I think it is just the amber light, Garry, that is on.
-
I think it was, Chris. If you had been able to plug in your code reader it would have generated a code saying that you needed to top up the coolant. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Rod. I used to tow with a Rover 825 Sterling Auto. I would like to bet the X type will be a touch better. Meanwhile, Just wait for the Caravan season to start, and enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.

S Type 2003 - possible blown head gasket
Old Peter replied to gavinparker1983's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Welcome to the Club, Gavin. I think you are right - unfortunately. Others with more technical savvy that me will assist. Peter. -
Yes, Andy. I had had a few issues with the electronic handbrake sticking on. I just disconnect the battery for 10 minutes which lets the computer reset. Connect it up again, put in the radio code and off you go. Peter.
-
Hi Andrew, You will have to reset the settings, radio, clock etc if you disconnect. 5 minutes if you have the radio code handy. You can connect the battery to another power source to save doing that. Peter.

Hi Chris, You will see the number on the box when you open it. The diagram in the owners handbook does not give the location. Peter.
-
Hi Chris, As I no longer have to go out to work, I have just checked my handbook, and the fuse you want is, as Paul has said, in the passenger footwell and is numbered F12. All you need now is to find that torch you keep somewhere! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Gary. The problem could be simply the need to clean out the fuel system --- there is a product from Wynns that can do the job for under a tenner. I had my car put through the Terraclean service and it did make a real difference to the performance of my S type 2.7D, and worth the £100 or so. Regards, Peter.

Beware This Service Centre - Not all it appears

Welcome to the club, Tracey. You have fond out the hard way, unfortunately, that some dealers are not to be trusted. There is a list of recommended garages in the section Jaguar Owners Lounge and I am sure you will find one that has been used by a member. I have used a Mobile mechanic for 12 years who has treated my cars [Rover Sterling, Jaguar X type, and my current s type]in that time just like his own. You will find members of the club very friendly and helpful people who will assist when they can, Regards, Peter. -
It Looks like it, Ken. But it is worth trying the cheap options first!

Hi John, The accountant who drove the car around was not a good accountant if he didn't wash the car properly himself! I trained as an accountant, and learned how to nit pick! He probably had it hand washed at a supermarket, or had it washed by the dealer's car washers/ I use the two [sometimes three] bucket system with one or two washes in plain luke warm water and then a good quality shampoo. I use Autoglym. I then dry the car with a drying towel from Halfords. Then a wipe over with a microfibre cloth. My car had a paint protection treatment when I got it, so basically that is all it was had till now. It is supposed to last three years, but with the car in my possession for two years and three months, and winter coming on I am going to give is a good wash, and a paint treatment, before waxing. I have an electrical polisher, but tend not to use it on the car preferring to use microfibre cloths, as they get into nooks and crannies easier. But I am long retired and have the time and can pick the weather --- but never on a very hot day! Regards Peter.

He loves the S Type, Garry, but with a wife and 2 children and a penchant for the open air and camping, an estate car is what he wants, He has been looking at things like an X Trail and a Freelander, but I directed him towards a Jaguar Peter.
-
Hi Ken, I have never had an x type estate, so I am guessing a bit. If the pump is working and no water is coming through I would think that a tube could be blocked or twisted somewhere along the line. Peter.

Hi Fabian, and welcome to the club. Ebay and Gumtree are possible sources, and as Garry said, with a reserve. The other method might b to look up a Classic car site on the internet and advertise it there asking for offers. Regards, Peter.

Hi John, and welcome to the club. A good detailer can remove swirls with a lot of elbow grease and various polishes. But having said that, the cost could well be several hundred pounds. It has been carelessly washed prior to you buying it, possibly in one of those supermarket hand wash systems, or indeed at a car wash. Did you buy the car new? If so the dealer should rectify it or stand the cost. If you bought it second hand, then it would be hard to prove who caused the swirls. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Les. Your experience will also in be invaluable. There are a lot of knowledgeable and friendly folk in the club, who will always assist. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Peter. The s type is a great car and is still a head turner over here. Last time I was in the USA I saw one in Phoenix. I assume you have the 3 litre S type. The amber engine light can be one of many things and if you can get hold of an OBD2 code scanner you will be able to identify the issue. Just locate the plug to plug in the scanner, which, in the UK is on the drivers side, at the left, just below knee height. Regards, Peter.

Thanks Pete. I have passed on your information to my son. He is now found two cars of a similar vintage and will follow them up to a visit. He does like my s type! He is now 45 and thinks he is right for a Jaguar now! Best Regards, Peter.

Hi All X type drivers, My younger son's 15 year old Skoda is starting to wear out, and after he has considered just about every other make of car he has at last determined that Jaguars are rather splendid cars. With a proclivity for the open air and camping [plus two a wife and two children] he has come across two rather good models within his budget An X type 2.1 Petrol SE -- 39k on an 04 plate from a reputable dealer with FSH - in Gold or An X type Sport 2.0 litre Diesel estate with 91k on an 06 plate in pale blue. Reputable dealer too. I have advised him which car would be the better one, but he has suggested that a view from the club would be very useful. Adequate space is an issue, but having taken a wife and three children camping in a Ford escort I do not see a problem with either. Some good advice guys, please. Regards, Peter.

Hi Andy, You can get a disc from various companies on the internet, usually between £20 and £30. It is just a simple swop and the disc you will get is the last one made for the S Type and x type. Peter.

Looks good, John.

Hi Paul, I believe that the S Type Mk1 and the early s type Mk 2 have the same tool box. They are not cheap! Regards, Peter.

Hi Brent, The 2.5 litre petrol engine was a very good one, and was the one used in the X type AWD. Jaguar made a big mistake when they discontinued it when the 2.7D came in in 2004, as the sales of the 2.5 litre dropped. It was never exported to the USA and the market here became small. A friend of mine had one from new as his retirement present [i retired in 1999 and had a Rover 825 Sterling as my retirement present] and he never had a problem with it at all. I had an x type 2.5, and managed to get around 38 mph on long runs. Regards, Peter.

Hi Peter, Last Saturday, I went with my son to look for a suitable car, as his 15 year old Skoda is suffering from age, and he needs a new one. We went to quite a few car dealers and it soon became apparent that there were quite a few cowboys around. The information given on cars seems to omit certain things: Fitted with Climate control [they often get to add that is doesn't work] Recently serviced - usually means in the last 12 months. etc But the best one we came across was a charge of £399 for their mechanic to check the car for any faults before sale! Still, you have got a great car and I guess you will solve the problems yourself! Peter.
