  1. Hi Kenny, The carbon fibre is the interior trim and it is on about 200 cars -- the dashboard is the main bit where the wood is replaced with carbon fibre. Looks quite good, although I prefer wood. Peter.
  2. I got the engine warning light on yesterday --- Code P0402 -- meaning the EGR valve was stuck - and the electrical system was trying to open it. A good blast on the A38 cured it, but a small bottle of Wynne's system clear out was put in to help.
  3. Hi Danny, The carbon fibre edition on the XK8 was first fitted on the Silverstone model in 2005/2006 as an alternative to wood which is usually either Burr Walnut or Maple. Kenny will advise you on what to look for on the XK8. Regards Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Tony. I a bit mystified as you seem to have done all the right things. At a guess, my thoughts are with the key itself, and suggest that a good auto locksmith might know the answer. There will be a few members a bit more knowledgeable than myself who could also offer suggestions. Regards, Peter.
  5. I think a few porkies can be found here, Paul. Too many misspellings, and a bit Greek --- Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes springs to mind. Bargepoles and touchings springs to mind. Peter.
  6. Hi Kenny, Put me down on the list, I am an honorary member of the Viet Taff! - given to me in Rhyl on a boozy evening! Peter.
  7. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club. I used to carry a lump hammer for such eventualities, but that is now replaced with an OBD2 code reader. I currently have a message telling me my car needs a service, but from 600 miles to 1900 miles and other varying distances leads me to believe that I know more than the ECU. I would tend to disregard it unless the engine warning light come up, [which it won't] and when you get back to the UK get th e message removed by either getting a code scanner [quite cheap] or getting a garage to remove the message. If there is no amber warning light, and the car goes OK I wouldn't worry. Regards, Peter.
  8. I have not had great success in arranging a Midlands meet, but a nice trip to the Brecon Beacons would sound nice to me. A couple of days out, nice place to be and many like minded people. Anyone willing? Peter.
  9. Hi Darren, I hoped Frank would spot your post as he knows a lot about the X Type. Going for the cheapest first is my opinion too.. Often garages go for the easiest and most expensive. Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the Club, Darren. I am not an engineer or an electrical expert, but I think the ABS control module can be got and fitted for much less than £2k/ I have had a quick google and have seen some advertised for around £30. There may be a bit more to it than just replying the module, but I still think that £2k is very much OTT. There will be other members who will help who are more expert than me. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Garry. Andy -- who knows his way round cars, and indeed, the S Type, has given you the answer to the SatNav question, and also the best contact for retrofit! Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club. The X type is a nice car and I think you will enjoy the Jaguar experience. The members are a friendly group of people and will always help where they can. Dull headlight lenses can be cleaned quite easily with all kinds of of cleaner from toothpaste to the specific kit from places like Halfords etc. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi David, That was a narrow escape! It was a very good thing you know something about cars, and your experience will serve as a warning to others. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Lance, My s type eis a later model, but I have had a look inside the centre console, and there are two screws -- you will need a special screwdriver/small allen key -- to remove them. One is front right under the cupholder and the other is at the rear left. But as I say, mine is a letter model and it could be different on yours. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, Kevin. The 2.5 engine is a good piece of engineering , and the jobs needed you have mentioned on the car are not that difficult for a good DIY person. I am sure you will get good advice if you run into problems. I look forward to you telling us that you have just come back from a good day out with the car and it performed beautifully. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Phil, A question I can't answer as my S type is after the earlier facelift. There will be someone who knows, though. Regards Peter.
  17. Hi Dan, and welcome to the Club. Sunshine and a convertible go together, but whatever the weather Jaguars are great cars. I am sure the right one will come along and you will get the Jaguar experience. The Club is a friendly place to belong and shared experiences are good. The XK8 is a great car, and in spite of me keeping our S Type nice and shiny my wife still prefers the XK. Regards, Peter.
  18. I have never liked BMW Drivers, and I think instructions about how to tailgate other drivers for both BMW and Audi drivers are included in the Owners Manual.
  19. I would just add a bit of totally useless information. The Witter factory is positioned exactly on the spot where my office was at Shotton Steelworks. Peter.
  20. Hi Trevor, See my post on your request yesterday. That 2.7 diesel in the XJ is the same as in my S type and those who tow caravans with the S type think highly of it. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Trevor, I used to tow a caravan and although I was busy yesterday when I saw your post, I realised that I had seen several XJs with tow bars. I had a problem getting one for my Rover Sterling and I eventually found a company that did one for it - BRINK I have checked their website and BRINK appear to do a detachable tow bar for the Jaguar. They also have fitting stations in localities across the country, and are rather good tow bars too. Regards, Peter.
  22. A bit like coming home, Graham.
  23. Hi Julie, Try switching if off and then back on -- cheap option first. If it come back on a Diagnostic tool could be used to find out what error code it throws us. It could also be a sensor playing up. I come from the era when a lump hammer rectified many problems, and these electrical things sometimes mystify me! Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Phil, and welcome to the club. The S type is a very nice car, and with only 19k on the clock it is not quite run in. I would guess that had anything gone wrong with the car a Chauffeur was have got it corrected, although lack of use does mean that the car has never been given a good blast now and then. A bit hard on Guernsey! Make sure the car gets the best petrol, and you could get the fuel system cleaned out by a Terraclean service, as it is possible that the injectors have got a bit mucky. Also check out the condition of the air filter, which some garages don't bother changing it too often. Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Julie, I am inclined to agree with Ron. I used to have an X type and the exhaust design is similar to the s type. On the question about the traction control I will ask if the light stayed on or went off. If it went off it would mean that one of the rear wheels slipped on something. It happened to me last Autumn when I went over some wet leaves in the road. Regards, Peter.
