  1. This will possibly be of interest to those who are criticising Jaguar for certain faults within their cars, and sometimes rightly so, although sometimes the fault can lie the the source from where the part came. Honda, Nissan, and Toyota have all advised that they are recalling quite a large number of cars due to a fault with the air bags manufactured by another company. There is nothing wrong the Honda, Toyota, or Nissan, but rather the company that made the Air Bags.
  2. Hi Rowley, I had the same problem with my 2005 X Type when my phone refused to pair with it. I just gave up trying as I couldn't be bothered. Peter.
  3. Correct, Paul, and I would remind members to try not to deviate from the subject under discussion. There is no objection to the content of posts, but it is much better to start a new topic than to move too far away from the topic in question. Regards, Peter.
  4. Joe, I think you are failing to understand what happens in the Automotive Industry. A car is designed by a company's design team, and the parts that make up the car are sourced from many different companies. A part that fails is not always the fault of the company whose name son the bonnet! The Aston Martin has used the Ford engines for years, in the same way that Morgan have used both Ford and Rover engines. I think that you would not consider either marque to be a Ford or a Rover purely because of the engine that powers the car. Richard has had many problems with his XF that I think have frustrated him immensely and should never have happened. The earlier XF models had their teething problems and some of the blame could be levelled at the source from which some of the ancillary parts came. Regards, Peter. P.S. To add an aside re the noise from the roof of an XF --- Welded by a robot but a failure by quality control at Castle Bromwich.
  5. I have been getting my just rewards for almost 50 years, and my Jaguar is very shiny too! Peter.
  6. Ford Technology is pretty good, and Jaguar were rather clever in using a very well used tried and proven engine in their cars. Not many cars have an engine made by the company whose name is one the bonnet of their cars. The makers of the Aston Martin use Ford engines, and Rolls Royce used to use Buick engines. In their early days Morgan used to use the Vincent twin cylinder V2 engine, and I believe that TVR use Ford engines too. There are not many car manufactures who make their own parts --- there are bits of cars made in very different companies across the whole of the West Midlands. Manufacturers assemble cars made from parts other companies make. Have you ever seen a tyre with Rolls Royce on the side? Regards. Peter.
  7. Hi Richard, The XF 3.0 litre diesel is basically the developed 2.7 D engine that powered the S type and was developed by Ford and Peugeot and was also used in the Land Rover. Drivers should not be surprised at the engine used in their cars. Until the German takeover the engine used in the Rolls Royce and Bentley were from Buick, and the Rover 418 had a Peugeot Diesel. Morgan cars are powered by Ford engines, too, as are some Mazda cars. The Ford Company planned that the Bridgend factory would produce a "World Engine'. Regards, Peter.
  8. A good independent is worth trying first, Barry. They can usually do the job. Main dealers are a last resort Peter.
  9. I generally do not use additives, and with the modern car and using the best quality fuel they tell us you do not need them But the fuel system can get a bit dirty, and the exhaust system a bit mucky. The Terraclean service does a great job and you probably only should need it every 20k miles. It is really a posh additive, although a bit more intense as it runs the engine with a replacement fuel for about 40 minutes. I have used Wynnes EGR cleaner with some success as the Exhaust system cleaner Terracean service is just coming in at circa £200. Peter.
  10. My 07 plate s type has avery good phone system, and very easy to use. I used it for the first time in two years yesterday to ring home while in a static traffic jam to say I would be later back than I thought I would be. What did we do before the mobile phone? Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Douglas. I think the dealer was talking a load of cobblers. I can't solve the problem as I have not got an XF. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Paul, I have used Blu Tac, and when the kids were young, plasticine was sometimes used Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Steve. And thanks for a good first post. Regards. Peter.
  14. Hi Phil, I answered the other post and hope you will get them sorted out. You will enjoy the Club as much as you enjoy your S type. Regards Peter.
  15. Hi Deane, The battery on Jaguars has a lot to do, and if it not up to full power out then certain problems can happen. A good battery supplier - Halfords etc will do it for you. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Phillip, and welcome to the club. You could try the Davis Manners group or SNG Barrett, either of who will have the parts. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, David. Kenny has pointed you the right direction. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Deane, Have you checked the battery output? Regards, Peter.
  19. I agree Paul. I keep mine covered at all times, If I go drinking, I go drinking, If I go driving, I go driving. I never mix the two. Peter.
  20. Hi Paul, I have to replace an interior bulb on other cars but not on a Jaguar. I have had a look at mine and guess that it is held in by clips which creaked when I moved them. I did not try to force it. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Gary, I have kicked this around in my mind for a couple of days without getting an answer. I think it is something to do with the key fob losing its connection with the locking system, and might need reprogramming. Don't go to a main dealer but if you google around you will find an auto locksmith close to you or even a mobile one. This fault can happen if the batteries in the fob have been dead for a while and then have been replaced. Good luck, Peter.
  22. Hi Phil, A friend of mine bought an s type brand new in 1999 with the 2.5 litre engine. It gave him no problems. The same engine is fitted in the X type, one of which I had, and I found it quite economical and never game me a problem.. Peter. P.S. I have quite a lot of sawdust -- applewood mostly - which is used regularly --------- for hot smoking fish!
  23. Welcome to the Club, David. I have a £20 one from eBay, and it does not do too badly. One thing that mine won't do is getting rid of the warning light and service required that appears for a few seconds when I switch on. Keep sharing experiences, Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Phil, Kenny has given you some good advice. Most dealers who sell cars and take older cars in part exchange sometimes keep a good one and sell it for a small profit rather than send it to auction where they might get a loss. Private individuals often sell cars "as seen" and often get up to tricks of the trade, as it were, to get a sale. In the old days, sawdust was known to be put in a gearbox to deaden clunks. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Paul, I managed to get a 2012 Denso disc for £29 and it works well. Regards, Peter.
