  1. Hi Chris, There is a topic on the Jaguar Owners Lounge -- a list of independent garages, and there is one near Preston and another in Manchester which might be worth looking at. Let is know how you get on. Regards Peter.
  2. Hi Chris, From what I have found --- on a Ford Forum --- is that P0251 is a generic code, and covers a multitude of issues surrounding glow plugs, injectors etc, or even a fuel leak somewhere along the fuel line. There was no mention of the fuel pump or leaking cylinders. It might be worth a second opinion. But I am not on engineer, just a former accountant, so I always Iook for the cheapest option. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Paul, I think there is some kind of ability to use these new fangled gadgets in cars but I don't have an iPod. Having come from the days when having a radio in a car was an optional extra, I am more than happy with a CD interchanger in the boot -- currently I have Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook, and two Ella Fitzgerald discs. Some members will know how to connect an iPod. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi James and welcome to the club. Mackies transmissions have a liking for the Club, and have hosted works visits. Have a look at their Website, as I think they would be helpful. regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Alan. You will find a friendly group of people with one thing in common --- their love of their Jaguars. Enjoy. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Richard, and welcome to the club. I had a similar experience with a Rover Sterling automatic some years ago and found that a front tyre was the problem. Similarly with my X type after a pothole incident -- a new pair of front tyres and the tracking corrected cures it. Regards, Peter, P.S. My X type was the same colour as yours --- suits the car!
  7. Hi Frankie, I know several good car detailers in the Midlands, but unfortunately not in Scotland. I would try googling car detailers and I think you could find someone local. I have heard that "Chips Away" do quite a decent job, so it might be worth contacting them. Good Luck, Peter.
  8. Hi David, I have known several X type diesel owners who mix 2 stroke oil with another additive -- Millers, I think - whenever they fill up. They also used supermarket fuel, which most diesel users find cheaper but less efficient. A lot of thought has gone into what the oil companies put into their fuels, and I think that the amateur fuel fixer has a long way to go before getting to the stage when their mix of oils and additives is as good as Shell Vitro which I use [the nearest to me at 500 yards], BP and Esso equivalents do exist. I always advise the best stuff, as the engines are performance engines and need performance fuels. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Tony, I think that the thoughts behind the engines used on the new XF are all based on the emissions and fuel economy. The use of aluminium to make cars lighter does enable Jaguar to utilise a smaller engine, which trend I think will continue with other manufactures doing the same. I drove past the new engine plant in Wolverhampton the other day, and it is rather vast, which indicated to me that Jaguar will be making a lot of engines and will be selling some of them to other car manufacturers. Just my thoughts. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Warren, and welcome to the club. Tommy has made a vert good suggestion. I have used those small cavity bolts with wood and they are very easy to use. I hope you enjoy the club as well as you enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Simon, Thanks for the update, --- so pleased that all is now resolved and you can enjoy your car. The problems you have had and the cures make my 30 minutes with Wynnes EGR cleaner look insignificant. Regards, Peter.
  12. Welcome to the club, David. Your experience will be invaluable to the membership, as sharing experiences is a real boon especially for us oldies who find this new technology mystifying. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, David. Very nice to see another northerner. Regards, Peter. Exiled Lancastrian.
  14. Rod, The first job is check the battery, and the connections must be clean and rust free. Peter.
  15. Hi Darryl, and welcome to the club. Frank is quite correct. The computer will shut down what it thinks you don't need! Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Robert. Ron has pointed you in the right direction. I have used a mobile mechanic for over 12 years, and he always uses the best quality.. One of his maxims is "It's easy to go fast in a fast car. Stopping it is more important." The David Manners Group will supply genuine Jaguar parts at less cost than a Jaguar Main Dealer. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Graham, When I bought my S Type [from Stratstone] it had a full service history. It was bought by Stratstone off the production line on 13th pf March 2007 and taxed and sold on the 30th March to a gentleman in London. This is now the interesting bit. It had been serviced by Jaguar Stratstone until it appeared to have been bought by Grange of Exeter and serviced by them on 20/5/09 with 21821 miles on the clock . Something then happened to the engine and it was replaced by Jaguar under warranty. Grange had apparently used the car for 19 miles. The car was sold on to a gentleman in Gloucester on 4/709. Other than the reference in the service book I can find no other details of the engine change. The log book and the engine have the same numbers. I have looked around the engine but can find nothing, but I will have another look. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi John, and welcome to the Club. Do you know why the engine seized? There is a jaguar specialist in Armthorpe , Doncaster, recommended in the list of indies in the Jaguar Owners Lounge. They have a website www.the jagspecialist.com Let us know how you get on. Peter.
  19. Hi Paul, I have had a look round various sites -- Just Jags, Adams etc -- with little success. I recognise the part in question from when I had an x type, but on mine the lid was missing totally! Kenny has pointed you in the right direction. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Adam, I have the 2.7 Diesel in my S Type and get about 30 mpg round the city and up to 53 mpg [once] must mostly about 45 mpg on longish drive with mixed road conditions, I was a getting about 5 mpg less till I had a Terraclean service, which cost me £120. Just check it out on their website. It cleans out your fuel system and I thought it well worth the money. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Eddie, Sir William Lyons described the Mk 1 Jaguar as "Grace, Space and Pace". I wonder what he would have said about the later models. I think it would have been "These boys have learnt from what I taught them". I bought my first Jaguar when I was 76! Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Ian, and welcome to the club. Feel free to ask say question any time, as there will be someone who will share their experience with you. Regards, Peter.
  23. HI Jonathan, and welcome to the club. I think that you will have to get a replacement for the missing bits. You could try the David Manners Group --- they are pretty good for Jaguar parts. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  24. Tyres on the Drive offer quite a good service especially if you are working and find it inconvenient to get to a Tyre Fitters. Being retired and have the time , I have used my local Halfords which is only just over a miles and a half away. And they always will match any other offer. Also, having the time to look for the best deal is handy
  25. New factories often have teething problems, and probably JLR [China] were too eager to get cars out of the gates and in the showrooms. There would also have been quite a lot of inexperienced workers -- it takes time even for those on the production line to acquire the skills needed. Peter.
