  1. Hi Chris, My S type is not clever enough to tell me about the battery. But as it tells you to start the car I guess that it means the car battery which is crying out for some power. I would be inclined to charge the battery or get it checked. Regards, Peter
  2. Hi Tom, Mark is great for X Type parts, Have a chat with him. Regards Peter.
  3. Hi Chris, I have got a local advert for a key supplier and programmer who is mobile and will come to your house and says the job will be done at a fraction of the cost of main dealer. Check him out on this number. 0121 288 1031 or 07775 88 88 19. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Martin, The first job is to find out it the car is still taxed. Just try googling "Car Road Tax" and go from there. I don't know what to do after that but it it is still on the road that will be a start. Regards, Peter.
  5. I get the bloke round the corner to fit the wiper blades! Brilliant,
  6. Hi Chris and welcome to the club. Your car certainly looks really good. I will be looking for a good detailer when the three years after a good paint protection was put on my s type runs out in June 2016. Pity they arrant a bit nearer, as I do like recommendation from those who have the experience of using them. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Paul, I can't check at the moment as the boot is filled with cardboard for the dumpit. But I do remember that it said in the instructions to use it in conjuction with the Wynns EGR cleaner so it must be. Peter.
  8. Hi Paul, I think you have sorted it. Some Ford engines also went into Mazda cars too. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Paul, The engines in the Mondeo 2.0d and the Jaguar X Type 2.0d are the same -- known as the Duratorq. And as Jaguar was owned by Ford at the time, I would guess that the other ancillary parts are the same. Regards, Peter.
  10. Having had a look at the engine layouts, the petrol engines are quite different from the diesel, Phil. Peter.
  11. Hi Paul, There is also some Diesel Engine Cleaner that works for under a tenner. Into your fuel tank every 3000 miles and it does a good job. I did it before I went to Ireland, and with that and a good service the engine has been running very well. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Dean, Yes, that's the one. There are members who have travelled a long way to get problems solved. Good Luck, Dean. Regards, Peter.
  13. Lucky you, Kim. If the Valves do need replacing, it is a DIY job for someone who knows his way round an engine. A quick glance at either side of the V6 and you will see them. Regards. Peter. Unlike the X Type, the valves cannot be blanked off
  14. Hi Paul, The Air filter is at the front right in the engine bay. Two clips retain the cover. Unclip and just lift the cover and slide out the filter. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Kim, The S type 2.7 Diesel has two EGR valves which can sometimes get sticky and won't open. They are at either side of the V6 and are a bit tricky to get at. To clear them out a good blast with the s button pressed sometimes works, but if it doesn't, get a can of Wynns EGR cleaner and follow the instructions which basically is to run the engine when at its normal operating temperature, take out the air filter on the right hand side of the engine at the front and spray down the air intake with revs at about 1200rmp. Use the whole can. You will need another person to keep the rpm steady at 1200 rpm and not exceeding 1500 rpm. I keep a can in the boot! They only cost about £9.50 and Halfords stock them. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Kim, Is there any code coming up? An OBD reader will give you the code which should tell you the problem. Very frequently the restricted performance is telling you that something electrical is not getting its own way. Let us know what it is when you find out. Information is always useful. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Phil, To reset the handbrake after disconnecting the battery, you must also know the radio code. When you have reconnected the battery the alarm will come on and you have to press on the footbrake after switching off the alarm. You don't always have to reset the windows but you always have to reset the radio. Peter.
  18. It could be, Phil. The s type needs a good battery to work all the electrical bits, and when it is failing it starts to do funny things . I would give it a charge and then see if it holds it. A battery should last about 5 years. Peter.
  19. I am inclined to agree with Andy on the size of wheels, and a good look at what options are available to be put on the model before it leaves the factory is useful. As far as I can gather, the options for the S Type were 17", 18" and 19" wheels with slightly different speed ratings. Staying within the guidelines on sizes to me is a must. The type of tyre is a personal choice as long last it meets the guidelines. I used to know a senior salesman for a tyre supplier to Vauxhall when I lived in North Wales, and he used spend quite some time discussing tyre requirements with the design team at Ellesmere port, and some of those requirements led to changes/improvements in manufacture. Peter.
  20. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I was told that when I got my first Jaguar I would never buy another make. It is true. My S type, my second Jaguar, is a diesel, and also great to drive. Enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Russ, My wheels are the same size as yours. There was a recent survey on tyres which looked at things like the EU requirements re noise, Roadholding, and stopping in the wet which we get a lot of in the UK. I haven't got the full list but Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric came out top, with Vredestein a close second. I changed by front pair from the Pirellis to Goodyear using Halfords - which gave me the best price and a fiver each cheaper than Vredestein, for £250. They are very good and quieter than Pirellis. Peter.
  22. Hi Harv, If you look above the rear view mirror and just after the reading lights close to the Ambience light you will se a button with P on it. Press that and a red led light comes on and when that light is on the sensors are off. Peter.
  23. What is it like on a 2.5 V6 petrol, Phil? I only know the 2.7 Diesel. Peter.
  24. Got Phil and I the wrong way round, Russ. Is your car a Petrol 2.5 or 3.0 litre? Peter.
  25. I think the photographs are quasi concept photos, Peter. I have had look at all the statistics surrounding the s type and the figures for each of the various models produced, and there is no mention of variants. However, a good coach builder could produce one! Peter.
