  1. Hi Dus, It also looks as if you will need a new battery, too. The s type is a bit fussy about batteries, and if you need a new one make sure that it is powerful enough for all the electrics. Peter.
  2. Hi Dave, and welcome to the club. I would guess than there is either a leak in the tube from the petrol pump to the engine, or a bad connection. The climate control will suck in the air which is "perfumed" by the atmosphere, whether petrol, fresh air, or fumes from a 'bus, Regards Peter.
  3. Hi Dus, I am afraid that I am not mechanically/electrically expert, but there are many members who are and will assist. Being a former Accountant, I would usually go for the cheapest option, which would be to give it a bit of a squirt with WD40. That might clean the contacts, which I am guessing to be the fault, Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Dus, Just a guess, but I think the indicator switch is not doing its job in making a connection. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Dus. I used to go to Stoke on Trent quite a lot when the Shelton Steelworks was there and knew a lot of great people who worked there. The S type is a great car and you will enjoy the Jaguar experience, Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi John, It amazes me somewhat, too, although I remember the time when a heater, heated rear windows, wing mirrors, and dual speed windscreen wipers were all optional extras. The starting handle did come as standard, though. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Neil, and welcome to the club. It is the same on the S Type. My answer is to set the sound of the Radio slightly lower than that of the sat nav. But when getting close to the destination in a difficult area I usually tun of the radio. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Geoff, I found a site in the USA that lists the maintenance schedule for Jaguar cars. I found it under Jaguar Maintenance Service and the company is J E Robison services. Regards, Peter.
  9. []Welcome to the club,K. The S type R was when first made was Jaguar's fastest road car, and very popular in the USA. I do like the wooden look, and I have had the Burr Walnut on three previous cars, and Maple on my last two cars. I admit to preferring the Maple with lighter upholstery and the Burr Walnut with dark upholstery. I have never tried to change the dashboard trim but I don't think it is beyond a good DIY expert. There could well be some members who have replaced the trim. Regards Peter
  10. Welcome to the Club, Peter. I would like to agree with Tim. A nice clean microfibre cloth is essential in an S Type boot! Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi John, and Welcome to the club. Jaguar have a range of extra specifications. It appears that the XF Luxury saloon 2.2D does not have powered folding mirrors unless specified at a cost of £430, whereas the XF premium luxury 3.0 D does have them as standard. That information is available on 'WHAT CAR'. There is however, another site -- VinDecoderz ---- which will tell you the exact specification of your car and the extra bits that were paid for by the first owner. I found that my car had a proper spare wheel on a matching Alloy rim specified. Let us know how it goes, Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Nick, Glad almost all is working again. Resetting the anti trap is easy - takes about a minute. Peter
  13. Hi Tim, Join the old school club. I had to buy a couple of new spanners recently as all my spanners were imperial rather than metric. My lump hammer is compatible with metric, though! Peter.
  14. Hi Nick, I have just found the S Tye Handbook via Google, Just tap in: R S-TYPE OWNER'S HANDBOOK Jaguar The full handbook is there and could be worth downloading, but a good read and a few notes would probably suffice. If you can't find it PM me with your address and I will copy and send the relevant pages 200 to 204 in my handbook, Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Tim and welcome to the club. Could the problem be a loose wire somewhere? Hopefully, other s type owners will also have some suggestions, Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Nick, You appear to have done all the logical things. The handbook indicates that if a new battery is connected it must be the same type as the original. If you have the handbook for the s type Page 204 has a detailed procedure. If you haven't, please lets me know and I will copy in the pages concerned. It may be that you will have to disconnect the battery and go through the procedure again. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Geoff. I am not mechanically expert, but there are some members who do their own servicing who I am sure will assist. There will be a list somewhere, but not in the owners Handbooks, as Jaguar Main Dealers like to charge you £140 an hour to do work on your car. I will have a look round on the internet and I am sure that there is something there, and will get back to you. Regards, Peter.
  18. That is a good idea, Simon. A member did buy a car with a new battery fitted by the dealer - He did put a photo on the site to demonstrate it and it was a tiny battery which would never power an S Type. Peter.
  19. Hi Duncan, and welcome to the club. Both the options you have give room for thought. A genuine Jaguar nine with only 30k on the clock sounds good as long as you get a good warranty The other option depends on where you are getting the job done and what guarantees they give as well as how trustworthy they are. My S type had a new engine fitted at 22k by Jaguar under warranty during its first period of ownership, so I would be inclined to go with the option of the replacement engine. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Steve, A postscript. The 2.7 diesel has two turbochargers one of which kicks at very low revs and the other at 2000rpm -- approx 70 mph. If you are on a long journey set your CC at 68 mph for the best fuel economy. Peter.
  21. Hi Steve, and welcome to the Club. I have a similar S type, 2007, with 59k on the clock, although it has a new engine at 22k. MPG around town will be around 27 -- Birmingham is also a big city, although I live on the very edge. I did get 53 mpg on a long motorway run with speed restricted to 50 mph due to roadworks, but when the roads are clear you can expect over 40 mpg. There are a couple of things to remember. One is that the 2.7 diesel engine from 2005/6 onwards has a diesel particulate filter which will need a regular regeneration which is achieved by an occasional drive at over 40mph for about 20 minutes after the engine has reached its normal operating temperature. There are also two EGR valves at either side of the engine which can get a bit bunged up, but which can be cured by a good blast - press the S button and accelerate hard when you can. There is also a product from Wynns - you can get it from Halfords - Diesel EGR Cleaner. Keeping the engine happy is also achieved by avoiding supermarket fuel, and sometimes a dose of the expensive diesel does no harm. I also gave my car a Terraclean service last year and it worked wonders with the performance and gave me an extra 3 to 4 mpg. It is a great car to drive, and in my opinion a future classic. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Frank, Jaguar usually fit Varta batteries, but there are several other good makes which will fit. Some also have a guarantee. Halfords are usually quite safe, and will probably also give a guarantee --- look for four years. Regards, Peter. PS -- Have your discount card ready!
  23. Hi Harvey, The answer will be of great help. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Thomas, Trevor has indicated the probable cure. Simply turn on the radio - you will need the code - and then follow the system reset, All will then work. I do it regularly when I get "Park brake malfunction". Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Andrew. I am not an engineer, but at a guess, I think the fault could be down to gearbox oil. Some members have had the oil and filter changed at 75,000 miles, in spite of Jaguar saying that the gearbox is for life, and say that it has made a difference. The could well be other members who will make some welcome suggestions, Regards, Peter.
