  1. Professional driver, David!
  2. Hi David, I have not come across this issue, as generally I am a gentle braker. But hard braking needs a good servo, and if there are no leaks I guess you will be looking in the right place to solve the problem. Regards, Peter,
  3. Hi Hasu, and welcome to the club. Jaguar say that your AC should always be left on auto. I find that it takes a little time to get the operation to cold, but last Wednesday with the temperature around 28 celsius in London, I was down there and it kept me nice and cool all day. Does your car have the touchscreen, and is it a petrol or diesel, as that can make a difference? Also have you got the owner's Manual? If you haven't it is available to download just by googling S type Jaguar - Owner's Manual There is a Jaguar Owners Club meet at Gaydon on the 19th September and there will be quite a few s type owners there. Let us know how it you get on. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Pop and welcome to the club, Philip has given some very good pointers to some of the technical things that confuse me, I agree with him about the wheels. I had 17" wheels on my x type and they look just right and give a comfortable ride --- my S Type has 18" wheels which I think are about right too for the car. My car is a 2.7Diesel which has two EGR valves which sometimes get a bit sticky and when the amber warning light comes on it is usually code P0402 which tells me that the valves have stayed closed and the ECU is going spare trying to open it. Often a good blast cures it, but if not a can of Wynns Diesel EGR cleaner will do the job - at about £8 a can. If you do a good mileage you should have no problem with the DPF. When it is full it needs regenerating and a simple run of about 20 minutes at 50 mph after the engine has reached the normal running temperature will complete the regeneration. Having said that, I do a lot of short runs and a longer one once a month and it has never been a problem -- no warning at all. The x type is rather a good car, and the Sovereign is well kitted out. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Adrian, My first car was a Triumph Herald and one of my last motorbikes was a Triumph T100. Nowadays, as a pensioner, I just have one car, my cherished S Type. Regards Peter.
  6. Hi Russell, and welcome to the club. I have not had this message on my S type. I am wondering if just clearing it with an OBD2 scanner might remove the annoying element. Everything seems to be working OK, so it does not seem to be anything mechanical. These electrical vagaries can indeed be curious to drivers of the old school! Regards, Peter.
  7. Correct, Rowley. He doesn't have the turnover that the big boys have. But he is very good with cars of all descriptions and was trained by Rover.
  8. Hi Rowley, Very interesting post, particularly when you mention a geographical cost element. It is known that periodically Main Dealers will run special offers and it could be that there was one on at the time. However facts are facts. My S type 2.7D [07 plate] had its service and MOT on the 11th June. I have used a mobile mechanic for 13 years, who collects my car, and brings it back to my house. The cost was £180 which included a full engine oil and filter change, as well as all the other fluids, plus £60 for the MOT. The book is stamped and I get a full invoice. I have receipts from previous owners which show that servicing and oil changing costs were over £500. Probably both location and no special offer. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Robin, and welcome to the Club. The Club has members all over the World who offer their experiences and try to assist each other. France is close in comparison with many. I think that you will find members very friendly and helpful. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Carl, and welcome to the club. The S Type is a very good and sturdy car, and the ZF automatic gearbox is the one fitted in Rolls Royce, Bentley, and BMW inter alia. Like everything mechanical, it has its foibles, such as the occasional lurch, and although ZF will say it is sealed for life an oil change at 70k has been very beneficial for some members . Look forward to driving a future classic car. Regards, Peter.
  11. Something you might know know about Halfords is how prices can vary from store to store. I bought some Wynnes EGR cleaner from their Lichfield store and it was about 75p cheaper than the Sutton Coldfield store. The purchases were just two days apart. They say that Sutton Coldfield is more affluent than Lichfield! Peter.
  12. Welcome to the Club, Dave. Nice looking car which you will enjoy. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club Greg, Andy has given you some good tips. Over the years, I have always tried to buy a car towards the end of a production run an all of the ear;y issues have been sorted out. I have driven automatics for the last 15 years apart from 18 months with a manual x type 2.5AWD, and enjoy them. There are so many optional extras on the s type that I would suggest writing down a list of what you want, and then take it from there. I researched the engines on the S Type and eventually went for the 2.7 diesel SE Model, bought from a main dealer with a comprehensive warranty, and a full service history. If you can get one with a low mileage that has been cared for you will have a good buy. Mine is in Indigo Blue Pearlescent with Dove Grey leather and 18" wheels. Regards, Peter.

    MPG

Yes, David, If I drive at 70 mph with the "S" button on, and accelerating hard my mpg drops to the lower 30's. It is nice to drive a Jaguar in a stately fashion. Peter.
  15. Hi Paul, How many on the list now? I am assured that the weather will be good. Peter.

    MPG

Hi David, The best I have had from my diesel is 53 mpg on a run from Birmingham to Sheffield, mostly on the M1 with speeds limited to 50 mph. When I was towing a caravan I used to set the Cruise Control at 56 mph and sit in the inside lane an relax. Easy! The 2.7 diesel has twin turbos, and the second one kicks in around 68 mph [2000 rpm] and keeping under that is both comfortable and inexpensive. Peter.
  17. Mine has been working well for 50 years, and can understand my boy racer ambitions as well as advising me on speed cameras
  18. I have used click and collect at Argos, and they confirm that the item is is stock or will be there the next day at a given time. I would not collect if I didn't get confirmation, as the experiences of others has taught me a bit. Peter.
  19. I have tried that but it says "Not fitted".
  20. I have a speed controller in my S type, usually in the front passenger seat. Peter.
  21. It should be about 85 AH Debbie.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Debbie. It sounded bit like battery to me ---- but it has been checked, so that seems to rule it out, although I would check if the battery is the correct one for the x type. I would guess that it is a bad connection somewhere. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.
  23. But the boy racers were good entertainment, though, Paul!
  24. Hi Robin and welcome to the club. I was also surprised by the lack of a footrest until I looked at the statistics of cars built and found that out of about 330k cars built over half went abroad to countries where right hand drive was not the standard. Add to that the number of cars with a manual gearbox was quite high, probably about 20%. The accountant in me says that making 3 variations of carpets would cost more to provide something that not too many people would be bothered if it was not there, A suggestion that could provide the answer if to buy a matching carpet tile and glue the required size to a piece of wood of the required thickness snd velcro could be used to put it into place. Regards, Peter,
