They don't like cars in Port Talbot, Phillip, I parked my car in the Public Car park overnight when I had a meeting at the steelworks and was staying in a B&B without a car park. When I went to get my car at 7.30 am loads of market traders were putting up stalls around it. It took a little persuasion and the promise that I would be moving my car whatever , that they moved some stalls to let me out. Peter.

Hi Rob, and welcome to the club. There is a list of independent garages recommended by members in the Jaguar Owners Lounge. There is one that is spoken very highly of in Doncaster. Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar, and I hope you enjoy the Club also. Regards, Peter.

The first car I owned was a Triumph Herald, which died of terminal rust when it was a mere 6 years old with 99600 on the clock, with a top speed of 86 mph from a 1200cc engine. I then bought an Austin A40 Farina, with a 998cc engine and a top speed of 65 mph! Peter.

Hi Andrew, and welcome to the club. I used to have a 2.5 AWD x type, and I found it a great fast and agile car, which you will enjoy. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Steve. I used to have a 2005 X Type but with the 2.5 Petrol engine. A very nice and quick car with great roadholding. Best advice is to enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.

Hi Ron, i used to have a Rover Sterling 1999 model which was fitted with the standard alloys - top spec - that were on that model. The spare wheel was a steel one, which was only used once for several hours. But it was 15 years ago. regards, Peter.

The first car I ever sat in was a Rolls Royce, and it came to our terraced house to pick me and my grandfather up to take us to the local Rugby League match in September 1945. A beautiful black car with plenty of room in the back, as it was a hearse, and the owner was the local undertaker who was a friend of my grandfather. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Nigel. I have never come across this issue, but I am guessing it could be a poor connection or an iffy fuse. Those with electrical knowledge will also be able to help. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jimmy, The David Manners Group is quite good for new genuine parts. It could also be useful to have a look on eBay to see what is around. Peter.

Hi Geoff, I tried to organise a meet last September at Gaydon, but only 5 members were interested, and four of them were quite a fair drive away. I thought it was a good venue, and if a total of 30 people would be attending there would be a good discount on the entry fee, plus dedicated parking etc. The West Midlands is halfway to /from everywhere and a Summer Meet would be great. Regards, Peter.

Hi Neil, and welcome to the club. Jimmy has given you a good solution for fixing the Radio -- probably an earthing fault. While it is out check the connections. Regards, Peter.

Hi Robert, and Welcome to the club. Which mainstream sites have you tried? And what is your location? There is a member restoring an XJS from a rather rusty non runner [nice description] to a gleaming car, so the bits must be around. The David Manners group,JagBits, and Just XJS are worth looking at, and as a last resort BreakerYard. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter

Hope you can arrange something, Ron. If you can I will try to pop down there for a few hours to sample the diet coke in Berkshire. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Ron. Plenty of topics to look at, as the sharing of experiences makes good reading. You will get good mpg from the 2.0 litre diesel - I regularly get around 45 mpg from my 2.7 diesel.. Regards, Peter.

What to look out for when buying a used Jaguar XF
Old Peter replied to jamezm's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Welcome to the Club, Pierre. Nice to have a member from Canada. The XF is a nice car and it is great to see the Jaguar Marque across the water. Regards, Peter. -
There is a moral to that experience, David. Don't trust people who want to relieve you of your money for any reason. Second opinions are worthwhile. Peter.

Hi Chris, I got a similar disc from SatNav updates and it did take a little time to update and I also kept the engine running while it did the job although I am unsure how long it actually took. I think that 50 minutes sounds a bit longer than mine took, but a little amount of wax polish and a duster can bring up the wood trim while it is happening! You will enjoy your s type, give the engine a treat every now and then with top quality diesel, and you will get a very good mpg. Regards, Peter.

Hi Kenny, Can you tell me the link to download the OBD software, please, plus what i need to connect to my laptop. I only use a MacBook Pro now although my Apple desktop in working fine after 15 years without a fault. I got it second hand 10 years ago after having great problems with two Windows Computers. Hope you are getting back to full health, and I am so pleased you are back here with the great assistance you give. Regards, Peter.

HI Buck, I was going to suggest the David Manners Group which is quite local to me, but Andrew has already done so. I have used BreakerYard in the past with a little success. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Graham. I was thinking the same as you, as possibly the only quick solution. I would be inclined to follow that route Noel, unless there is some other way that a member knows. Regards, Peter.

Hi Joe, Many members do come to the Club to ask for advice concerning older cars, and I certainly welcome that. At the same time, there is great value in members with more modern Jaguars to be here to give the younger members an insight into the latest Jaguars and giving other some aspirations for the future. I had my tastes for speed on fast motorbikes in the days before the 70 mph limit, and then with a company car for 29 years I found more need for comfort than speed. I fell in love with the Mk1 Jaguar which my friend was restoring in 1964 and the S Type, which is really the Mk3 was my ideal car, and being a pensioner cost is also an issue. I hope to arrange a Midlands Meet this year if I can get enough people interested. Watch this space! Regards, Peter.

Nice one, Kevin!

Hi Kevin, and welcome to the club. I would first check your battery. Jaguars have a load of electrical equipment and a failing battery can lead to quite a few issues. Kenny has pointed out that a bad earth causes about 75% of electrical failures. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter

Hi Jimmy, You can buy a diagnostic tool [OBD2] white cheaply from about £20 upwards. They are quite easy to use and all you need to do is look up the code that it reads. When I first had the engine fault amber light on I took the car into the main dealer locally and they pugged it in to their diagnostic gear and told me that it was the EGR valves, and charged me £69 for 30 minutes work. Finding a good independent garage is a bit more difficult, but some members do go out of their way at bit to get work done rather than go to a main dealer. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jimmy, Glad you have resolved the problem. In the Jaguar Owners Lounge there is a list of recommended independent garages which is worth looking through, and you should be able to find one near to where you live. Regards, Peter.
