  1. Hi ian, Just a guess, but it should. They didn't do much in the way of change then. Peter.
  2. Hi Matthew, The socket is on the drivers side about knee high at the left side of the footwell. Once you have found it, you will never forget it. My s type is the 2007 D, but I don't think they would have changed the location. If Stan reads this, he will be able to confirm this or otherwise. Peter.
  3. Hi David, and welcome to the club. That system has always worked for me and others. Is your battery fully charged? Have you got a Homestart in your breakdown assistance which could be a help. I would be inclined to have another go first before contacting a garage, or doing any work on it yourself. I am not a mechanic but just an experienced driver. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Simon. That is some car you have bought. I think a lot of members would like to see some pictures. Regards, Peter.
  5. Mudflaps do protect the sills very much. Mine cost £50 - genuine Jaguar part -- and my mechanic fitted them for £20. Well worth the money.
  6. A logical decision, Stephen. I love my S Type and it will probably be my last car --- if it stays working properly. I am 80 now but fit and more or less well, although the moving parts need a squirt of WD40 now and then. The XF is a very nice car and although I don't think it looks as good as the S Type, it has the look of a Jaguar --- I think we all have to accept that styling has to change. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Keith, and welcome to the club. My s type has had this happen to me on a few occasions. The first time I called out the recovery service from Britannia Rescue, snd the guy said he knew nothing about modern cars. Britannia rescue was cancelled. We discovered by googling the issue that you can release a stuck handbrake by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnecting it, which allows the onboard computer to reset. You will need to have your radio code ready to reset your other settings. You will then need to press the footbrake --- there will be an instruction on the message centre -- and handbrake. That will complete the reset without any need to spend money. I had to buy two new spanners as all my spanners were imperial rather than metric! I keep those two spanners in the glovebox! Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Gary, Glad you are enjoying your Jaguar. You can reset you MPG quite easily by pressing the button at the end of the left hand stem on the steering wheel and the reset button on the right hand side instrument cluster. Handbook 106/107. And always keep you climate control on auto [except when you have the "defrost" button on which will only be for a minute or two when the auto will switch off automatically and will need switching back on when the car is demisted. There is a lot of reading in the handbook! Has your car got the touch screen display? Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Neil. The x type is a very good car -- I had a 2005 X type 2.5 SE. Well appointed and very good looking cars. Regards Peter.
  10. Welcome to the Club, Mike. I wish mine was sitting there too. Mine is not as shiny as usual, but she has only been to the Supermarket in the rain! Regards and enjoy, Peter.
  11. XK8 owners --- any thoughts? Peter.
  12. I tried to organise a meet last October in Gaydon at the Classic Car museum, but it did not really get off the ground --- possibly either the date or members might have not thought too well of getting to and from the big conurbation that is the West Midlands. Perhaps leafy Cheshire might provide a good venue. Peter.
  13. Hi John, and welcome to the Club. Not firing correctly could be one of a few things. I am not an expert but I had the same problem on my Rover sterling a few years ago with a power loss and it was the coil pack. I got the new part from BreakerYard and my mechanic fitted it. My S type is a diesel and if not firing correctly I would also suspect injectors or glow plugs. Members with the 3 litre engine could also advise. Regards Peter. P.S. There is a list of independent Jag specialists on the Jaguar Owner Lounge which could assist.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Matthew. A good battery of the correct size is essential for Jaguars, as there are a lot of electrical bits that need power. On the Jaguar, you will find that if a battery is failing and not holding a charge the less essential functions of the car close down, and I guess that warning lights are amongst those. When you gave the car a run you were definitely in limp home mode, and an OBD2 reader should tell you why. Let us know how you get on. The s type is a great car and the 3 litre petrol engine is a unit well used by Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  15. David, when this rebuild is finished, I think a lot of members would like to see the result. Perhaps a meet somewhere suitable would be a great day out, too. Peter.
  16. Ian, I think what you have suggested is the correct route. And probably the cheapest. Taking out the petrol tank to get at something fairly fundamental does seem a bit drastic. Peter.
  17. Stan, A lump hammer, an adjustable spanner, a No. 8 stillson and a pair of pliers. Peter.
  18. My Mechanic who has serviced/repaired my cars for about 13 years likes the quietness of the 2.7 Twin Turbo diesel in my s type. He saves the exhaust experience for his big motorbike. On my 1962 Honda Dream which I bought when it was only a few months old, the very quiet exhaust had been replace by twin pipes which gave a great sound. A Sporty saloon needs a good sound now and then! Peter
  19. It could be , Stan. There are two codes referring to the APP and a very indeterminate answer from Fixya, but both seem to indicate a failing/failed sensor. Peter.
  20. Trevor, Clarkson spent a long time telling people about the Ford supercar he had ordered at a cost of £250k which turned out to be a complete lemon, and which he quietly got rid of after several occasions when the engine completely shut down after telling him that the car had been stolen when he was actually driving it. My s type also has a dipstick which I think does not give me a correct reading. The engine was replaced by Jaguar at 21,000 miles and I feel that the dipstick tube what not put on correctly. But the car tells me that the oil level is OK and I use Castrol Magnatec. Peter.
  21. Hi mjr, The fault code P1576 is the Accelerator position fault code -- it could be a failed APP sensor. It could be something to do with the throttle body. But not being an engineer I don't know how to fix it! Regards, Peter.
  22. My s type has a proper spare wheel with matching alloys rim. Specified as a extra by the first owner. I like it! Peter.
  23. Age is a relative thing. I don't feel old when I am driving, especially when a boy racer flashes me when I am doing 70 on the A38 or the Motorway and I can leave him standing . After all, I am not 81 till June! Peter
  24. Welcome to the Club, Declan. Nice car and a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing! You will enjoy that car! Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the club, Richard. The auto dim is a wonderful invention and well worth having. I have it on my s type. There are some members who will know how to do what you will need to do. Good Luck, Peter.
