Looking forward to Friday 1st May

That's Great, Kenny. "Back in the Saddle" so to speak. -
Hi Steve, The claimed urban usage should often be classified as fiction. Manufacturers use many "tricks of the trade" to bet a better mpg than will actually be obtained. One trick is to ensure that the car carries as little weight as possible, which included fuel, just carrying a gallon or two, and ensuring that there were no unnecessary item in the boot. Some go as far a having very little water in the screen washers, also. Bearing that in mind, the caravan test is a good one. A member quoted 25 mpg when towing with an S type 2.7D and was pleased with it. Using Shell V Power I found that my mpg was 3 - 5 mpg better, and a terraclean engine service also made a difference. I have had a drive of 100 miles and got my best result of 53 mpg and knocking round the city I get circa 30 mpg. I would not be too disappointed with 45 mpg from a 200bhp car. Regards, Peter.

Yes Kenny, The new engines which will be coming in shortly signals to many that Jaguar are aiming for a wider market. possibly the company car market, which can be very lucrative. I am sure that a good Sales Director would see that an XE 2.0 litre diesel as part of a Salesman's remunerative package would be a relatively cheap attraction, and not very costly on company car tax. Jaguar will start that campaign, I think when the first cars have been well tested. Regards, Peter.

having problems with my x-type 2.2 diesel
Old Peter replied to alan1989's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
That was serious, Alan. I wonder what the cause of the pump failure was? My S type had its engine replaced at 21k under warranty by Jaguar, and I was told it was the oil pump failure. Peter. -
I am inclined to agree with you, Tomas. Some design embellishments to a car can look great, but can be overdone. Professional footballer swill like it though! You will see some photographs on this site of many very tasteful embellishments to owners cars which do improve looks without spoiling what the Jaguar design team have spent years doing. Peter.

Hi Jim, Check out the David Manners Group or SNG Barrett which might give you an idea on costs. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Keith. That sounds like a nice car and with a good warranty. My local Stratstone Main dealer is offering a two year warranty at the moment but I am enjoying my S Type, which still gets quite a bit of admiration, even in the local supermarket car parks. The 3.0 litre Gemini Diesel is a very good engine, and gets a very good MPG, particularly if you fill up with premium diesel rather than supermarket diesel. A premium car like the best fuel! Enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.

My retirement present to myself
Old Peter replied to Chris 1956's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi Christopher, and welcome to the club, I have been driving various vehicles for over 55 years, half of them company cars, all of which were new. Of all the cars I have had the best ones were both Jaguars . I think that you have an electrical niggle somewhere, and Jaguar, like all luxury cars, do depend on good power from the battery. It could be worth checking for output. I am not an electrical expert [there are some very good members who are] but I would guess that their is a primary issue that has not been addressed, as bulbs last a bit longer than you have experienced. I had an X type and the only fault was a reversing sensor failing. My current S Type - one of the last few manufactured - has had two rear bulbs replaced, and. like all diesels, has a sticky EGR valve now and then, which is an easy cure. Club members have found that Jaguar main dealers are vey good at selling cars, but not very good at repairing them, as they are inclined to plug in their diagnostics machine and then want to replace [at significant cost] the offending bit. There is a list of independent garages recommended by members in the Jaguar Owners Lounge on the Club site, which is worth reading. When that electrical niggle is corrected, you will enjoy your Jaguar. We make good cars in Brummagem! Regards, Peter. -
Hi Martin, I don't think any damage can be caused by a sticky EGR Valve --- the amber warning light would change to red if it is causing any harm. A good blast can sometimes cure it. The location of the EGR valves is at the outside of the V -- not too easy to get out. You are moving the right way on the sensors. To get a better mpg I would recommend a terraclean service. Regards, Peter.

Quite an interesting report, Kenny. I would like to see a report on the new generation of 4 cylinder 2.o litre engines, too. Peter.

'Creaking' sound when selecting reverse.....
Old Peter replied to Spidermoor's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
It does sound like brakes, Ian. I used to get it when I was reversing very slowly, but a couple of vigorous stops/slow downs seemed to cure it. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Neil, Good result. Now just enjoy your Jaguar. Peter.
-
Hi Tara, and welcome to the club. I am also inclined to agree with Andy. The cheapest options are aways the best ones to try first. Regards, Peter.

Hi Stewart, Jaguar and most other motor manufacturers were using galvanised steel for the undersides of cars, after much persuasion from the steel makers in the seventies and the eighties. British Steel were the big hitters during that time and their Coated products division made quite a few specialist products such as Galvatite and Stelvatite for use in the car and construction industries respectively. Stelvatite is galvanised steel coated with a plastic type material and is still seen on factory and office buildings. The one area which has caused some owners a problem appears to be the sills, which cannot be seen without removing the plastic covers, which might be worth looking at if you are concerned. Some members with older s types might wish to comment as to whether they have had rust problems on the underside of their cars. 2007 was the last year of production of the s type which is the reason for me buying one made that year. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, There is a good yard close to Birmingham Airport at the road at the end of the runway. I will look up the name - it means rooting through some papers where I might have written the name down, but they were very helpful with my Rover 825 in getting some electrical bits. Peter.
-
Hi Paul, the spring on mine fell out on first usage, but I have not bothered to fix it as I keep my charger plugged in. I think a breaker might have one, but I guess they will not be in high demand. I will have a look round, though. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi Paul, I have had a look at the XF 3.0 litre diagrams and it appears that the engine covers are the same as the covers on the S type. That was the easy bit. The hard bit was finding a part number - which I couldn't - and then finding any for sale. I will keep looking. Peter.
-
Hi John, That's a bit curious, but I think it might be worth putting fuses in the empty spaces. Regards, Peter.
-
Hi John, In the owners handbook it says that the cigar lighter fuse is in the luggage compartment fusebox, as it the power source in the centre console:- Cigar Lighter: F56 Power Source: F58 Both are 15 amp. Regards, Peter.
-
HI Gary, Nice car and looks well looked after. I had a x type and read somewhere that it has the biggest boot in the Jaguar range at the time. It is certainly bigger than my s type. Regards, Peter.
-
Welcome to the Club, Yuri. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience, and I hope you enjoy the club, too. Regards, Peter.

32 - 35 mpg is rather good. A word was removed which I have replaced with "rather". Peter.
-
Hi Steve, Ron is quite right. Just make sure the service pack is all genuine Jaguar. Regards, Peter.

Hi paul, I have found several of the foam sound proofers on ebay, but they were all in appalling condition. I have also talked with Bob in the Auto accessory shop and his parts catalogue don't have any of any make. He guesses that the main dealer will be the only place to get them, and they probably won't have any for cars no longer in production. There is some soundproofing sheeting available ,but i don't think it would suitable. I am going to look at the XF design, as the 3.0 litre Diesel is the same as the 2.7 but a little larger. I will let you know the result. Regards, Peter.
