  1. Hi Warren, and welcome to the club. The task you have sounds very interesting, and there are some manuals that can be downloaded free, but there are others that can be found for around £10. Ten minutes googling and you will find them. There is one site I recommended but I am dashing out now as my CEO wants to consult with Waitrose and Marks and Spencer on the best way to spend some money. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  2. HI Scott and welcome to the club. I have not heard anything bad about the 5 speed gearbox, and your car looks to have been treated gently. Some members have replaced the gearbox oil at around 75k miles, but there are some very good gearbox specialists around who will offer sound advice. Mackies transmission in Scotland are a very club friendly company and I am sure that if you have a problem a 'phone call will be all that is needed for some advice. Regards, Peter.

Big Journey, Jim. Have a rest in the sun today -- if it appears! Peter.
  4. We are, Paul. But I do know the answer which is that the S Type Sat nav can't do it. Pity, as I would get that modification.
  5. Hi Paul, I have had a look and I guess it is a separate part of the foam soundproofing attacked to the engine cover. I have had a look around and not found anything. While the foam strip on my car is in good condition, the larger piece of soundproofing is getting a bit worse for wear, and I would replace it if I could find one. I will have a talk with Bob at my local car accessory shop, and will see if he can find one. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Paul, I will have a look at my car and see if I can find where I can get a substitute. I did have some foam start to fail on my X type and I managed to find some similar foam and cut it to size. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Raymond, Jaguar Voice was an optional extra on my S type but was not fitted. All the microphone outlets seem to be there so at a guess it would appear that there ought to be the wiring connection for the module. I have heard, however, that Jaguar voice is a bit of a pain in the proverbial. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Wayne. We are told by Jaguar that the gearbox oil is for the life of the car, but many members do have the gearbox serviced around 75k miles. I would suggest you contact one of the Gearbox experts. Mackies Transmission in Scotland is very Club friendly, and will certainly give you some advice. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  9. I have thought about a safety camera, Paul, but not linked to the Sat Nav, as I didn't think it was feasible. My daughter in law has a Toyota Yaris with reversing camera fitted, and my son says that there could have been a sat nav and front parking camera fitted by Toyota, but the cost was too high. I would guess that a safety camera could be an option but I also guess that the cost would be significant. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Ian and Ray, and welcome to the the club. One question and one answer! Isn't that great. We make good cars in the West Midlands [and Lancashire] . Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the club, Mark. Andy has given you a very good tip. I hope you will enjoy your s type which is a future classic, in my opinion. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Gerard, The first s type we looked at was owned by a smoker ---- the smell was so bad we walked away. Get several air fresheners, and if the car is in a garage leave the windows open overnight. Give the carpets a good spray with the sort of freshener spray you can find in the bathroom. Persist daily and the smell will give up and go away. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Les, and welcome to the club. Hopefully you will get the problem solved -- Ken is brilliant with this electric wizardry. Scousers live all over this country --- there is one from Scottie Road living in my house, and has done for the last 48 years! Regards, Peter. Widnesian in exile. P.S. I went to watch Liverpool once, Both Billy Liddell and Ray Lambert had great games, as did Tom Finney playing for the opponents, Preston North End.
  14. Hi Rowley, My s type has a Varta Battery fitted with the date when fitted on it, which is very helpful. [02 2012] I have a least a couple of years left on it. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, Mick. I am afraid I know little about electrics, always having my towbars [when I was still towing a caravan] fitted expensively by the local mobile fitter. Jaguar give little information how to make electrical connections, and maybe there will be someone with the electrical know how to assist. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Rowley, The first thing to ask yourself is is the battery starting to lose power? Jaguars do have a lot of electrical equipment on them and often the Computer will shut down operations which it thinks are unnecessary, such a the rear screen demister, the radio and things not needed for the car to run. The second thing is fuses and earth connections. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the club, Gerard. The x type is a very nice car and Estate owners love the space in the back. I hope you enjoy the club as well as the car. Regards, Peter.

    mpg?

I thought so too, but it doesn't compare with the 45 - 50 that the 2.7 diesel gives me! Peter.
  19. Hi JX, That occasion has turned a disaster into an opportunity. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Darren, and welcome to the club. You can find the standard spec of each model by googling the model you are looking for, and if you have a particular car in mid and have the vin number you can try vindecoderz which will give you the spec as it left the factory. There is often about £20k worth of options than can be fitted on the SE, which can include a proper spare wheel on a matching alloy, throw in carpets, Sat Nav, etc. The extras fitted are well worth checking out. Peter.

    mpg?

Hi Michael, I usd to get between 32 and 35 mpg on the 100 miles between Birmingham and Leeds in my 2.5AWD on the M42 and M1. Cruise control on when the road was quiet, but mostly using the manual gearbox carefully, but still not hanging around. Peter.
  22. Welcome to the Club, JX. I hope you enjoy the club as I can see that you enjoy your S Type -- and rightly so! Fixing a window is not a dealer job, as any good garage will be able to do it. Main dealers will want a lot of money off you to fix it. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Donald, I have just checked on the s type. 1 Agree 2 Destination --- then look to right of screen and you will see the map of Western Europe. If it is indicating anywhere other than the UK [presuming you are in the UK] select change and a list of countries will come up. Select the country. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Donald. I think Alex is correct. I am not familiar with the XF touchscreen, but the S type allows you to set up a destination in various countries with the Western Europe map. It is quite easy to select the country on the s type. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Brent. There are quite a few members with electrical knowledge who will share their experiences with you. The S type is a great car to drive and it is a great pity that Jaguar discontinued the 2.5 litre on the S Type, while continuing its use on the X Type. Good luck with your search for the bits you need. Regards, Peter.
