday to Friday and the next week Monday to Thursday. The oil was drained on Thursday night and refilled on the Friday morning. Peter.
  16. Hi Jim, We have a lot in common. My motor bikes used to get fed on 100 Octane Fuel, and were suitably tuned to go like The chariot of Jehu --- verily like the wind. Nowadays I like to drive gently, and, yes, the s type does turn heads even here in Brummagem where it was made. "Grace, Space and Pace" -- Sir William Lyons. Enjoy France! Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Jon, My son is currently looking for an X Type estate, and is [at last] following my advice in looking for a good dealership rather than a private sale or a dodgy dealer. We did look at a Nissan x trail, but found that the fact that it had had a fair swipe on the passenger side, and that it needed mucking out --- I have used those words instead of cleaning. We eventually found one, that looked clean, from Evans Halshaw, and would have gone to Milton Keynes to see it on Friday, but the dealership rang up to say that it wasn't there and they would try to locate it!! Roll on Monday to see if they have found it! Experiences are good to share, and well worth it! Good luck Regards Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Kevin. The Jaguar experience is unique. My S type is the best car I have ever driven, and I have been driving cars for over 50 years. The club is a friendly and helpful bunch of people, and sharing experiences and information is a key to why there are a lot of members. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Muatez, and welcome to the Club. I have heard that there are several levels of suspension, so I am sure that something can be done. I had read somewhere that there is a Sports version of suspension and a Comfort level. It is worth making an enquiry at a good garage. Regards, Peter
  20. Welcome to the Club, Paul. I was thinking along similar lines as Dave. I have come across this before in a friends Austin Allegro. It just needed the fuel line disconnected, a quick burst on the starter, and reconnection. Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the Club, Ian. Your experience will be welcomed, as sharing experiences is very helpful. Enjoy your car! Regards, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the club, Ian. It is interesting to know all of the different methods of keeping our cars nice and shiny as well as being protected from the weather. My car is getting a three hour wash at the moment! Regards Peter.
  23. Forgot that, Garry!
  24. Hi Rodney, Tom has given you some great advice [as always]. If you want to buy online Opie Oils is the place to go. Peter.
  25. Hi Ralph, and Welcome to the club. The best place to get the correct oil and the the parts is Opie Oils. They have a great online shop. The are good friends of the club, offer a good price, and are a well established company, Many members of the club have changed gearbox oil around 75k with beneficial effects Regards, Peter.
