  1. Hi David and welcome to the club. Mike has given you a well recommended garage, and you can't beat a member's recommendation ! Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi John, and welcome to the Club. I will have to come to live in Lincolnshire ---- my insurance cost £600 fully comp. Saga quoted £890. There is a very high premium for cities. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club. We have similar cars down to the year! I am not an engineer, but I had a similar problem in a Rover some years ago. The cause was a damaged tyre and the vibration came and went. It could be worth checking the tyres out, particularly the tront tyres. Also check that there is no play in the steering. The other cause of vibration could be something loose, possible the exhaust. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Jim. The Grace, Space and Pace as said by Sir William Lyons about the Mk 2 Jaguar applies to the whole Marque, nowadays. Even my humble S Type 2.7 D also can show a turn of pace ---- as well as the Grace and Space. Sadly, I am now too old to think of a XFR! Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Paul, There is one in Northfield that has been well recommended. It is on the list in the Jaguar owners Lounge, but I can't think of its name at the moment. Regards, Peter
  6. Ingenious, Andy.
  7. One for the fuel system and another process for the EGR valves and exhaust system, I think, Paul.
  8. The Tickled Trout --- I can tell you a story or two about that great place!!
  9. That's a thought, Paul.
  10. I am just waiting for the price to come down! I'm from Lancashire!!!
  11. My car has only done 62k miles, and the engine was replaced while in the ownership of Stratsone at 21k. I am basically giviing the EGR valves a a bit of preventive maintenance.
  12. I have a very nervous reaction when I pass a main dealers ---- my wallet goes into the shivers. I would try the Wynns EGR cleaner first! Peter.
  13. Probably will, John. Just have a look and you can see them at either side of the V6 engine. Peter.
  14. Hi Russ, Tyres as recommended by Jaguar in the s type handbook are: 245/40R 18 97Y. Tyres for the S Type R are different. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Andy, It might be worth having a look at the parts catalogue from the David Manners Group which you can get online free. Regards, and good luck. Peter.
  16. Good advice from Mark. I thought about getting my bulbs changed all round but a bit too expensive and appeared to be far too tricky. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi John, and Welcome to the club. Getting the car terra cleaned is a good first step. and it has showed a difference. The best I have had from my 2.7D is 53 mpg going from here to Sheffield on the M1 with a steady 50 mph due to a long spell of speed restrictions because of road works. A long trip usually gets me sarong 46 mpg and doing a fair complement of short runs on a tank full of Shell v-power I get around 38 mpg. Harvey has mentioned the EGR valves and they can a bit sticky. There is a terra cleaner process which will deal with the EGR valves but it costs over £200. Wynns have a product which you can get for under a tenner at Halfords call EGR Cleaner for diesels. It is easy to use and does the job. They also sell an additive which can be used in conjuction once every 3000 miles called Diesel Engine Cleaner. It is worth doing the above. I also use best quality diesel rather that supermarket fuel and do notice the difference. One question I would ask is if the cam belt has been changed as that job should be done ay 105k. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.
  18. Hi Richard, You had a terrible and expensive experience, and I can understand how you feel. I have been luck with my car - no problems at all. There is difference between an foreman's friend and a Friday car. I hope you next car is a good one. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Roland, and welcome to the club. There is a list of recommended Independent Jaguar specialist in the Jaguar Owners Lounge on this site. I do know that there is a garage near Preston which is well thought of, but I can think of its name offhand. Maybe giving your car a Terraclean service could solve the problem. I do know that the best black pudding in the World is made in Bury, and if they can do that they can fix Jaguars, Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.
  20. Welcome to the Club, Eric. There are several members who have retro fitted various things to s types including CD changers and who are also quite expert in the Audio area. I believe changing the unit is not that difficult. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Jane, I love the XK series, but I know very little about them, other than a lady I sometimes see in the local supermarket has had one from new and it still looks great after 20 years regular use. My s type [Morgana] is a great car and I just love driving it. There are a few XKR owners who will give you some assistance. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Phil, When the battery has been disconnected you will need to reset. Fully close the window and hold the switch in the closed position for two seconds and then release. Wait for two seconds and do not open the window. Again select the same window to close, holding the switch for a further two seconds. Check to confirm the operation by opening the window and then use the one touch operation to come the window. Repeat the operation for all the other windows. Regards, Peter.
  23. Most frequently problems with shop assistants goes down to training or lack of it. At the same time you do get some wonderful moments. Two I have had in the past come quickly to mind; "I am going to ask a very impertinent question" and from the same person "We need to sit down and fornicate an agreement". But the one which cause the most laughter, and in court at that was a Barrister, QC no less asking the same question 4 times, with the same answer being given in one word "No". He then says "Forgive me for being dim" and before he could continue he got the obvious answer "I do, I do forgive you" Laughter in court!! Peter.
  24. Well done, Stan. See you at Gaydon, All the best, Pter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, David. The XJ is a very nice car. Look at mileage, service history and how clean it is both outside and inside. Then just drive it gracefully, knowing that if you put your foot down there is bags of power. Regards, Peter.
