    mpg?

Hi Gary, You must be doing all short runs. I filled up a couple of weeks ago and did a round trip of about 90 miles with some dual carriageway and some country roads. I got 43 mpg. Since then I have only done short runs which has reduced the average to 30.9 mpg. Had I only done short runs I probably would have got about 27 mpg, Peter.
  2. Hi Jim, I hope you and your wife enjoy you move. If you just type in JAGUAR DEALERS IN FRANCE you will get the Jaguar site and then just type in "France" and you will get a list of main dealers available for servicing or sales. I don't know how to find independents but I am sure that there must be some good mechanics close to where you are. Regards Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, P.C. That is a great project, and there will be a desire from many members to see some photos -- before and after. Regards, Peter.
  4. Sounds a good buy [no pun intended!] Graham, See you around! Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Chris. I fell in love with the S type Mk1 when my mate was refurbishing it in 1965. I realised my dream in 2013! My car is indigo blue with ivory leather! Regards, Peter.
  6. I think the date has got in there and stuck. I would give it a sort spin and see if it changes. :)
  7. Hi Robert, Just a thought, but I am wondering if the DSC switch has been switched off. It does sound a bit daft, but worth trying. Regards Peter.
  8. Hi Robert, The short answer is "yes". I have checked the S Type handbook and that level of oil is recommended. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Peter, I too had a Rover - an 825 Sterling - for 11 years which was also trouble free for 122k. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience and I hope you will also enjoy the club. Regards, Peter, also from Lancashire but now in exile.
  10. Scanner easy on S type, Robert. Drivers side, knee high on the left.
  11. Hi Graham, The 2.7 Diesel has cam belts which need changing at 105k. All the petrol models have cam chains. You don't get the chance to go quickly on the A5 with all the roadworks. Regards, Peter.
  12. But can it put out fires?
  13. Hi Tom, The steering wheel on the Jaguar moves to its memory position when you get into the car, and a steering wheel lock could well break the steering wheel. Jaguar advise not to use them. The XF should have enough security in the locking system, as does my S type. Regards, Peter.
  14. A bit strange, that Robert. My DSC light flashed after a wheelspin on leaves last autumn, and I just plugged in the OBD Scanner, erased the code, and it has not done it since. In fact, the roadholding is great! Peter. That could be a sensor fault. But if the car stops, and you are not losing fluid you should be OK.
  15. Hi Graham, The cam belts on the diesel need to be changed at 105k. The road fund on the 2.7 diesel is £290, and I think the 2.5 Petrol is the same 05 plate and under. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Graham, You have had the 3.0 litre petrol, so I guess you will be able to compare performance with both the 2.5 litre petrol and the 2.7 Diesel. The DPF will regenerate itself with a good run once a month or so, and even though I do a lot of short runs I have not had any problems on my 2.7 Diesel in respect of the DPF. There have been 2 issues I have had, one being the electronic handbrake which has stuck a few times in cold weather but is easily released, and the other being the EGR valves sticking on a few occasions. The EGR valves can be cured on occasion by a good blast, or the use of various EGR cleaners -- I have used Wynnes twice with good results. The 2.5 litre petrol engine is the one used in the X type and is a good sound engine, and gave me no problems during the time I had an X Type. A friend of mine bought one as his retirement present to himself and though highly of it. The big advantage of a diesel is the mpg --- the best I have had on a long run to Sheffield was 53 mpg and I always get over 40 mpg on a longer run irrespective of how I drive. If you are leaning towards a diesel, you are welcome to have a test run in mine anytime! Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Kevin, and welcome to the club. Thee are so many optional extras in all Jaguar models. I have found that the best way to find items fitted as standard is go to to the Jaguar website, bring up the model in question and you will find them. Meanwhile, enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club. You have got an iconic car. There are quite a few places you can find spares. I have used the David Manners Group and I hear that SNG Barrett are also quite good. If you are looking for used parts, Breakeryard is a company that can locate one for you via their links with there dismantlers. There was also a S Type rebuild on Wheeler Dealers some time ago which I think you will be able to find on You Tube. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Steve, and welcome to the Club. You will enjoy the S Type, and, having had cars with auto boxes for 13 years, know that once you have made your left leg redundant, driving becomes easier. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Graham, and welcome back. Have a look on the Stratstone site first to give you an idea of what is around. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Anthony, and welcome to the club. I towed a caravan with a 2.5 petrol auto Rover Sterling for11 years and used the gearbox oil as recommended by Rover. I guess that if you use the oil recommended by by Jaguar you won't have any issues. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Robert, Just a quick response to the orange lights -- I think you can erase them using a OBD2 code scanner - most mechanics have one, and you can buy one from eBay for around £20 - £40. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi David, and welcome to the club. The S Type is coming into its own, and indeed, getting very popular. You daughter is quite right, as my niece had my s type as her wedding car. She just needed to go a mile from home to the venue in Hartford, Northwich, but I think thy did a tour of the area first! I am afraid that there is no Haynes manual for the S Type, but the good news is that you can download some, and there is also a company that does sell them via the internet for about £10. I have forgotten the name, but another member has used them. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Bren and welcome to the club. I have had a good look around , and while I can total numbers for the 4 litre and the 4.2 litre models in both coupe and convertible version, I cannot find details of the various model equipment without more details. It also sounds as if some aftermarket bits were fitted by a previous owner. Have a look at Vindecoderz on google and it will details of your car as it left the factory, from which a good stab at the exact version you have. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the club, Michael. The s type is a great car, and there are lot of members who have one and will help with any issues. Regards, Peter.
