  1. Hi Ian, Go to the Jaguar Owners Lounge, and you will find it as a "sticky" at the top. Sometimes you will find a specialist garage that is suitable and worth having the car transported there. Regards, Peter.
  2. It sure will, Joe. This was said 30 years ago, too. Peter.
  3. Hi Joe, You cannot disinvent the car. Not many people can afford new cars, and that is a fact. So they will buy second hand ones. Sixty years ago the majority of working people lived close to the factories, coal mines, and docks in which they worked, and even then there was much better public transport to get people to their place of work. Since that time cars have become cheaper, and working men and women have to travel much further to their place of work, and with less public transport the car is a necessary item. I used to work in a steelworks in a small Lancashire town and out of the workforce only 5 had cars, the MD, the works manager, the Stores manager, the Sales Manager and the Chargehand electrician. Everyone else came on their bikes, the 'bus or walked it. They cannot disinvent the car, and the majority of people in this country cannot afford new cars. The diesel engine, properly cared for has minimal emissions, about half that of the equivalent petrol car, and with twice the mpg of a petrol even less. You will see diesel cars on our roads for a long time in the future. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Robert, After a row with LV I went for Swift Cover. Around £500 for an 80 year old in expensive Birmingham wasn't bad! Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi William, I am not an engineer, but I think that you have done all the things I would do to find the knock. I would be inclined to take off he wheels and examine them carefully prior to anything else. I had a knock at certain speeds some years ago, and found some damage to a tyre on the inside. And while the wheels are off, take a good look at the suspension and shock absorbers. Bad roads and potholes do take a toll on those bits!! Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi John, and welcome to the club. There is a time in life that you want to do something that others may look at curiously. My sons both thought that after a sedate Rover Sterling I ought to buy something with a dinky little engine and a boot big enough for a walking stick or zimmer frame. But I fell in love with Jaguars when I was a youngish motor cyclist and saw my mate restoring a Mk1 Jaguar. So I bought the next best thing, a rather nice S Type, which I love. However my wife now likes the XK and tells me I am not too old to have one. I am only 80. Jump at the chance, I would. Regards, Peter.
  7. Thanks, Kenny!
  8. Welcome to the Club, Tony. I hope you enjoy the Club as much as you will enjoy your S Type. regards, Peter.
  9. Hi David, I have had that experience, especially when the sun is shining and the metallic element in the paint is making it gleam more! Peter.
  10. I doubt that my annuity of 63p a month will get me a bike. The emissions on a diesel S Type are quite low, and the CO2 much lower than the equivalent petrol model. The efforts of owners of older cars to keep their cars in pristine conditions should not be disregarded. There is more pollution from a London 'bus than from a dozen diesel cars, as pollution comes from vehicles stopping and starting and ticking over than anything used for longer runs. Peter.
  11. Hi Robert, I quote "In the sprit that made Lancashire what she is, we'd rather be drownded than done" Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in exile.
  12. Hi All, This is a friendly club. Exchanges of opinion can be done without name calling. There was a post about a certain gentleman which was descending into a rather childish argument. I have deleted it. This is only the second topic to which I have done this. The duty of a Moderator is a simple one ---- keep the peace. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Ian. There is a recommended garage in South London: J &DS Autos 59 Jasmine Grove SE20 8JY 0208 778 0948. Reagrds, Peter.
  14. Hi Robert, The attempt to repair is the key to the problem. If you know when it was done, and it was before the MOT, then the MOT is suspect. It might have been OK at the time of the last MOT and the attempt to repair might have been just before you bought the car. When I have bought a car, I have always asked for a MOT to be done before I take the car away. Regards, Peter.
  15. Just Google "David Manners Group", Jimmy. I have used them several times and they are quite good, and their site is comprehensive. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Mike, I am no engineer, -- former accountant -- so I look for the cheapest option first. I would try a squirt of WD40, or similar product, and see how it goes. Let us know if it works. Regards, Peter.
  17. I had my car given a Pure Guard paint treatment, and I have never waxed it in the 21 months I have had it. It is supposed to last three years, but I don't think it will, so I will be spending some time doing a thorough clean and polish in the near future. Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Mike. There are not many members in Ireland, but I will look out for you when I am there in June. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Jimmy, I don't think that Euro 4 altered any bits involving the engine on Jaguar/Ford cars, but I think you could check that by going to a parts Supplier -- David Manners Group, for instance -- and looking up the part. The website is a good one. Regards, Peter.
  20. A 2 year warranty is very good. My wife likes the XF Sportbrake, but I don't think I can get her to prise enough cash out of the coffers. Plus the fact that one of my sons will always want to borrow it when he goes on holiday! The good news is that my s type is going beautifully! Peter.
  21. Hi Russell, and welcome to the club. I have the same Sat Nav disc as you, and Doris has never let me down yet. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Robert, It sounds a bit like needing a regass. Also you can speed up the fan and see how it goes. Peter.
  23. Hi Ron, I am unsure about the X Type, but the s type Diesel has a cam belt which should be changed at 105k. Peter.
  24. Phill, I am very glad that I do not have to make that journey any more. I never liked staying over before or after a meeting and always preferred to drive there and back in a day. I used the Heads of the Valley road more often! Regards, Peter.
  25. That's Great, Leo. I look forward to seeing the finished car. Peter.
