Hi Andy, I have tried a site called vindecoderz which gives you the specifications of your car when it left the factory. Having said that, it sometimes doesn't work for whatever reason. I think that you can go to a main dealer, or even ring one, and ask what was fitted on your car when it was made. There are powerfold mirrors on the s type, which you operate by pressing the bottom of the large round button on the cluster on the driver's door as in the handbook on page 85. The mirror selector switch should be in the central position for it to work If that doesn't work, I think it is probable that they were not fitted on your model, if it is pre facelift. I must say it did surprise me that there were so many optional extras on Jaguar models that no two cars are the same. I have a 2.7 diesel on a 07 plate, which is the SE specification, but the first owner must have specified quite o lot of extras, as it has a real spare wheel on a matching alloy rim, which is not standard, plus a wood/leather steering wheel and similar other items that differ from similar models. It is nice to find what was fitted when it left the factory. I would add that it is possible to retro fit quite a lot of extras if you have the skills. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Andy. Finding which of the sensors is buzzing means getting down on your knees with the ignition on and engine not switched on, car in reverse, and listening. Why the message centre can't tell you which one I don't know, when it can tell you exactly which bulb in the rear light clusters has failed. Regards, Peter.

My first year in a Jaguar XJ6
Old Peter replied to Winston Smith's topic in New Members Introductions
Welcome to the Club, Gary. Great first post! The Club is about exchanging experiences, which usually help or inspire other Jaguar Owners.. It is also rather good to see someone caring about their car which also shows where Jaguar is coming from rather than where it is going. If I won millions in the lottery I would buy my wife and brand new XE, but I would still keep my S type 2.7D V6 -- a model that is still a head turner, even in Brummagem where the car was built. Keep enjoying you Jaguar. Regards, Peter. -
Removing the DPF is now an automatic MOT failure. I have never had a problem with mine and I do mostly short runs. Peter.

It is different in each car. Jaguar have used trees for years!!

Hi Brian, and welcome to the club. I am afraid I don't know the XF, but setting that apart there could be some owners with the electrical knowledge and expertise. I would guess that the wiring system could be common in all model years, unless Jaguar are getting out of the habit of fitting universal wiring looms. Regards, Peter.

The wood is not plastic, though, Mark. It is either Maple or Burr Walnut in some X Type Daimler versions. But the Sport has an aluminium dash, if that is your preference.

Hi Mark, and welcome to the club. The s type is a nice car and a pleasure to drive. There are plenty around. I would have a look at the Evans Halshaw website -- they are main dealers and partners with Stratstone and will give a warranty. Before I bought my S type I researched the car very thoroughly before I plumped for the 2.7 Diesel which will give somewhat over the 40 mpg on a run. The petrol versions of the S Type all have good engines, although you will not get the same mpg as the diesel, naturally. The diesel has a cam belt instead of a chain, and will need to be replaced at 105k miles, so if it is a higher mileage car you go for check that this job has been done. The auto gearbox is the 6 speed ZF gearbox quite common in many top cars, including Rolls Royce. Look at the sills which can get some rust [under the plastic covers] and check for water ingress in the boot, which is easily remedied. Other owners will give you some opinions, but I have had mine for over two years without problems. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Andy. That sounds like a good buy, and Tom has given you a very good tip, I would also suggest you write down any foibles that you think are suspicious as your car is under warranty. Regards Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.

Hi Mark, There is a list of recommended independent garages on the Forum "Jaguar owners lounge". I do believe there was one in Manchester, which I believe is close to the City of Salford. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Les. I knew Shevington in the fifties --- but I have not been there for years since I left Lancashire for work reasons. I hope you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, David. A loose wire or a fuse is a possibility, but not having that facility in my car I could not tell you where it is. Someone will know. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Sid, I am not an engineer, but I do believe that drivers of performance cars, should not move too far away from essential parts of the design of their car as it left the factory. The specification for the x type AWD, which I checked up on when I had one, was 16" and 17" wheels, although I was reliable informed that 18" wheels would fit perfectly well. I am also reliably informed that you get a more comfortable ride on 16" wheels rather than 18" wheels. My S type 2.7D, which is a much heavier car that the x type AWD petrol, has 18" wheels which is the mid point between the wheels specified by Jaguar of 17" 18" and 19" wheels. With that in mind, I think that 17" wheels are ideal for the AWD x type. My Rover Sterling 2.5 litre automatic was a slightly lighter car than the x type ran on 15" wheels and fave a very comfortable ride over the 11 years I had it. But it was not a performance car, and rather good for passengers. I would be inclined to keep the 16" wheels on through the winter and see how they perform on the road on a car that holds the road extremely well. Trying something out is often a bit better than investing in something that might not work as well. Regards, Peter.

Hi Timothy and welcome to the club. This is indeed a question that many have asked. I have an advert in front of me for a vehicle key programming specialist based in Birmingham, but also covering the West Midlands. I think they are a mobile service. www.24hrkeyassist.co.uk Also Mobile: 07775 88 88 19 ------- or 0121 288 1031 They say that they are cheaper than main dealers, which is not too difficult. If you use them, please let us know how good they are. Regards, Peter.
-
Welcome to the Club, Sid, The X type is a great car to drive, and the the bigger wheels look great on it, but more expensive when you come to put tyres on them. I had 17" wheels on my X type and they could be the best bet on the AWD model. Regards, Peter

Brilliant, Phillip. I think the XE is the better option for people to look at, assume of us pensioners have to be a bit realistic. Of course SWMBO may change my mind if we win the lottery! Regards, Peter. PS. A photo of each member who wishes could easily be done, too. -
Hi Dave, DPF should have regenerated with a long run at a good speed. A cheap possibility is using a DPF cleaner --- Wynns do one for about £6, and there are other kits available. Worth a try, and if it doesn't work then have it cleaned in a garage. Regards, Peter.
-
That is one job I will never have -- the 2007 S type does not have front fog lamps. Petrer.
-
I am thinking that it could be made of an amalgam using an element of mild steel, which is cheap and plentiful, plus several other metals amenable to casting including brass , and then chrome electroplated. The Chinese are rather good at that. Mine has some weight, but probably not as heavy as those with a screw fitting. Peter.
-
That could be it, Stan. The right amount of air is a big factor. Peter.

Hi Kaushal, and welcome to the Club. There is a topic on Independent garages in the Jaguar owners Forum on this site, and looking through it might give you a recommended garage close to your location. It could be that the engine needs a bit of a clean inside and I would suggest that you think about also giving it a Terraclean service. Regards, Peter.

New XF owner in Peterborough
Old Peter replied to sailorboysteve's topic in New Members Introductions
Good Morning Steve, and welcome to the Club. The XF was the replacement of for the S Type and the 2.7 Diesel engine is the same as in my S Type, and is a very good performer. The club members averred helpful and I hope you enjoy your car as well as theClub. Regards, Peter. -
The road works around Hinckley are abominable, and many motorists, including me, sometimes flee the jams on the roadworks on the M1/M6/M42 to get into more jams on the A5. I was round there a couple of weeks ago and the jam around the A14/M1 junction had me somewhat dischuffed, especially hone I though about getting back home. Through the lanes on the way home was much nicer, but didn't do a lot for the mpg. Peter.

Traffic jams --- you can easlly get 0 mpg at times.
