  1. Welcome to the Club, Tom. There is a list of independent garages in the forum "Jaguar Owners Lounge" and I can remember on in the Manchester area being recommended. The XF is a great car and a worthy successor to the S Type. It sounds like you have a good one, too. I think you will enjoy this friendly club. Regards, Peter.
  2. I towed a caravan for 20 years, only selling it 3 years ago, and really enjoyed after years of camping and other types of holiday.. My wife thought I was getting too old to keep on doing the odd chores which are a part of owning a touring caravan. Yesterday she said she missed it!! Peter.
  3. At a guess, The age of the engine and the cars that it powered, I think that it could be a 2.5 Litre V6. I could be very wrong, though, as the 8L number says that it could also be the 4.2 Litre. Peter.
  4. Just a little bit more, Mike. Jaguar produced more than 700,000 engines that powered the XK150 and other cars. I have tried to find engine numbers for these engines, but so far without success. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Mike. You car sounds very nice, and we hope some pics can find their way on here. The question you ask about engine numbers is not one I can answer, but there is a company in the UK called Suffolk Classic Cars who might know something and it could be worth looking at their website. Good Luck Regards Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, Paul. The XF is a very nice car and Indigo Blue goes well with it. [my s type is the same colour] The club is a very friendly place to be with a lot of helpful people around. Regards, Peter.
  7. Thanks, Adrian, but my wife and I will be fairly time limited. But I will be trying to organise a meet sometime u in the new year. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Adrian, Glad you are getting something organised to cure the problem -- I will be going North a week on Saturday and will be passing through Warrington to take my cousin to lunch --- so I will look out for an E-Type. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Stuart, Welcome to the Club. Main dealers do charge a lot for labour, and most members have found that independent garages - in my case a main dealer trained mechanic - do a very good job and charge half as much. If you have a good garage who you trust, stick with them. Meanwhile enjoy you Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  10. A friend of mine bought a beautiful MG about 1963. Gleaming Red with red upholstery. with It only had one point against it and that was that the engine had been replaced. The original 2 litre engine was now gone and in its place was a 998cc Morris engine from a scrapped Morris Minor. It went OK but not very fast! Peter.
  11. Hi David and welcome to the club. It won't be your last Jaguar -- when I bought my first I was told that, and it is true. This is a friendly club and there are a lot of people with great experience, and exchanging experiences is what the club is about. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Adrian, I have found a very easy way to check you speedometer. We went to Tesco this morning and on three occasions we passed through those speed warning signs. My speedo read 30 when I was doing 30 and 20 when I was doing twenty. They must have them in Warrington ---- apparently they have a Rugby League team, of sorts, who play at a Stadium known as the Geri Halliwell. Regards, Peter.
  13. Visitors have now gone back to London. Also the Drawing room [so called because that's where the grandchildren used to so their drawing when they were younger] is under decoration. Carpet getting removed, etc etc. Peter.
  14. Ford Anglia, Charlie. I can just read the name on the bonnet. Peter.
  15. Just noticed your post, Brian. Your switches could be a bit dirty or loose. I also go for the cheapest option first, and would try the WD40. Failing tha I would start looking at all the connections. Regards, Peter.
  16. I don't buy bits from main dealers, Trevor. You can get genuine Jaguar parts from various sources and much cheaper than going to a main dealer. There is an advantage living in Birmingham, where there are quite a few accessory shops who will get the genuine parts at a third of the price Jaguar charge. Peter.
  17. Hi Tony, I think that you have been treated very badly to put it mildly. I have only bought three cars in the last few years due to having had company cars for 30 years. Two I bought from the same dealership which handles multiple makes of car, and neither were new. The treatment I got was quite superb and both cars, one a Rover Sterling, and the other an X Type Jaguar were both presented very well and the salesman was brilliant, even presenting my wife with a Jaguar Umbrella. The last car I bought I tried to use the same dealer, as I wanted an s type, but they had none -- they are a franchised dealer rather than a main dealer -- and I went to Stratstone -- who are the biggest Jaguar dealer in the UK. While they were not as good as Colliers [my wife never got an umbrella] they did present the car well, and before the warranty ran out they did a full check on all of my niggles and rectified all of the issues. That is a big plus, but these dealers are in Motown, as it were, and there are many people in the city who know a lot about cars and quite a few have connections in the motor trade. It does appear that the dealers who cause most of the problems are not in an area such as Birmingham and I do know that people come a long way to get their cars through Colliers, the first one mentioned. I hope that you will get some satisfaction from Jaguar. What you must do, though, is to warn off potential buyers from this company. Regards, Peter.
  18. I have never had it, but my daughter in law has it. My son thinks it is restrictive, too. Peter.
  19. Hi Andy, I have just had a look at a site in the USA called GTcarlot.com You can find any colour for any car, and I have looked up a 2002 4 litre in Aspen Green Metallic. From the picture it seems to look grey, but in the sunlight there seems to be a green metallic element. My S Type is Indigo Blue, which looks just like any dark blue car, but in the sun a more brilliant blue shines through. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Andy. Chipex is the name the site which I mentioned. Worth having a look at. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Tony, and welcome to the club. I do not have dynamic mode on my S Type 2.7D, but just an "S" button which gives a lot of power, but is easily controllable. I think that your car is acting quite properly but I would hesitate in using it too much during the winter. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Andrew, There is a site that I will look up. All you need to do is put in your VIN number and it will tell you what the colour is. That is probably the only site that you can get Jaguar Paint from. Of course, you could go to a Jaguar main Dealer ------------ Regards, Peter
  23. Hi Adrian, There is one in Manchester worth checking out, It has has a couple of good reviews, Homer and Hudson Ltd, and another one in Stoke 0n - Trent -- AWJ Automotive. E type specialists are hard to come by -- as are E Types! Good luck. Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Dave. The club is a friendly one and I hope you enjoy being a member, and exchange experiences. My sons went to school in Chesterfield -- St Mary's --- we lived in Dronfield Woodhouse for 12 years. Regards, Peter.
  25. Simple, Trevor, I didn't know I was in a 40 area -- temporary signs. That is why the speed camera checked my speed! Peter.
