  1. Order placed, Mike. [With VAT and postage £52] I will get my mechanic to fit it, as I don't get oily hand any more. Thanks, Peter
  2. Hi Trevor, If there was an engine malfunction such as a sticky valve or a blocked EGR valve the engine warning light would come on, and you would need a code scanner to find out exactly what is wrong. I don't know whether the dealer has given you a warranty but if not the Sale of Goods act [i think] states that the goods should be of merchantable quality and the dealer would be required to repair/replace/refund. If however there was something in the contract saying "as seen" you might have an argument. An engine running rough could be one of quite a few things --- hopefully it cold be just something that a Terraclean will solve, Good luck Peter.
  3. Thanks, Mike. It has happened 4 times in the last 11 months, all at very inconvenient times. The Chancellor has just sent me £200 to keep me warm in the winter, so I will invest some of it to keep me from being out messing with the battery. Cheers, Peter.
  4. I got code P0402 on Saturday. There is a product from Wynns that is supposed to clean the EGR valves, which I had already got from Halfords when I last got the warning light. It seems to work. You get the engine up to normal operating temperature, take out the air filter, and give short bursts into the air intake with the engine on tickover. It will eventually start to race a bit and make an exaggerated knocking. You then need to get the engine up to about 1400 revs and continue the process. It will give bursts of acceleration periodically which may alarm the other person with their foot on the accelerator. When you have run out of the spray, switch off the engine, and then switch on. _ the warning light should have gone. Peter.
  5. Infuriating! The message came on just when the grandchildren had got into the car when picking them up from school in Lichfield. More infuriating was the fact that my spanners had gone astray somewhere in the boot. Granddaughter advised that it happened three weeks ago when I parked in the same place. Why have Jaguar not put in a switch which disconnects the battery rather than me having to root around in the dark? And why do I need a different spanner for the live and the earth?
  6. Welcome to the Club, John. It sounds like some faulty connections somewhere. I am not an electrical expert, but there are others who are. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi James, I think there must be a bit of water ingress. Car washes and an electric fault together point in the same direction. I suggest a quirt of WD40 around the area of the connections. Regards, Peter.
  8. I was so pleased with the Terraclean on my S type 2.7D that I bought my son a service on his 13 year old Skoda Octavia. The service is very beneficial to diesels. Peter.
  9. Hi Trevor, I have had tow bars on half a dozen cars, and the fitter never had any problems, so I would conclude he won't have any with an x type. Peter.
  10. Hi Raz, and welcome to the club. I don't know the XF fob, but the S Type is quite easy. But if it is under warranty, I would let your dealer do it if is doesn't cost you anything, Regards, Peter.
  11. Charlie, The Rover had a few bits that were very good. The carpets were really lush, but the retaining clips were of poor design. The adjustable seat supports on the front seats were brilliant as was the instrumentation with a proper clock rather a digital display. I did 122k miles with only a couple of minor problems with the K series V6. Peter.
  12. That is goo news, Phillip. Could you post their name and address on the list of independent Garages on the Jaguar Owners Lounge which will be of assistance to quite a few local members. Regards, Peter.
  13. I love my Jaguar S Type. Following the principle of never buying anything till it has been fully tested, I got an s type at the end of its production run. It is a great car. I bought a Rover Sterling 1999 plate at the very end of its production run, all the bells and whistles and kept it for eleven and a half years, Peter.
  14. The Duke of Lancaster is the Queen, Charlie. We Lancastrians never settle for second best. Ready for dinner soon, just cocktails, dinner jacket and black tie, and Moules Mariniere, followed by potted Morecambe Bay shrimps with brown toast, tiger prawns and salad, washed down with a bottle of Pinot grigio, and after that a glass of mulled wine. We have to keep up standards! Peter.
  15. Hi Trevor, On a close up of the picture I think it is an earlier model, but I have posted where it is on my car. Regards, Peter. PS, if we win the lottery I will get my wife one of those Mercs! Beautiful car!
  16. Hi Peter, Welcome to the Club. Look on the driver's side on the left side of footwell at about knee height, and you will see it. Once found never forgotten! Let me know when you find it! Regards, Peter. PS. Our cars could have been next to each other on the production line.
  17. My satnav on the touch screen is relatively basic, but I rather like it. I think that pressing the wrong butt can get you where you don't want to be. I took me the wrong way once in Leeds, but I do know the geography pretty well up North and in the Midlands -- in fact in most of the UK. Lancaster in a nice city -- the Duke of Lancaster owns it and quite a bit of the land around there too. The Duke is the only female Duke in the UK, and the title goes back to about 1066. as the UK didn't have Duke till then. Peter.
  18. I don't have a name for the car, but my Satnav is called Doris --- she is very polite. My previous satnav was Imelda, as she sounded a bit like a stern Irish Nun. Peter.
  19. My first car was a Triumph Herald in 1965 which died in 1968 of terminal rust plus electrical failures. I serviced it every 25k miles and it had 99k on the clock when I took all the good bits out and took the rest to the tip. I had been a biker before that and had one of the first 6 Honda Dreams in the UK, and also a Triumph T100 which blew up on what was then known as the Preston by-pass on the 12th June 1964. Peter.

Hi Trevor, I am thinking of doing that on my s type 2.7D when it goes in for service in May. I will need the ones with the small hole in. I have had several EGR warnings -- probably a sticky valve -- and I have usually cured by a blast on the A38. There is a spray at Halfords which apparently can clean the valves. I bought one but the blast cured it so it is still in the boot. Apparently all you do is get the engine up to operating temperature, remove the air filter and spray down the air intake. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Archie, You can download one from the internet free, but if you can't find it via google, and if you have the touch screen, I can copy mine and send it to you. Regards, Peter.
  22. 123.9 pence a litre at my local Shell garage, Charlie. How can anyone afford petrol in Scotland at £118.9 a litre I don't know. I make sure that my longer runs are always for something useful -- visiting --- trips out for leisure etc. Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Bob. I would try to google a site called "Classic Cars" and see what it throws up. Also I would try just to see what is out there by just a general enquiry ---- E Type Jaguar wanted ----- or words to that effect. Failing success try to convince you wife that an S Type 4.2 litre is one of the fastest cars Jaguar has ever produced. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Trevor, Frank is probably correct. I was going to suggest a Terraclean which is rather good on diesels, and will give the fuel system a good clean. I had it done on my S type 2.7 D and it made the world of a difference. Regards. Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Trevor. Running rough could be quite a few things. What engine is in your car? Different answers for diesel and petrol up to a point. Regards, Peter.
