  1. Hi Alan, I think you should back to the dealer who fitted the EGR valve and tell him to fix it properly. I sometimes have problems with the EGR valves [two on the S type] and I use one of two options to clean it up. The first is a good blast down the A38, and the second is a canister of Wynns Diesel EGR clean for around £9. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Brian, and welcome to the club. I find it somewhat curious that the Winter tyres are not suffering the same fate as the summer tyres. Ther was a survey done in the UK some time ago in which Goodyear came top with Vredestein a close second, so when th Pirellis on the front were getting to around 2mm I changed to Goodyear and found them much better than Pirellis, and I will fit Goodyears on the back when they get to a lower tread. I do agree with Jaguar when they say that Dunlop are not a good match for the car. I would guess that you will want to find out why the tyres get deformed, though, and there could be someone with more expertise than myself who might be able to shed some light on the matter. Regards, Peter.
  3. Good idea, Ron.
  4. Hi Paul, I don't get and white fumes at all. Just a slight smell for about 5 seconds. However, looking at the service history and ownership, I find that my car was owned by Stratton for a month before being sold, and that owner had the car for two and a bit years when it was bought by Stratstone who kept the car for about 4 months, during which time it had a new engine under warranty by Jaguar [either an oil pump failure or wrong fuel]. It is a strong possibility that any modification need to rectify the auxiliary heater problem, could have been done then. Regards, Peter.
  5. I thought this might be interesting. Wednesday was nice and warm and a stroll round Foxton Locks was quite enjoyable. The bonus was seeing this rather nice car,
  6. Hi Brian, Horn location above. Peter.
  7. Good thinking, Adam.
  8. Hi Adam, Kenny has given you a very good smoke analysis. I had my car given a Terraclean service which was very good for the performance and mpg. It is possible that it could help you, to. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Brian, The s type twin horns are immediately behind the radiator grill, and very accessible. I would suggest that you first disconnect the plug, clean the connectors and plug it back in. If it is still quiet a new pair of horns are easy to fit and do not need to be sourced from a main dealer --- car breakers have buckets full of them. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Adam, You seem to have done all the things that I would have done. It does seem that the car's mpg is much lower than it should be. What colour is the smoke? I am not an an engineer but I do have the time to google around, which I will do later today. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the Club, Alex. Your experience with Jaguars will be invaluable. There are two F Types living close to me, one Red and one white. While they both look great I also think that Red gives the car that "Jaguar look" a little more. Regards, Peter.
  12. Welcome to the Club, David. You must know a lot about Jaguars, and your experiences will be invaluable to the Club members. There a lot lot of members with the XK8 who will give you their tips and experiences. I just like to look at the XK8 with some envy! Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the club, Kirk. It is worth finding somewhere like Halfords -- I have a good relationship with my local Halfords Tyre Service garage -- and have a talk with the manager. Very frequently they are very helpful. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Liam. I have not come across that issue, but there are members who might have. I have been told that a clicking noise could be a sensor. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi James, There is reported to be a good one near Preston. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in exile.
  16. Hi James, Two other small tips ---- Parts can be sources from other than main dealers, and for servicing always sty to find a good independent garage --- there is a list in the Jaguars Owners Lounge forum on the club site. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi James, and welcome to the club. There are several members with such cars and will assist you. As has been mentioned, Brian has his car up for sale, and looks like a good buy too. I don't know of a buyers guide , but there are a couple of issues to look out for. The sills are covered with a plastic cover and some members have had rust problems, and there can also be a little water ingress into the boot at times Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Jack. That is very disconcerting, to say the least, particularly when the message centre does not say the usual "Parkbrake malfunction". Disconnecting the battery for a short time usually releases the handbrake, but on a slope that could be a problem. Thee could be some lubrication needed, but you will need someone more expert in electrical things than myself. Regards, Petere.
  19. Hi Paul, I looked at some diagrams yesterday without much success. I will keep on looking. Regards, Peter.
  20. Used dash is a good idea, Alan, One cardinal rule, though. Measure twice, cut once. Peter.
  21. Obviously.
  22. Hi Adam, and welcome to the club. I also think that a new clutch is needed. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Richard, Having got the obvious reasons for the wobble out of the way, Jim has suggested the other possible reasons for it --- tyre or rim. Worth checking out. Pater.
  24. Hi Paul, That is why you get an early whiff of fuel when you start off. It automatically switches on and off. It probably is not on for very long. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Brian, That is a good buy for someone. Good luck, Peter.
