  1. Hi David, Sometimes a good blast cures whatever it is. My diesel gets it when the EGR valves get sticky. Regards, Peter. PS- The S type 2.5 petrol also has EGR Valves. I would still get the OBD2 code reader.
  2. Welcome to the club, Billy. There are lots of experiences to share. which is very useful. The most difficult thing with parking sensors is finding which one it is. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the club, Rodney. Possibly the parking sensor unit itself is faulty, rather than the ECU. There is topic in the Jaguar Owners Lounge Forum which lists recommended Independent Garages which tend to be cheaper and better than the main dealers. There is a Jaguar specialist in Doncaster which is highly thought of. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi David, Have you got a OBD2 code reader? It will tell you the code number and then you can find out exactly what engine malfunction it is. I got one from BV electronics - cost £20. [via eBay] If you have a friendly mechanic/garage they will do a diagnostic check for you. Main Dealers will also do a check for about £70, as it only takes a few minutes --- they are too expensive for me! Let us know how you get on. Peter.
  5. Hi Michael and welcome to the Club. Richard has had a very bad experiece with his XF. There are several members who have done the job you are looking at, and will point you in the right direction. I do not get oily hands any more! Regards, Peter.
  6. WOW! Hard work, but what a result. Peter.
  7. Hi Dan, My 2005 X Type SE [2005] did not have those items and it came from a top dealer with whom I have had business connections for over 30 years. Aldi sell a good fire extinguisher of £8.99, and I will get a warning triangle before I go on holiday. I have also put together a first aid box. Those bit you mention are the ones that Jaguar d not put in cars, but hope you will buy them! Regards, Peter.
  8. There is also a strap in my s type Dan, and it is for holding something of your choice in place. I have a canister of WD40, and a pint bottle with screen washer in mine. Peter.
  9. My favourite colour is blue, but when my wife saw a gleaming X Type 2.5 SR AWD in the same red as Ruby she just had to have it, and absolutely loved it, as did I. But a pair of car jackers also liked it and drove off into the sunset. It appears they are now doing 8 years in Her Majesty's local guest house. But my wife told me to turn a disaster into an opportunity and an Indigo Blue S Type has been our possession for 18 months. Peter.
  10. Hi Chris and welcome to the club. Diesel engines do need a clean out now and then. I had my 2.7D Terracleaned [cost around £120] and it made a great deal of difference. It will clean out all the fuel systems and I think cleaning the injectors is a bit cheaper than replacing them. Let us know how you get on. Peter.
  11. I chicken out at around 70mph when my wife is in the passenger seat, Rob, but I was driving fast bikes in the sixties and know what it feels like at 100 +. Peter.
  12. The Jaguar Specialists usually have the software, Sal. It could be well worth asking them rather than the main dealer who will charge about £70 for a half hour diagnostic check and £140 an hour to do the work. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Keith, I am of the old school and feel that the Jaguar engineers and designers do a pretty good job. Bearing in mind the S Type R was the fastest road car made by Jaguar when it first hit the market, I would be inclined to leave well alone, pamper the car, and look after it mechanically, and enjoy it. But having said that, other have enhanced their cars to good effect. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Rob, I have the rather sedate 2.7Diesel. It will only do 142 mph! All the s type models are very nice cars. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, Neil. Glad the problem has been sorted out. I am thinking of partial blanking plates on my s type 2.7D V6 as I periodically get Code P0402 when the warning light comes on. I have used the method of a good blast on the A38 and the Wynn's EGR cleaner when that doesn't work. Let us know how it goes. Regards, Peter.
  16. I would like to wish every one and their families a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Peter.
  17. Hi Sal, and welcome to the club. I am inclined to agree with Frank. I know little about Pentagon other than that they are a big car servicing company. Many members have found that big is not necessarily best. I would write to Pentagon and tell them exactly what has happened to your car AFTER they had had it in for service. It was perfectly alright till they got it in their hands, and it seems fairly obvious to me that they have not given it a test drive after service. There is a topic in the Jaguar Owners Lounge concerning recommended independent dealers and I do know that there is a very good independent Jaguar Specialist in Doncaster. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Ron. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Sharing experiences is a good thing and a learning curve for ll. Regards, Peter Lancastrian in exile.
  19. Nice colour too, Keith. The same as mine! Peter.
  20. Hi Lance, and Welcome to the Club. Mike has given you a good site to go for. I updated my 2005/6 provided for my 2007 s type from a site called Satnav udates, but the y appear not to be operating at the moment, but the disc was the last one for the s type and it was a 2013 disc and cost £29 + p%p. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Ian, I hope you get it sorted out. There is a saying "Measure twice, cut once" --- some things are always worth checking. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Chris, Try the David Manners Group. They have a good website and I have used them several times. I have also used Breakeryard who will try to source your part from the various car breakers across the country. I have used them on several occasions. Let us know your opinion, Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome to the Club, Keith. There are a great number of good and friendly people around here. You will enjoy your S Type, and sharing experiences is a big plus for the members of the club. Regards, Peter.
  24. There is a great diversity amongst main dealers. I am lucky to have had two very good ones. Trevor has been lied to, which is unforgiveable. Peter.
  25. Hi Malcolm and welcome to the Club. I think Mike has probably given the right answer. I had a couple of guesses, but my S type is one of the last few made so I have not had that experience. Regards, Peter.
