  1. I changed mine about 9 months ago, but got replacement arms as it appeared that there was no easy way to disconnect the blades. The Jaguar main dealer nearest to me had a special offer -- £45 -- my local auto accessory shop got them for £30 and fitted them for me at no cost! Regards Peter.
  2. Hi Kenny, While ostensibly I worked in an office, my alleged expertise was in job evaluation, work study, and bonus schemes, and the only way to operate properly was to spend more time on the shop floor, and I have been in every department in many steelworks. In the sheet steel hand mills the quite thin sheets were left to cool before being sheared to size by hand, and you could hear them contracting slightly but noisily. Very interesting work. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Gary, The computer seems to recalculate the range and fuel left with reference to the last journey made. The range on my 2.7D s type varies from 490 to circa 550 at times. I filled up last week after a lot of short journeys and it showed 494 miles range. I then drove exactly 50 miles mostly motorway but with a 15 minute traffic jam on the M6/A14 junction. I averaged 48.2 mpg, and the range left was 514, higher by 10 miles then when I started. Curious! Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Sean, and welcome to the club. I think that you should have the battery checked as the first option, to see that it is pushing out enough power. Jaguars have a lot of electrical equipment and when a battery is on the way out it can do strange things. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  5. They try, but again, as has been said, there are a lot of different models of the x type, with different mpg. It is not only the model but also how they are driven and the terrain over which they are driven that can affect the mpg. I also think that it is fair to comment that many members have jobs that sometimes keeps them away from the club site, and even retired people like myself sometimes have several days on which they have some business to do that cannot be avoided. Regards, Peter.
  6. I get the same noise, too. Being a former steelworker I guessed what it was! Peter.
  7. Hi Paul, Usually Doris calculates three routes, and you select the one which meets your criterion. You do that by pressing "Change Route". But here is the bit that will be useless to you -- the only time I have had to do what you want to do, my son was a passenger and he did a lot of the button pressing and a new route came up! I am certain that there is a way to cancel guidance, and I will try to find it when I am doodling around sometime. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi All, I had company cars for 29 years, changing usually every year early on when my mileage was high, and every two years when I was on the road less. I often had issues with main dealers, and was inclined to check small details after a service. I have had a car with loose wheel nuts, several with rocker box gasket not fitting correctly, and once with an anti roll bar fault which the Garage said did not exist, and only changed their mind when I blocked the only entrance to the garage, causing a jam in the centre of Lichfield as cars could not get into the garage. The issue was rectified when the Police talked to the dealer! The worst was when one of my staff took his car into a dealer a week before the warranty expired for a full health check which is passed with flying colours. Two weeks later he took it in for a service and found that the bill was just over £2000 -- and this was in 1995! I only found this out when my Head Office rang me. I immediately went to the dealer and asked them for the parts they had allegedly replaced, why they had not found any faults three weeks before, and why it had only taken three hours to do the service but had charged for 7 hours. They reduced the charge to a "token" £100! Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Frankie, Jim has made a good suggestion. Jaguars do like a little bit of of energy now and then. Clears away the cobwebs, so to speak. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Mike, and welcome to the club. I had an X Type 2.5 AWD with a 2005 plate, and found it a very good car. There is a lot of Ford parts in the X type --- good technology. I am unsure about the answer to your request, but I would suggest a phone call to someone like the David Manners Group or SNG Barratt who are both reliable parts suppliers. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the club, Terry. Members have been told many things by main dealers, all of which cost a lot of money. Not long after I got my s type the engine management light came on and I was told to take it to a main dealer. Twenty minutes later the car came back with the warning light gone plus £69 from my back pocket. A local garage would have charged me £40 and my mechanic £20. Just a small example. Another member was told he needed new glow plugs and injectors at a cost of £1200 +VAT. A terraclean cost him £108 and solved the problem. Avoid main dealers at all costs. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Richards, and welcome to the club. The X type is a very nice car, and a great roadholder. I think you will enjoy that car and I hope you enjoy the Club too. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Adam, I have heard of this method of decarbonisation but from what I have heard it is not something I would do to an engine. Others may have a differing point of view. I have the 2.7 twin turbo diesel in my S type and have had the engine Terracleaned which did make a difference both in performance and mpg, and others have had the same experience. The mpg I get on a run of over 50 miles is now in the high forties with one case of a 89 mile drive mostly on the M1 with a 50 mph limit was just over 52 mpg. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Keith, and welcome to the Club. I did know someone who had several similar models and swore by them. Other than that I know little about earlier models, but hopefully someone will. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Gary, and welcome to the club. Just to echo what Rich has said, members share their experiences, and questions usually have an answer with a factual experience from various models of Jaguars. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Jo, and welcome to the club. I have seen this before in a Rover Sterling, about 20 years ago which was eventually diagnosed as a failing cylinder head gasket. There could well be another reason, and hopefully it will not be an expensive one. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi William, and welcome to the Club. There is plenty to read on the forums and plenty of good advice. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Martin. The s type is a great car, and buying one at the end of its production run is exactly what I did too. My car is Dark blue indigo and before I bought it it had two private owners plus five months owned by Stratsone also Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Scott, and Welcome to the Club. I have had two Jaguars, and both of them have had the paint protection treatment, which, though expensive, is very good and you don't need to polish the car -- just the three bucket treatment. On bucket of luke warm water, one bucket of good shampoo --- I use autoglym --- and then a good rinse with the third bucket. I always use microfibre cloths too. Regards, Peter
  20. Welcome to the Club, Paul and Bev. The Club members are friendly people and share their experiences which is always useful. Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  21. I have spent some time in the garden today, and it was quite warm. I think my car is lying! Peter.
  22. Hi Peter, from another Peter from Lancashire [Widnes]. I avoid main dealers. They are very good at preparing and selling cars, but when it comes to servicing them they just want to charge you the earth for very little work. Coincidentally I had a Rover 825 Sterling from March 2000 until November 2011. Stick with the Wigan guy --- and they sell good pies in Wigan too! Regards, Peter.
  23. My temperature display says it is 4 degrees C. I wonder why? Everything else seems OK -- cold and hot when I need it. Peter.
  24. Hi Kenny, There is a large private estate across the road which is infested by many professional Aston Villa, Birmingham City and WBA players, Gareth Southgate, being one when he played for Aston Villa and quite a few others, who I see regularly in their Ferraris and Lamborginis, and a couple of F Types. I believe they do get quite a lot of money! I did play a certain amateur game in the fifties and got paid expenses which provided very good beer money! Regards, Peter.
  25. That's great, Ron. I am willing to spend a shiling [poetic] to get something off the ground. I will check with Steve Barnes [Admin] and I don't think Steve will have any objections to the initiative. There are loads of Jaguars round here, as well as Professional Footballers who like the F type coupe. They live at the other side of the road! Regards Peter.
