Hi All, I came across this site yesterday by accident. The EML came on when my wife and were out with two of our grandchildren, so when we got back home I show young Danny how to find out what was wrong using my OBD2 scanner. You can't start boys too soon when cars are involved. Having found the code - P0402 -- I then showed him how to find out what that meant, by using my laptop, and this site came up. Not only did it tell me exactly what was wrong, but the possible causes and also the symptoms. Very useful! Too much exhaust gas not getting through the EGR valves. "How are you going to fix it, Grandad? So I told him that I had a can of EGR cleaner in the boot and that he would have to help me by sitting in the drivers seat and keeping the engine revs at 1200 rpm, while I squirted the contents of the can into the air intake after taking out the air filter. He did the job brilliantly, keeping the revs on 1200rpm perfectly.Really concentrating on what he was doing. He will make a great driver in another 9 years time! Peter.

Just looking at your post re rpm on the 2.7 diesel. The rpm on my car is exactly 2000 at 70 mph which is also the point at which the second turbo come in, I am told. Setting cruise control at 68mph on long journeys I get a much better fuel consumption. Peter.

The battery failing can cause quite a few problems. They seem to last about 5 years.

Hi Malcolm, and welcome to the Club. Is you car the 2.7 diesel engine? If some it is the same engine as the S type. I have not seen that on my car, other when the auxiliary heater comes on at start up. Is there a whiff of diesel at the same time, or does the EML come on? Is there a spill or leak of fluid dripping on to the engine block? Regards, Peter.

I thought it was too, but I have just looked up the list of optional extras that my car has on and it was included on that list. I made a list of the cost of optional extras fitted to my car and came to £10,905, which fitted in to the price of the car in 2007 ---- something like £29k to £51K. If you look at the Jaguar website you are given a topic to "Build your Car', and you tick off what you want. Peter.

Hi Ian, and welcome to the club. I am rather surprised that Colliers look as if they are being very remiss in what they ought to be doing. I have dealt with them for quite a few years and have found them quite good. However at times all dealers are not! It appears to me that they are guessing and that a good at locksmith is needed. I would suggest that you go and see them, tell them that if you can get the problem solved independently that they should settle the bill. I think it means "Racing" as it appeared on the early Jaguar racing cars. What I am positive about is that if you put your foot down in any model the with the R badge on the back you will not get a surprise -- something much more than that! Peter.

Yes, Nick. Front end alignment is the expensive terminology that a main dealer uses. My other guess is that it could be the suspension on that paritcular wheel. It could be worth getting a ruler and measuring the distance and then compare with the other side. But you say that there is minor paint damage on each corner. It would be a good idea to have a look at where the tyre catches and there might gave been a slight movement of the car body that only affects it when the wheel is in full lock. Regards, Peter. P.S. Hi Steve, I have looked around and have found several suppliers but mostly up North - Cheshire, Rochdale etc. A good bet would be to find a good car detailer close to you, and see if they would fit one if you supplied it, unless of course you are able to fit one yourself. Regards, Peter.

Hi Stuart, I don't think that it is a battery problem, as if your battery is failing less essential electrical parts of the car are reminded by the ECU to conserve their energy for the more important things. Thing like the radio, heated rear window,and front electrical heating units, and similar will fail first. It could be a dodgy fuse, which you can easily check out, or a sticky needle. At a guess, I would think that you could get a replacement tachometer, but Bertieboy is the man for great advice on bits like that. Regards, Peter.

Hi Nick, and welcome to the club. I don't think the reason for a tyre rub could be that the Big Cat likes the proper side of the road on which to drive. I would have the easy things done first, such as checking the tracking and then checking whether you have the correct tyre size for the rims. Most garages will be able to do that quite quickly. I think to test an XKR you need a bit of open road with hardly any traffic, as the 4 litre engine will practically take off with a good push on the accelerator My humble s type diesel with the 2.7 V6 turbo with the S button goes like the Chariot of Jehu ---- verily like the wind, so I think that you won't get the best feel of the car you are looking at until you drive it on the open road.
