I had the Rover 825 Sterling with every conceivable extra, which I kept for nearly 12 years and would still have it had it not been wearing out. I now have an S Type SE with also a multitude of optional extras and it is far superior than the Rover. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Paul. The s type is a great car to drive, but mainly what you need to check out is any underside rust in an a 1999 car. If it has a low mileage for its year and a good service history you should be OK. Others more mechanically expert than myself will be along to advise, as there are a lot of expert and helpful members in the Club. Hi Andy, They have a machine which they connect to the fuel system, and then run the car after connecting certs canisters to the machine. There was a programme on "Wheeler Dealers" where they used one. It does make a difference. Regards, Peter.

Hi Andy, It gives the engine fuel system a good clean, and is particularly good for diesels. Just google the site. A member of this club bought an x type 2.0 Diesel and it was a poor starter when hot. He was told by a main dealer that he would need new glow plugs and injectors and a wallet with £1200 in it. He spent £109 on a terraclean and the problem was solved. Regards, Peter.

Possibly starter motor, Andy. You have done 180k - which is a fair old mileage and still good for a few more. Have you tried the terraclean service, though. I would guess that the engine would like that! Regards, Peter

Good deal Graham. The cost of a big battery for the s type is around £85, and the bother of fitting it is a few shillings. There is a neighbour of mine with an accessory business will always fit a battery if you buy it from him. Peter.

Hi Graham, Some people do recommend you do that. I have one of these universal jump starters/flashing lights/several USB sockets/compressor/and charger socket - It is a bit heavy to keep in the car though. I am still a bit mystified on how to connect the jump start bit while removing the battery leads. There must be a way, though. Peter. P.S. I have just had look at my battery Graham, and with the correct spanners it appears possible to disconnect the battery while the jump start terminals are connected. A Jump start would save you going to a Jaguar Dealer!

Hi Graham, I have had some problems with the electronic Park brake, -- sticking on -- and ` I found that the cure was to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect it. Resetting everything takes just a few minutes, so I am assuming changing the battery is similar. You can connect it up to a power source which avoids having to reset. Regards, Peter.

Hi Graham, I didn't think you needed a technician to fit a new battery. On the s type, the procedure is quite clear and simple. All you need to remember is the radio code and the fact that you have to reset the radio channels and other odds and ends. Is the XK different? Regards, Peter.

Hi Sam, It looks as if you have got a good car. The 2.5 V6 engine is quite a good one. A friend of mine bought one for himself brand new in Red for himself as a retirement present in 1999. He never had a problem with it. It will be less thirsty that the 3.0 litre, and still quite quick. All you need to do nowise keep it nice and shiny and enjoy it! Regards, Peter.
