Hi Phil, The petrol engine must be very different. So easy on the diesel. Peter.
-
Hi Phil, Was there a change in design? The air filter on my 2.7 Diesel 07 plate can be changed in under two minutes and that is including unwrapping the box it comes in. Regards, Peter.

HI Dave, There is a button [P] on the top console. Press it in when you are either in Drive or Reverse and a red light will come on indicating that the sensors are switched off, I could not find it in the book either but out of curiosity I pressed it and found out what it was for. Peter.

Transmission Problem: S-type 2003 2.5l petrol engine
Old Peter replied to joeline's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Joe, There is a company is Glasgow who are very helpful and have supported the Club on quite a few occasions. Mackie Automatic Transmissions will respond to a telephone call [0141 778 4545] and give some expert advice. It is worth having a look at their website. -- Just google their name. Regards, Peter. -
Welcome to the Club, Mark. A friend of mine had a similar model and he thought it was wonderful, although doing mostly short journeys round the city he got very friendly with the staff at his local petrol station! Enjoy the experience. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club. Kim. The s type is a great car, and the 2.7 litre Diesel is a very good engine if you treat it well. There are a couple of things to remember. The V6 has two EGR valves than can get a bit dirty, and the cheap way to clean them is a good blast occasionally. The next cheapest is a can of Wynns EGR Cleaner [Diesel] A terraclean service also is beneficial and the cost of around £120 --- check it out on the Internet. I use Shell v power, which has improved mpg and performance. Now just enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Bill. Have you looked at the tube connections etc for kinks, and the jets to see if they are blocked? That could have be the first option. Regards Peter.

Hi Peter, Welcome to the club. There about a third of a million S Types built with about half of them going to the export market. I don't think that there were any estate versions built at all. A friend of mine was extremely enamoured of the S Type and bemoaned the fact that he had to buy a BMW Estate to take him and family to France where they have a house. He felt that the S Type was the next best car after the E Type. I have heard that someone saw a convertible s type in the USA, but I think if must have been an after market conversion. Regards, Peter.

Hi Tom and welcome to the club. It might well be that you have to source the parts from the UK and pay the shipping cost. The David Manners Group are very good and supply genuine Jaguar Parts. I have used them several times, as they are quite close to where I live. They do ship worldwide. SNG Barrett have also been recommended by other members. You will also get the part number from their catalogue, and then compare it with Ford. Some of the parts are interchangeable but as I am not an engineer I con't tell you exactly which Regards, Peter.

Hi Andy, Other than finding out that it is a 3.0 litre petrol and is green, and is taxed and has an MOT both into 2016, I could not find out anything else. I will keep a note of the number . Peter

What retro-fits / modifications have you done.
Old Peter replied to Raistlin's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
Welcome to the club, Baz. It is always bad when something is not advertised honestly. Maybe a local member could have given the car a check over --- Lancashire people are very helpful! Paul is an expert on retrofits. He also has a wiring diagram. Have you got the owners handbook? It does give some information on the vagaries of the s type. Regards, Peter. -
I think all climate control systems must be similar and it is just the location of the mechanical bits in the s type that lets you hear it. I had a Rover with all the bells and whistles and the Climate Control system was located near the CC radiator and you could hear it when you opened the bonnet when you had just stopped. Peter.
-
Not a bad thought, Harvey. It might be worth switching off the sensors to see if the noise goes away. Peter.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the club. I have never had that problem. Where dose the buzz come from and is the radio on? Is there any warning notification? As you say, there is nothing in the book. Hopefully, we will be able to sort it out. Regards, Peter.
-
Andy is quite right, Dennis. I think it is called "Ambience Lighting". Peter.
-
Hi Dennis, This is a common occurrence in the S Type, and is something to do with the climate control when you switch off the engine. I am not an engineer, but I am guessing that something is resetting itself. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dean, I have had vibration before on a Rover Sterling, but I found it was caused through a tyre being badly potholed. My guess is that there could be something loose underneath the car that is jiggled during acceleration. Other than that I can only think of an exhaust problem. There is a very good Independent Jaguar specialist in Doncaster that is well recommended by members who have been there who could spot the problem. Regards, Peter.

Jaguar Owners Club West Midlands meet 19th September.
Old Peter replied to Raistlin's topic in England Events
Just a quick reminder --- Only two months to the meet in Gaydon. And don't forget that members from anywhere in the country will be welcomed. Get this date in your diary. 19th September 2015. Peter. -
I have just come back from Ireland. Before I went I checked my policy and found out that I was insured for driving abroad but only for third party, which is the basic insurance required in Europe. I chose to upgrade my policy for 10 days at the cost of £23. I also upgraded my breakdown cover which cost £40. I had been abroad before when I had company cars and knew I had to tell my employer before I went so that my cover could be upgraded. Nigel has given members some rather good information. Peter.

Never thought of using T Cut. I will try it!

Hi Dave, Very interesting post! I bought my S Type from Stratsone Solihull just over two years ago. I just had a three months warranty and I insisted on an MOT being done even thought there were 9 months left on the old one. A couple of weeks before the warranty ran out I took the car in with a list of all the niggles I had had, and they gave the car a "Heath Check". This threw up several items that needed seeing to: Oil in the coolant An amber on one tyre A brake disc that needed early replacement [Why it wasn't done or given an advisory at its MOT I don't know] An oil change advised [why that had not been done before I bought the carI don't know either.] I got my mobile mechanism to change the oil and filter, and check the other items. There was no oil in the coolant, the tyres were all OK and the tread per wheel .was better than had been written down on the health check. The brake discs were perfectly OK and have since passed two MOT without any advisories. It leads me to believe that Stratstone are doing a little twitch to the requirements of a "health Check" with the intention of me saying that they had better get the job done . Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, I have a similar problem. I have tried Solvol Autosol without success. My only solution would be paint them the colour of your car :D Peter.
-
Hi Stan, I had to get some electrical bits for my Rover from a scrapyard, and they let me check them out before paying for them. You will be able to have a good look at them before getting them fitted. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Michael, and Welcome to the Club. It sounds a bit like the plugs, or the fuel system. My s type is a diesel and I gave it a terraclean service and it ran much nicer. There is the same service for the petrol engine which might be worth looking into. Regards, Peter.

Hi Greg, and welcome to the Club. Try the David Manners Group who supply genuine Jaguar Parts, and also SNG Barrett. The XK8 is a classic car, and there are a lot of owners [comparatively] whose desire is to keep them on the road. Regards, Peter.
