Hi Tim, A common issue with the S Type is a slight water ingress in the boot. My drive slopes slightly from left to right and water used to gather just by the battery --- not good. I put this down to the car standing at the dealers for four months, and after try some sealant I found the solution was to put some kitchen tissue in the area where the water collected and replace after a heavy shower. The water seemed to know it was foiled, and after the car had six months of daily use, the water ingress has stopped and I have had a year of a perfectly sealed boot. I once had a Ford Escort [Company Car] from new which after a heavy shower had the drivers footwell filled with water. It wen back four or five times without being cured, till I eventually found a hole in the wheel arch where a grommet was missing! It saved me from drilling a hole in the bottom of the footwell. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Malcolm. Vey nice car, and white suits it very well. I hope you enjoy both the Club and your Jaguar. Regards Peter.

Hi Robert, I had an x type 2.5AWD and found that folding rear seats were an option as mine didn't have them either. The x type has the largest boot of the then Jaguar range and is quite bigger than the s type, surprisingly. You can check the complete specification of your car by googling VinDecoderz which is a rather good site. Regards, Peter.

Correct, David. I never use "Own Brand" things like batteries. Luckily, at the end of our road there is a small Auto accessory shop who will get you exactly what you want if he hasn't got it in stock. Jaguar usually fit Varta batteries and they are dated when installlled. And with guarantees, I always photocopy them, fold them so the light doesn't get to them, and if it is car related I put it in the folder I keep all receipts, MOTs, tyre replacements etc. Peter.

Hi David, A lot of modern cars need a bigger battery, and owners should always follow the guidance in the handbook. The Jaguar is a complex car and if the battery is starting to fail the car will determine was it can shut down to keep the car going. Usually the radio is first, then the electrical screen demisters and so on. Halford offer a 5 year guarantee, so it must be safe to assume that a battery may start to fail when it is just over five years old. Regards, Peter.

Have you got a name for you car?

Hi Tom, I have googled around and find that it is in the roof lining at the rear. Jaguar dealers can use their password to get to the detail, but they appear to want to keep how to do it a secret. There is a diagram on another site but I was uncertain if it was for an x type. I will continue looking and send you the link. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Tom. There are quite a few x type estate owners who will assist you here. On my x type saloon the reversing sensor module was to the left of the spare wheel, and it is the same on my s type. Regards, Peter Lancastrian in Exile.

Hi Neil, I have been advised that Supermarket diesel is inferior to standard forecourt Diesel. I used Sainsburys diesel for about three months due to some very good 10p a litre offers, and noticed the drop in performance and mpg. I now use Shell Vitro and although it is about 7p a litre dearer I get a very good mpg - usually about 45 mpg on a longish run [i got 53mpg once] and about 30 mpg knocking around the City. You may get told that the tankers all fill up from the same depot with the same fuel, which they do, but the Supermarkets do not put in the additives that the big companies do -- Shell, Esso, BP etc. Regards, Peter.

I have heard of them, David, but I have never used them. I did hear of someone though who was not very pleased with their work. I use the same mobile mechanic that I have used for 12 years. Peter.

That is very strange Barry. What size wheels are you looking for? The wheels on my car are the standard s type wheels - 245 40 18". You can check the exact specification of your car as it came from the factory by getting on to a particular site : VinDecoderz.com It will give you the detail of the wheels -- mine read -- 8.0 X 18 WHEEL SPORT STYLE 0 That might assist. Google will /should also tell you what those wheels look like. Regards, Peter.

Hi Gary, and welcome to the Club. The s type is a very nice car both in its looks and its performance, and fuel consumption is not over the top for a big heavy car. A big plus in the car you are looking at is it's full service history, and you will be able to check things like the age of the battery. With my s type being on of latest produced and also a diesel, I have personally not come across any major issues myself. I have heard that members have checked the condition of the sills and found elements of rust. Other than that, if the car is nice and straight and all the electrics are working you should have a good car. The club members are a friendly and helpful group of people and will also off good advice. Regards, Peter.

Jaguar s type mk 2 1965 advice needed on re-commisioning

Hi Dave, The only way to contact Leo is to send him a PM, as he doesn't give an email address on his contact details. As a moderator I don't have access to personal details of members other than on the Member's profile. Check out Leo's profile for anything that might point you in his direction. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Barry, The only other thing I can think of is that an air hose somewhere has come off. Peter.

Welcome back, Kenny. We have missed you and hope you are on the mend. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dave, Personally, I would not use a main Jaguar dealer as £140 an hour is a bit steep. A good independent garage [there is a list in the Jaguar Owners Lounge] will do the same job but cheaper. The Terraclean worked wonders with my2.7diesel, so I would be inclined to include it in a service. The EGR valves are a nuisance, but I had Code P0402 come up this morning but it was solved by a burst on the A38 this morning keeping the car in third gear and keeping the revs at 4000. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the cu, Jean-Yves. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience, and I hope you will enjoy the club, too. Regards, Peter.

Hi Steve and welcome to the Club. Strange radio problem! Try resetting the sound controls via the touchscreen if fitted. Otherwise, there will be some x type owners who might have an answer. Regards, Peter.

Hi David and welcome to the Club. I had the same transition as yourself, having had a Rover Sterling for over 11 years and went to a X type SE [petrol] before getting my s type when some scroats carjacked the X type. Yes, there are loads of bells and whistles on Jaguars, but the first thing you should remember is that they are performance cars and do like performance fuel, so forget the cheap stuff and get the top diesel fuel from the forecourts. The Club members are a friendly group of people and will assist whenever they can. Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul and welcome to the club. I am not an engineer, but I am fairly certain than an adjustment is required. I usually get my tyres fitted by Halfords and always have the tracking checked, so I would have thought that the tyre fitter should have noticed. There might be others more expert than me will assist. Regards, Peter. A quick edit, Paul. Apparently the rear camber is non adjustable, but should the control arms be wearing or loose some inner wear on the tyre. I would have the rear end checked out at a good independent garage.

Yes, Andy, a failing battery usually allows the car to operate by shutting down unnecessary items. I think that Halfords offer a five year guarantee on some batteries. Peter.

Hi Steve, An expensive of getting a new key fob is to go to a Jaguar Main Dealer. There are plenty of good places --- auto electricians etc -- which you will find by googling. Recently a member was looking for the same thing as you and was able to get a new on quite easily, Regards, Peter.
