  1. Hi Raj, I had code P0402 come up yesterday, [EGR valves] and a good blast on the A 38 to Lichfield cured it. Northfields Jaguar is recommended, --- it all depends on which part of the West Midlands you live. I am in Sutton Coldfield and use a mobile mechanic who I have used for years. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi John and welcome to the club. I can't tell you anything about Jaguars that you don't a;ready know, but I find the S Type a great car and is still a head turner. Regards, Peter
  3. Hi Raj, and welcome to the club. To look for issues I would first check if the cam belt was changed at 105k miles. The 2.7 diesel engine is a very good one, and I guess that your model is prior to having the DPF system fitted. The ZF gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life, but some members had found that changing the gearbox oil at about 75k miles has had come benefit. My car has only done 64k miles I had my car Terracleaned about 15 months ago and it was very beneficial. I also use premium diesel -- a bit dearer but it is a performance engine and I do get a good mpg. I sometimes get a problem with the EGR valves which I cure with a good blast on the A38, or some Wynns Diesel EGR Cleaner. The s type is a great car to drive, so enjoy it! Regards, Peter.
  4. HI Richard, and Welcome to the Club. I would suggest trying the David Manners group, who do supply new parts and are Jaguar Specialists, as well as other classic British makes. What you will find on their site is a great parts catalogue , which will assist you by giving a guide to the price. I picked up a part there in June, and took it to a member in Loughrea, Co.Galway which saved shipping costs! I use an OBD2 scanner which cost me £20 which seems to work OK. You can then look up what the code means. The Computerised system with the Mongoose connection is highly thought up, and I would have bough one but for my laptop being a MacBook Pro for which you have to buy additional software. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Ian, I saw a bit on Wheeler Dealers in which they refurbished the seats on a Bentley using a sort of leather paint. I did look up a supplier who would match the exact leather "paint" which was not all that expensive - about £40 - it just needs a bit of elbow grease. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, John. I am no engineer, but I think someone will be able to help. There is a lot of expertise amongst the members. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club, Robert. I live relatively near to the JLR Plants, and sometimes see a new model "in disguise" -- but not this one. Peter/
  8. Hi Edmund, Try Breakeryard. I have used them on a couple of occasions and they have found the secondhand part I wanted, Peter.
  9. ICI likes you, Chris, and won't have any criticism.
  10. As some other makes too Stan. The VW Beetle used 38 different distributors during its life.
  11. Hi Peter, Try emailing Steve Barnes [ADMIN] steve@jaguarownersclub.com That is the quickest way. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Paul, there does not seem to be a buyers guide as such but if you look at reviews on sites such as the AA, Honest John etc you might find some help. It is also worth looking at Wikipedia. Experiences of members is usually the best. Peter.
  13. Hi Peter, The Leaper does not look as good on the XJ as it does on the s type. To remove it a length of strong twine soaked in white spirit an two buckets of elbow grease should slowly remove it. This seems what they do when they replace a windscreen. Peter.
  14. Hi Chris, Andy has hit the right figure. The S Type is a big heavy car, -- my 2.7 Diesel gets on the mid 40's mpg on a long run, but in town around 30 mpg. My X type with the 2.5 litre petrol could get about 36mpg on a long run, but only 25mpg around town. Peter.
  15. Hi Stewart, and welcome to the club. Garry has mentioned the battery --- it is possible that the battery is starting to fail. The s type needs a good big battery and when it starts to fail electrical bits start to go wrong. Most batteries last about 5 years, and when they start to fail, or are not fully charged the car is clever enough to let less important things start to fail first. On the lack to hot air it could be worth having you climate control regassed. Regards, Peter.
  16. This happened to me about 45 years ago on a A40. Just because plugs are new doesn't mean they are perfect. I still have a feeler gauge somewhere! Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, John. The S Type is a great car to drive. The club is very friendly and members will always try to assist others. Enjoy you car! Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Neil and welcome to the club. They are the wrong size. Jaguar recommend 245/40R18 97Y. There are various good makes of tyre, and although Jaguar recommend Pirelli I found them a bit noisy. Goodyear and Vredestein appear to be the quietest, although Tyres are a personal choice, and some members recommend other makes. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Jason, I have a mobile auto locksmith close to me. I am sure that if you just Google "Auto Locksmith in Lincolnshire" one will pop up. Key fobs and how to fix them is rather a new phenomenon that has arisen in the last ten years as keys have got more an more complicated to ensure better safety. Lets know how you get on, because that information will be good to keep on record for those living in your area. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Jason, and welcome to the club. I think it is possible that you might have to reprogram the key fob -- auto locksmith! But there are those with electrical expertise who might have a short cut, and will advise Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the Club, Andy, and pleased to have you aboard. You will find that the club is a friendly one and will assist whenever possible. When I bought my first Jaguar [X Type SE] I was told that I would never drive another brand. It is true! Meanwhile enjoy you car and the club. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Steve, and welcome to the club. The droning noise could be bearings, but, if so, you would not hear it when the car is stationary. It would seem to be a question of trying to find the location from where the noise comes. Any more guesses, folks? Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Andrew, Are there any messages or does the engine warning light come on? Otherwise, I would continue as normal, but at the same time I would check out the tyres for that stone/nail etc. I would also jack up the car and spin each wheel to see if the noise occurs. Peter.
  24. When I become 30 years younger and a a millionaire that could be an option.
  25. HI Andrew and welcome to the club. Does the noise stay there all the time or is it just while warming up? Is the mileage 1600 or 16,000? Regards, Peter
