Hi Andy, When you are buying and older car it is often not the year of production that counts, but rather the care it has had during its life. When you are buying a newer model it is usually the latest year of production you should look for --- for instance, if you are looking for a S type, 07 or 57 plated cars that have been well treated are the best bets, as they were the ;last of the production runs. However, Jaguar are very good cars and meant to please. Regards. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Eddie. The s type is a great car and a future classic. There are several members in Ireland, both in Northern Ireland and the Republic, and the question of a meet has come up. My S type will be coming off the boat in Dublin on Friday for a nice quiet holiday. Regards, Peter. -
Welcome to the Club, Chris. You are going to be asked a lot of questions, and I guess you will know most of the answers. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.

Hi Richard, I think the XJ power mirrors are a bit more up market than the S Type and the X type. Power folding mirrors were not on my x type, and are manual on the S Type. Unfortunately!! Peter.

Jaguar Owners Club West Midlands meet 19th September.

No Paul. A visit to Jaguar was always a no no on the same day as the Gaydon meet. When I was working I had a friend who had worked at Jaguar and was then a tour guide in retirement. They never were at the weekend as the factory is always closed for maintenance. Peter. -

Any day will do for me. Jaguar and Honda are the only major car factories I have never visited! Peter. -

Hi Ron, I think that there is a member with JLR connections. Peter. -
That's great, Jane. The S Type is too nice a car to leave sitting around. We only have one car now and my wife's red Escort EFI convertible has now gone. Regards, Peter.
-
Much Obliged, Ron The contacts I used to have are all well retired now, and some are in that great Showroom in the Sky! Peter.

That's great, Haydn. In double figures now. Peter.

That's 9 members so far and another half a dozen would be great to set the ball rolling. The good weather than we are expecting will see many members giving their cars a good polish and start looking forward to a good day out with fellow members. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jane and welcome to the Club. I also think that the problem is battery related. Sometimes there can be water ingress into the boot of the s type and with the battery being in the boot there can be an element of damp. which electrical things do not like. I used to have a caravan which I did not use between October and March, and always took the battery off and gave it a monthly charge every 4 weeks. A good battery would last 5 years or so. Regards, Peter.

Hi Ben, and welcome to the club. Paul has pointed you in the right direction. I am surprised that there isn't a CD changer in the car, although it could have been an optional extra. I did have one in my 2005 X type. Regards, Peter.

Hi Chris, There has just been a successful meet and rally on Brighton organised by Steve Sheldon and there will be another one before Christmas. Regards, Peter.

Hi Firoz and welcome to the club. The DPF needs regenerating periodically which can be done quite easily by a longer run about once a month. It does not beed to be at high speed at all but about 20 minutes at about 50 mph after the engine has got up to normal operating temperature. My S type with the 2.7 diesel engine is mostly driven on shorter journeys in the West Midlands conurbation, but it does get a day out once a month, and with 61k on the clock I have never had a DPF problem. I also use Shell V Power diesel, as I am advised by several mechanics that a performance engine requires the best fuel. Having said that however, many owners do use standard/supermarket fuel without problems, although I guess that they probably do a big mileage. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Arthur. And a very good first post! Knowing the best places to take your car is really useful. I hope you enjoy the Club! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Terence. There are so many waxes and polishes on the market is it so easy to get so many different opinions. I had my car treated with paint protection when I bought it two years ago, and I have only given it a polish once with a gentle autoglym polish. I do the three bucket wash treatment - one bucket of lukewarm water using a microfibre cloth - then another bucket of similar with a little AutoGlym Shampoo & paint protector. Finally I rinse it with another bucket of water using a microfibre cloth, dry it with a leather and then police with a microfibre cloth. Regards, Peter.

Hi Phil, That price does sound like a dealers quote for a one and a half hour's work. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Paul. You have found a good garage in Ely of which, coincidentally, I have heard good reports. While Jaguar say that the gearbox is sealed for life, many members have had their auto box oil and filter at 70k, and I intend to have mine done when it reached that mileage. I hope you enjoy theClub and there are lot of XK owners who will tell you about any foibles that might exist. Regards, Peter.

Hi Steve, I had a caravan like that --- not a popular thing to happen at 6.00am. In the end I disconnected it! However, you can't do that with a Jaguar. Not being expert in electrics, I am having a guess that the computer needs some resetting so, first making sure you have the radio code, disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and the reconnect. Having trained as an accountant, I can remember that the cheapest option is the best, other than when you send in the bill. Regards, Peter.

Hi Steve, Servicing is the key. Looking after the engine is a very important part of owning a car. Some car owners think that filling it up with fuel and having water in the screen wash is all that is needed. Peter.

Hi All, Paul and I have been talking about a West Midlands Meet and we would like to canvas options for a venue. The Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon near Coventry is one suggestion, and we would welcome any other suggested venues, and please feel free to post with ideas. Members outside of the geographical Region are welcome, as the Midlands is well served by Motorways. It would be great to have a successful meet in the home of the Jaguar Car and all those interested should let us know ASAP so that we can start a list and fix a date. Regards, Peter. Peter

Hi Jonathan, We have quite a few members in Ireland and I can only suggest that you might have to put up a notice on the Jaguar Owners Forum. I am in Ireland next week in Galway, and will be taking coffee with Lukasz when I bring him a part for his X Type. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Steve, Nice to hear from you again. No worries about the prize, --- my s type is still nice and shiny. I am glad you are interested in a meet, and now you have got connection with the site again you will be able to follow the thread. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dave, Interesting post. I had to disconnect my battery the other day but took a reading off the A setting which I normally never reset and for the 6 month period roughly I got 39.2 mpg over circa 3000 miles, which I am happy with. I am not known for hanging around either! Peter.
