I had a 2005 X type SE, and it did not have what we called a sunroof. To my knowledge they were not standard. My X type did have 17" rims, but I did not think they were standard, - I thought that the 16" was the norm. Peter.

Hi Fraser, and welcome to the Club. Is is the Radio Code you are looking for? If so either ask the dealer from whom you bought the car or take your VIN number to a Jaguar dealer and ask for the code. There are propably other ways of getting the number too. Regards, Peter.

Hi Russ, Jim has been very helpful --- a good garage which knows about Jaguars is always useful! There is one other question I would ask. You said that your mum's car hade done 120,000 miles -- Has the cam belt been changed? It should be done at 105,000 miles or 10 years. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Russell, What engine does your Mum's s type have? Diesel or petrol. Has the car had regular services? Did the garage connect an OBD2 code reader to see where the problem is? Regards, Peter.

Hi Dougal, and welcome to the club. I changed all my tyres to Pirellis last autumn, as my previous tyres were showing wear in the tread with only 8000 miles use. The new tyres were not quite as quiet but certainly hold the road better. regards, Peter.

Services can be different across the country. I am quite happy with my mobile mechanic! Peter.

HI Gary and welcome to the club. I had a 2.5 All wheel drive x type and I really enjoyed it. It was a manual gearbox and the petrol engine was a little thirsty -- a long run would give you about 34 mpg at best. IIf you want something less thirsty I would agree with Tom. I now have an s type with the 2.7 D engine which gives around 45mpg and never had a problem with the DPF - premium fuel and the correct oil is correct. Regards, Peter.

Hi Alan, I had heard about the two blocks from my mechanic -- I hope I don't have to do the handbrake fault again, though. The battery on the s type usually lasts about 5 years. I had to ge a new one in March this year when the existed battery was only 3 years ad 4 months old. I think that battery was not as good as the Bosch that is now on! Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Alan, I have had this a few times and it always occurs when the battery is low. Solution. 1. Disconnect the battery and keep your ignition key in your pocket and make sure you have the radio code. 2. Wait for about 15 seconds and then connect the battery. 3. The alarm will go off when you switch on the ignition. Take the alarm off. 4. You will be given instruction on the dashboard. 5. Apply both hand a foot brake at the same time. 6. Done. You will have to reset the radio, the windows, the volume et. It saves calling out the garage. Regards, Peter.

Hi Rob, With reference to your Mecedes I am just offering a guess, as I not a mechanic. It could be an ignition coil. I did have that experience with a Rover Sterling. If you have access to an OBD2 code reader it could help. Regards, Peter.

Hhi Rob, I would recommend a Ctek which would cost about £65. They connect to your battery directly. I have a socket fitted just outside my garage, and connect it every 6 days if my car has been static -- these days don't see pensioners driving long distances! Regards, Peter.

Good morning Brian, I must admit that I thought that you did not have cruise control that I found curious. My S Type has a plethora of optional extras and even after 7 years I am still coming across them and how they work. I will start investigating Adaptive cruise control now. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Brian, It's absence surprises me. I have used cruise control since the year 2000 and found it very useful, although there are times when I prefer to drive the car. You are unable to use cruise control when you are driving in built up areas, and driving your car is safer when there is a lot of heavy traffic and you are changing lanes on busy motorways. The Cruise control is on the right side of the steering wheel and very easy to operate. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Stuart. I have never bought a new car -- company cars for 29 years -- and one of the new cars I had supplied me with a foot bath every time it rained. It went back to Ford about 20 times in 6 months and they never managed to find the reason. With a bit luck I found that the factory had forgotten to put in a grommet inside the wheel arch. I invested in a grommet myself and no more footbaths. Until --- A Morris Ital [I whisper]. Water poured in due to a gap in the bonnet, repaired with Plasticine. You could not blame that for the engine blowing up, though. The moral of the story is never buy a new car. Regards, Peter.

Buy an i Pace. The SUV i Pace was the 2019 car of the year, and you can get one for £65,000. Problem solved. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Tray. Tom has mentioned the Ctek charger which I also have. My s type is not doing much work on the road at the moment due to the Coronairus and goes on to the charger every 6 days or so. I had a electric point fitted just outside my garage which cost about £60. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Neil. I guess you are enjoying your s type. Chatting about such a brilliant car is all enjoyable. Regards, Peter.

Hi Krsto, I had a night out many years ago with the man of the house in which I was staying. Many bottles of Guinness and quite a few glasses of a rather strong "whiskey". I asked if it was real or did you make it yourself, and the man said "Tis only real here is if you do make it yourself. My maternal Grandfather [Peter Coyne] never used to drink, but apparently before he got married he was certainly one of the boys. Granny Coyne did not agree with the whiskey, even though she knew what Tullamore Dew was! Regards, Peter P.S. And more power to his elbow!

Welcome to the club, Victoria. The X type is a very sound car. My first Jaguar was an X type 2.5 litre AWD which I enjoyed. I wanted a Jaguar when I was in my 20's when seeing a friend restore a Jaguar Mk I. I got my X type when I was in my 70's! Just keep you Jaguar looked after, do all the checks regularly and then just enjoy. The club is a friendly one and you will get all the assistance you need. Regards, Peter.

Hi Krsto, When my car was stolen my wife [ a wonderful woman] said "we will change a disaster into an opportunity" and two weeks later I had my s type which has visited the Auld Country, including Drogheda where her grandparents came from, Regards, Peter, PS. My grandparents came from Tullamore and Co Mayo.
-
Welcome to the club, Krsto. I had an x type and thoroughly enjoyed it. The three crooks who stole it didn't as they got caught and were given the opportunity to stay in a free hotel known as a prison for 8 years! There is always something to learn about Jaguars -- they are very well equipped. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Knut, Nice to see you back. I must admit that I rarely use my s type in snow. Luckily, we live in an area with plenty of shops! Regards, Peter. PS. And that is Norway in May! -- We still love the country and the people.

Welcome to the club, Chris. I assume you have an automatic gearbox with 5 speeds. Can you try using the manual gear change and see if it will go to 4th and 5th gears. It is just a gamble! I had exactly the opposite problem to you. I was using the manual gear change too much, going into 3rd gear when going downhill. I had to stay in automatic to get it working properly again. Regards, Peter.

Join the Club, Brian, You would guess that I use premium fuel for the 2.7litre Diesel engine on my S type which I have had for just over 7 years. I used ordinary fuel for about a year and found that I was having to clean the EGR valves quite frequently. I was told by a mechanic that premium fuel would assist both the EGR Valves and the DPF to be clean, as well as giving me a slightly better mpg. The best mpg I have had was 50.2 mpg which I got when driving for Sutton Coldfield to Sheffield using the A38 and the M1, with the latter having a 50 mph speed limit due to road works. The return journey using the M1 and the M42 was 46.4 mpg, [I did put the result into my Diary]. It did seem to work and the quietness of the engine and the smoothness of the drive has been great, so it could be the fuel, which is why I recommend it. Regards, Peter.
