  1. My opinion, too, Paul. But, as you , in time it will happen. As an aside, I got a Birthday card "Happy Birthday, Rumpole" Peter.
  2. What I think in two words "Not Much". I fail to see what was wrong with the paper counterpart. It seems to be bureaucracy for the sake of bureaucracy. Peter.
  3. Hi Kevin, I have spent some time googling the sensor location with little success. From the days when a cable ran from the engine to the rev counter I can only guess that it would be somewhere close to the crankshaft. Not having an x type I cannot nip out and have a look! With a bit of luck a member with that model might be able to assist. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi David, and welcome to the club. I have had a good google around on a site where I can usually find things and the best that I can find as a guide to the location is "Behind the dashboard". Other members might know where a bit better than myself. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Darran. You will enjoy the S type --- great car. Regards Peter.
  6. On the door frame, Paul. A three letter code.
  7. Hi Paul, I have just checked with my car and on the passenger side with the door open you will see a label with the code on - 3 letters When you google the code it will give you the answer. Peter.
  8. That's strange, Paul. When I looked mine up it gave exact details.
  9. Hi Paul, Have you tried vindecoderz. It will tell you all about the car as it left the factory. I was busy yesterday having a birthday party! Peter.
  10. Hi Brian, Just to add to previous posts, I would also check the air filter which is often disregarded. In respect of the EGR valve/valves I have had some issues with them, as I mostly do short runs. There is a product called Diesel EGR cleaner from Wynn's which i use occasionally when code P0402 comes up. It is possible to blank off the EGR valve on a x type which has been done by quite a few owners. Peter.
  11. Hi Kevin, I have been looking around for a map of the engine to locate the sensor, which to me is the cause of the problem. I will have another look tomorrow. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Brian, Try a terraclean service, which at about £120 is well worth it. I think that the engine is a bit mucky and that will clean the engine fuel system out thoroughly. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Adam, I was about to tell you how to do it, as there was a post some few weeks ago. Now write the code down in your phone contacts with a postcode in front of it. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Sean, and welcome to the club. I am not an engineer but I would be very careful with something like oil and coolant being mixed and what effect it could have. There are plenty of good XF Models around and I would be inclined to have a look at Stratstone Jaguar's site to get some idea of what is around for that price and mileage. I am not a fan of main dealers in general but they will give a good warranty and will bring a car from another part of the country for you. Their sister company, Evans Halshaw, will also pop up on the Strastone site too. I have heard of Mr Clutch, and the word not touching and barge poles have been used in conjunction with that company. Regards, Peter.
  15. Tractors can be very useful. I was playing golf some years ago, and two old gentlemen waved my partner and I through the 12th hole. We were in the bar when one of them came rushing in saying that his partner had collapsed on the 14th hole - the furthest away from the clubhouse. After ringing 999 for an ambulance I suggested we got him back to the clubhouse using the tractor, but I was vetoed for the reason it would not be dignified. The course has quite a few streams and bridges running through it, and when the ambulance came it could not get across a couple of the bridges and here was no other route through. The paramedic suggested using the tractor, and when they got the man back he could not be resuscitated. The paramedic said that if the tractor has been used straight away he could well have been saved. Tractors can be useful! Peter.
  16. Hi John, Nothing wrong with "old". If it goes well, that is the key thing. Just enjoy it. Regards Peter.
  17. Hi Keith, The body shop price seems very high, and I think your alternative sound much better. I have cleaned up and repaired wheel arch bubbling on two of my son's cars, and while a bit laborious was not too difficult a job. Neither car was a Jaguar, though. A lot depends on how bad the wheel arches are, but I would still try that route. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, James. Very Welcome. We have members all over the world and in comparison Dubai is only just up the road. The F type will suit Dubai from what I hear. Just enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  19. Sorry Neil, I must have misread! But the AJ25 [Ford Durance] engine and the same ZF gearbox is used in both the S Type and the X type. Regards, Peter.
  20. I did the "go compare" exercise as my premiums from LV went up after my car was stolen, and I finished up with Swiftcover. Tesco was the other good offer. I have found SwiftCover very helpful to talk to over the'phone. Always go for Fully Comprehensive ---- it is worth it both for peace of mind, especially if you are involved in a write off. Peter.
  21. Hi Neil, They told me 10 litres too, and when I complained that I had 4 litres left, they said that they had too! The auto gearbox on the X Type 2.5 auto 2001 -- 2006 takes 5.8 litres. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Richard, I have just checked and the your post is still there There were two identical posts from the same author. Your memory is still very sound!! Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Richard, I did see a post from you the gist of which was that you have had some problems with your XF which had eventually been cured and that you do like the car. I can't see why it has been removed, unless it was on another similar topic. If I remove a post, which is very infrequent, I always send a pm to the member concerned with the reason for removal. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Steven. We have a Funeral Director just round the corner from where we live with a fine fleet of Jaguars. Very convenient for us old folks! Regards, Peter.
  25. Nice car, Andy and welcome to the club. The S type is a great car to drive, and you have got a very quick one to enjoy. I have been driving for over 50 years and the S type is the best car I have ever had. Regards, Peter.
