Find a good independent garage/mechanic. But being fair to Jaguar, I have had very little expenditure in the last two years. Two oil and filter changes, a full service, two new tyres and two MOT's which the car got through without any advisories.. Peter.

Hi Jerry. There are a multitude of colours similar to your car, and the best was to find the colour is to look up the code. On my S type the colour code is on the passenger side [left in the UK] just below the "A" frame when the door is open. If you then google the code you will get the correct colour. Regards Peter

Hi Christopher, and welcome to the club. The Jaguar gives you that unique experience with which you can drive gracefully and gently, but also quickly, which the big Cat does also like. I came back from Welwyn on Wednesday with a lot of motorway where I enjoyed the 70 mph stretches as well as the 50 mph cruises through the roadworks. Like Frank, I have had my share of speed, prior to the introduction of the 70 mph limit, but it is still quite nice to show a boy racer that old guys can still drive quickly and skilfully. Enjoy! Regards, Peter.

Mark 2 jaguar Hi Jerry, and Welcome to the club. I will look up the colour code, but Phil is quite correct.. British Racing Green is Dark Green, but I do rather like that colour you have. I have just been "talking" to another member from the USA [Las Vegas] who is also an S Type owner. When the then founder of the Jaguar Marque, Sir William Lyons designed the first Mark 1 & Mark 2 Jaguars, which were the predecessors of the S type he said that it has "Grace, Pace and Space", and the retro look has been to the S Type's advantage since they stopped production in 2008. Enjoy the Jaguar experience, and I hope you keep posting in the JOC forums. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jon, I am pleased that you like the S Type. We do make some rather good cars in the UK and not all Japanese, either! There is a process in the UK which cleans out the fuel system called Terraclean, which originated in Canada, which I had done on my car last year and it made a great deal of difference. It might be worth checking out. The Jaguar does like high grade fuel and I always use the best quality, which has regularly given me over 40 miles per gallon which is rather important in the UK with the price of fuel being over $10 a gallon. My s type is a diesel with the 2.7 litre engine, though! Meanwhile, enjoy the Jaguar experience1 Regards, Peter.

Hi Brad, Fairly basic method of finding out which one -- reverse till they start to beep, and then try listening and see which one is not clicking/beeping. Peter.

Hi Steve, and welcome to the club. The cam belt on the 2.7D engine should be replaced at 105k miles. The cost from an independent garage should be circa £300, and from a Jaguar Main dealer somewhat more. A Main Dealer in Coventry was advertising a special offer last year for a cam belt change for £350. Regards, Peter.

Hi Brad and welcome to the club. I have not done the job of replacing a sensor, but have heard that it is not difficult once you have located which one it is. Regards, Peter.

Hi Allen, I was advised always to use Premium fuel as the engine in my diesel gives better performance. It is worth a try. Regards, Peter.

Hi Bob, and welcome to the Club. I bought a disc from a company called SatNav Updates for £29. It is a 2011/12 disc and works fine. It took me through Dublin last week with a blip and there are no Postcodes in Ireland. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Stephen. My s type has the 2.7 diesel, fairly similar to your 3.0 litre, and I got 45.3 mpg on Wednesday on a round trip of 230 miles to Welwyn and back. This also included some miles through Dublin and the drive back from Liverpool. So, looking at 33mpg says you are doing a few short trips in the mix. I had my car Terracleaned last year and was very pleased with the result, and I would recommend it. I also use Shell V power and do note the difference both in engine performance and mpg. Regards, Peter.

Thanks Mark. When I get a "new" car I always write down the radio code so that I never lose it. Peter.

Hi Emma, and welcome to the Club. Have you got the manual for the touchscreen? You can download it from the internet free. Just google Jaguar s type touchscreen and take it from there. Martin has given you a good tip, also. You can get an updated disc for about £30 by googling around -- I have a 2011/12 for mine. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Paul. The S type is a great car, and as Sir William Lyons said when he designed its predecessor - "Grace, Pace and Space". My s type [2.7D SE] lived in the Cotswolds for three years before finding its way to Solihull for me to buy. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Michael, I had a 2.5 x type SE [manual on an 05 plate] which used to do the same thing when I accelerated in 2nd gear. I thought it was the exhaust, but never got round to getting under the car before some rotten so & sos carjacked me. It is worth having a look underneath. When I accelerated gently it never happened. Regards Peter.

I went down to Welwyn yesterday using the M6, M1, and A414, and encountered various congestion areas, road works and some speed restrictions as well as some country lanes. The round trip of 225 miles gave me 45.3 mpg, and I drove back in 2 hours and 15 minutes. The fuel I used was a mix of Epo, and Applegreen, bought in Ireland at roughly 99p a litre. It must be pretty good fuel. Peter.

Hi Robert, I towed a caravan for years and for 11 years with a Rover Sterling Automatic. If a tower has been fitted and you know what it has been towing then if it is under the 85% of the kerb weight of the car you should be OK. Unfortunately many towers do not stick by the guidelines, so I would be quite careful. I had a 2.5 x type Saloon with a manual gearbox and found it a very nice car, Regards, Peter.

Hi David, I rarely have the radio on when I am using the satnav, although on long trips I do as I like the background music. I have varifocal glasses and they are geared so I can read the instruments on the car as my normal near sight is very good. I have worked all over the country, and carry a good map in the car at all times, and when I was working an A -Z of the big cities. Regards, Peter.

Hi Elvis, I usually get my tyres from Halfords, plus a few other bits, but I wouldn't trust any of the garages similar to Halfords. Luckily I have used a mobile mechanic for over 12 years who can sort anything out. I would suggest you have some discussion with the dealer from whom you bought the car concerning the warranty. Regards, Peter.

Restricted performance, orange light, whistling from motor
Old Peter replied to avole's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Brian, I have been off line for a day yesterday so i missed your post, I have since checked and it seems that the 3.0 litre s type does not have a turbo charger which is not uncommon in petrol engines. Martin has made a good suggestion, as escaping air causes a whistle. A Ford Dealer would have the diagnostic equipment and Jaguar was owned by Ford for some years prior to TATA. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Jon, The S type is a very nice car, although I am a bit biased as they make them 6 miles from where I live. 77k miles is not a big mileage, and I assume the car you are looking at has the 3.0 litre engine which is a good and well tried engine. The check engine light will come on if there is a minor issue, and an OBD code scanner will tell you the reason. The S type is a sturdy car was well as a very quick one. We had a very hot day yesterday, but the climate control kept me nice and cool on a drive back from London - 112 miles -- mostly at 70 miles per hour. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Graham, The rear view mirror has two sensors on it that dim the mirror when required at night. There are plenty of little things on the S Type which it takes time to find out. Regards, Peter.
-
That's the one Mark. I thought it gave you the code number, though.
-
Hi Mark, A member poster the way to find the code some time ago. I am out all tomorrow, but I will have a look on Thursday. I might have written it down somewhere too. Regards Peter.

Hi Peter, I have located the Touch Screen Manual and it is available to download free. I just Googled Touch Screen Manual for S Type Jaguar and the full manual came up. It is worth downloading the Part of the Manual that refers to the Sat Nav, as I still have to refer to mine occasionally. Regards, Peter.
