Hi William, and welcome to the club. I have had no problems with the Sat Nav on my S Type, although a previous Sat Nav suggested I fly over a small stream into a field. These things can happen, and I would like to hear more. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, Narrow escape. It was one of those times that speed can get you out of trouble and you were lucky to have plenty of great acceleration. Regards, Peter.

Trevor is now an AMG owner after having problems with both a Jaguar Main Dealer and Jaguar Customer service. As one of the old guys on here, Charlie, remember that some of us haven't got all that much to take with them! Regards, Peter.

Hi Adil, Kenny has given you some good tips about the XKR. I can give you some about the West Midlands, and much depends on your location. There is a well recommended Independent Jaguar Specialist in Northfield, who some members who have used the garage give very good reports. I have used a mobile mechanic for 13 years who works mostly around the North Birmingham area, as he lives in the Erdington/Castle Vale area. There are also some quite good parts suppliers in the area whom I have used, and online as Kenny has said. I have used the David Manners Group in Halesowen, from whom you can order parts and pick them them up yourself, There is also a JOC meet on the 19th Sept at the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon which could be of interest to you. Regards Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Sam. There is a facility to send photos, via "More Reply Options" --- but I am having trouble with that myself! Regards, Peter.

What retro-fits / modifications have you done.

Hi Paul, I fitted a spot and a matching fog lamp, plus a maroon fairing to one of my motor bikes in the sixties, and every time I got behind a car driver they slowed down, mistaking me for a traffic policeman --- In Lancashire the Police drove maroon Triumph Speed Twins! I fitted a heated rear window on to a Triumph Herald, radios on to various cars, plus a full set of instrumentation on to a Ford Escort when various things failed. Company cars for almost 30 years, when I could only use main dealers, got me away from doing anything! Regards, Peter. -
Hi Paul, and Welcome to the club. It depends on you location to find a convenient Car Trimmer, but Preston Car Trim is worth looking st. I can find another one or two that I have heard of near Wigan. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.

Hi Ron, It will still be there. You will just have to scroll back. To get all the codes downloaded you will need a lot of paper and ink. I find it best just to look up the one you need. Regards, Peter

Good Morning, Julie, As long as you use the best engine oil as recommended and have it changed once a year you engine should have no problems. I also use Shell V Power, which keeps the engine clean, but not as important in a petrol engine as in a diesel as mine is. Regards, Peter.

Hi Tony, You can also buy genuine Jaguar parts from the David Manners Group either online or from their premises in Halesowen if you happen to be in the area. Regards, Peter.

The type of fuel, while being a personal choice, often comes down to the suitability of that fuel for the engine in your car. Some drivers use supermarket fuel and add some well known additives and some, like myself, find that I do get a better mpg from Shell v power. The nearest supermarket selling fuel is a 5 miles round trip, and there is a Shell Petrol Station 400 yards away. And it is the cheapest in the area, rivalling the supermarkets in price, only a penny a litre cheaper. The engine in the X Type 2.0 litre diesel is a well tested Ford engine and does not have a DPF as its emissions met the Euro 4 criteria. It will happily run on supermarket fuel. The engine in the S Type 2.7 diesel [also in the XJ and the early XF] is an engine developed by Ford and Peugeot and used from 2004 onwards with the later engine having two EGR valves plus a Diesel Particulate Filter, plus twin turbochargers. This engine does perform better with premium fuel. I used Sainsburys Diesel for about 6 months and was quite pleased with mid 30's mpg. The first time I used Shell V Power after advice from a mechanic was on a trip to Sheffield, mostly on a Motorway with roadworks and a 50 mph restriction. I got 53 mpg! On the return Journey I I went on slightly different route with less restrictions and mostly at 70 mph, and the average for the round trip was 48mpg. Currently the price at the local petrol station is 117.9 p a litre [petrol 116.9] and v power between 6 & 8 p a litre dearer. Peter.

Hi Julie, I have a diesel S type, and do not expect the engine to heat up very quickly, although when it does it sits exactly halfway. On the 1st July - that very hot Wednesday - I went down to Welwyn, 120 miles each way, and coming back I average about 55 mph and the needle never moved. As normal when I got home I let the engine run for a minute while the turbos stopped spinning. The fan does stay on a little while, but it used to do the same on my Rover irrespective of distance. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, Thee are several possibilities, but not being an engineer I can't point you to the immediate one. But if you open the bonnet and get someone else to start the engine you could get a clue. The engine bay is quite insulated from the cabin and a visual inspection could help. Are there any fault codes showing? Regards, Peter

Welcome to the club, Gordon. You will enjoy your Jaguar and the 3.0 litre Diesel is a very good engine and surprisingly economical. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Jon. It is rather nice to have an expert in the club. Being a Northerner, I am not too au fait with Southern Geography, but there are always two meets a year in Brighton. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, Is there is leak from somewhere? Run the engine and try to see/smell the location. Jaguar recommend that you should always have the A/C on Auto, so I guess there could be a connection. Regards Peter.

Hi Robert, Dealers have been offering various deals of late. When I got my s type I got a 3 month warranty from Stratstone in Solihull. A year later they wanted to sell me a second hand XF with a two year warranty, and a few months ago they were offering a 3 year warranty on "selected" cars. You could find the best deal somewhere that will vary from some main dealers. Having said that, my car has been brilliant with not a problem. Peter.
-
Hi Richard, There must be sone small print somewhere. Pity. Peter.

Hi Robert, I have never done the fitting of sensors but I have heard that it is not difficult. It you look at the David Manners Group website you might be able to find the part number of the sensor to fit your car. Then you can go to eBay! Regards, Peter.

I don' t have favourite locations but rather Previous locations, Byron.

Hi Byron, and Welcome to the club. That system isn't there on the S Type, but someone with an XF or an newer XJ will be able to tell you. Regards, Peter.

Unfortunately so, Stan. My 1999 Rover Sterling with all the bells and whistles, which I bought a few months after new, had to go when 12 years old as it needed a full respray, some dents ironing out, and a bit on interior wear sorting our and with 122k on the clock. The cost would have been more that the car was worth. On the bright side, there are quite a few s types in good condition around! Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Stan, Have you tried the David Manners group? They can get most things. Get the part number if you can. Peter.

Hi Richard, Suggest to the windscreen company who fitted the windscreen that the part when fitted did not meet the requirements laid down by the Sale of Goods Act -- that it was not fit for purpose for which it was sold. Also tell them that should the matter be put to the small claims court It would be highly likely that a Judge would find in your favour as you have proof that it item in question was legally sold to you with a guarantee, irrespective of whose name was on the receipt. Tell them that a Judge would look at the fact that the item was fitted to the car and not to the owner of the car. It might work. Regards, Peter.

The assistance that club members can give by just sharing experiences is becoming more and more necessary as nowadays cars are becoming more complicated, and main dealers are charging far more than many members can afford. There is the idea that if a member has seen a car advertised on the internet or otherwise, he or she could ask a local member to have a look at the car to see if it is as advertised. The same concept can be used for locating spares which could avoid shipping costs. Very often the supplier will charge £10 to send something that would cost nothing if picked up rom the supplier and passed on the the member either by post or personally, if the member happened to be in the area. Recently a member in the West of Ireland need a part for his immaculate X Type. Fairly impossible to find in Ireland. A member in England picked up the part locally, and enjoyed a coffee with the member in Ireland on his way to his holiday location, when passing on the part, saving the cost of shipping. Coincidence can be very useful. Just a thought!
