  1. I chicken out at around 70mph when my wife is in the passenger seat, Rob, but I was driving fast bikes in the sixties and know what it feels like at 100 +. Peter.
  2. The Jaguar Specialists usually have the software, Sal. It could be well worth asking them rather than the main dealer who will charge about £70 for a half hour diagnostic check and £140 an hour to do the work. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Keith, I am of the old school and feel that the Jaguar engineers and designers do a pretty good job. Bearing in mind the S Type R was the fastest road car made by Jaguar when it first hit the market, I would be inclined to leave well alone, pamper the car, and look after it mechanically, and enjoy it. But having said that, other have enhanced their cars to good effect. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Rob, I have the rather sedate 2.7Diesel. It will only do 142 mph! All the s type models are very nice cars. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Neil. Glad the problem has been sorted out. I am thinking of partial blanking plates on my s type 2.7D V6 as I periodically get Code P0402 when the warning light comes on. I have used the method of a good blast on the A38 and the Wynn's EGR cleaner when that doesn't work. Let us know how it goes. Regards, Peter.
  6. I would like to wish every one and their families a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Peter.
  7. Hi Sal, and welcome to the club. I am inclined to agree with Frank. I know little about Pentagon other than that they are a big car servicing company. Many members have found that big is not necessarily best. I would write to Pentagon and tell them exactly what has happened to your car AFTER they had had it in for service. It was perfectly alright till they got it in their hands, and it seems fairly obvious to me that they have not given it a test drive after service. There is a topic in the Jaguar Owners Lounge concerning recommended independent dealers and I do know that there is a very good independent Jaguar Specialist in Doncaster. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Ron. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Sharing experiences is a good thing and a learning curve for ll. Regards, Peter Lancastrian in exile.
  9. Nice colour too, Keith. The same as mine! Peter.
  10. Hi Lance, and Welcome to the Club. Mike has given you a good site to go for. I updated my 2005/6 provided for my 2007 s type from a site called Satnav udates, but the y appear not to be operating at the moment, but the disc was the last one for the s type and it was a 2013 disc and cost £29 + p%p. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Ian, I hope you get it sorted out. There is a saying "Measure twice, cut once" --- some things are always worth checking. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Chris, Try the David Manners Group. They have a good website and I have used them several times. I have also used Breakeryard who will try to source your part from the various car breakers across the country. I have used them on several occasions. Let us know your opinion, Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Keith. There are a great number of good and friendly people around here. You will enjoy your S Type, and sharing experiences is a big plus for the members of the club. Regards, Peter.
  14. There is a great diversity amongst main dealers. I am lucky to have had two very good ones. Trevor has been lied to, which is unforgiveable. Peter.
  15. Hi Malcolm and welcome to the Club. I think Mike has probably given the right answer. I had a couple of guesses, but my S type is one of the last few made so I have not had that experience. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi mj, As promised: Miles Mobile mechanic 07768 118 224 M&B Autos o7836 243 742. Peter.
  17. Hi mj, I have been googling around but the good people of Leamington don't appear to have any good local service garages for Jaguars. There is a place I found in Southampton: Regal Autosport - 02380 987412 - SO17 987412 Belrave Road. I was wondering if there were any mobile mechanics in the area who could do the diagnostic test. If you have an OBD2 code reader you might find out the problem, but it might need a more sophisticated pice of kit to find the problem. I do recall an XK8 on Wheeler Dealers which had a similar problem -- limp home mode coming on when the car was warmed up - which was found to be a faulty sensor. I will look around for a mobile mechanic in the area and get back to you. Regards, Peter.
  18. Could be, Frank. Of course, getting the feel of the car on a drive can tell a mechanic quite a lot, but us old drivers can only go by experience. Peter.
  19. Hi Frank, All S types are rear wheel drive. I have had a whine but never a rumble from an RWD vehicle. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Shaun, I am afraid I could not put my finger on that as I am not an engineer, but I have come across situations where vibration occurs at a certain rpm and goes away when the revs increase or decrease. It is usually something loose. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Shaun, I can't think of anything without hearing/experiencing a the rumble, But the first thing that comes to mind is the exhaust is a touch loose. Maybe the rubber mounts holding it on? Regards,, Peter.
  22. I still read the s type owner's manual, Gary. After leaving the car unused for three days, when I started the engine I found that the handbrake was stuck on, and the engine amber warning light came on. After fixing the handbrake I plugged in the OBD2 code reader and found P0402 -- EGR valve, which has yet to be done. Wynn's EGR cleaner will have to be brought into use! Always something even it is just giving the car a good valet. Peter.
  23. Hi Amanda, You are quite right about mudflaps. I had a full set of genuine jaguar mudflats fitted [£50], but they showed their value when I went to the RAF Waddington Air Show and collected a bucketful of mud from the field in which we parked. Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, John. The X type 2.5 V6 AWD is a very good car, and if the engine runs well it must have been serviced well, and probably not be a dealer but by someone who knew what they were doing. I used to have an x type with a similar engine, but with an manual gearbox in absolute pristine condition, but it was borrowed on non returnable unauthorised loan by two scroats for whose current accommodation for the next 8 years is being paid for by the honest people of England. Just check the air filter, se how new the oil filter looks, -- Trevor has mentioned the cam belts, and getting them done at work is always a good idea. When I worked in a big factory I used to do the same and a regular service used to cost 17/9 stopped out of my salary -- quite a while ago, Enjoy your Jaguar and enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Stephen, Batteries are often the source of many small issues if they are not up to scratch. It could be that the battery is failing or is not the correct one. I would recommend that you check the battery out, as when it is on the way out smaller matters appear to switch themselves off to enable the car to function. Regards, Peter.
