  1. Hi Noel and welcome to the club. There is a fuse and I think it is in the boot fuse box, F46, 10 amp. Let us know if that is successful. If it isn't try a squirt of WD40 9 in the offending area.. Cheap and sometimes works. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, Raymond. I think Charlie is quite correct. Jaguar tell you that it is better for the car to keep the Climate control on all the time. I get a "Service Required" message coming up, but I know the car has just had one. What it means is that Jaguar service the car just over a year ago. I will plug in the diagnostic reader to abolish it when the reader decides to recognise the car again. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Kevin, I have heard of gearbox oil changes alone costing about £275 + at a main dealer. When I had a motor cycle [0ver 50 years ago] I used to change the oil every two weeks. Such are the advances in oil technology some oils [Castrol Magnatec, for instance] are guaranteed for 20k miles. You have got a very good price. Regards, Peter.

  5. Hi Robert, I would be inclined to leave the battery in the car, if you are garaging it at your own home, and charge it once a month. On the question of the paintwork bubble, there are two courses of acton I would choose from, without seeing it, of course. The first is to sand it down, give it a good undercoat and repaint, and the second is to take it to a good body shop and get it done professionally. Peter.

  8. I only have money because I am married. The best financial advisor I have ever had is my wife of 47 years. If I want something I ask , and if the answer is no that's it. But when I wanted a Jaguar, the answer was Yes on both occasions. Top lady! Peter.

  10. Hi Kevin, I bought a late model S type with 48k on the clock, so I hope to stay clear of main dealers for a bit! 124k is not a big mileage for that engine. Are they doing an oil change on the gearbox? Peter.
  11. Most bits of cars are made by the same manufacturers. I was a bit involved in the Automotive industry with my job and found that there are quite a few companies make engine and ancillary parts for all the big manufacturers. Peter.
  12. I bought a fault code reader, but it stopped connecting with the car for some reason. I will do as Stan says and jiggle it around a bit. Peter.
  13. Terence, I think Jaguar [and other car manufacturers] do build in a "Dealer Only" policy. Rover used to do it on some parts. I used to know a few breakers when I had my Sterling to get round the problem at a quarter of the cost. I put up with "Service Required" rather than pay £69 at the local dealership. Peter.

  18. Welcome to the club, Dale. I would have guessed at some of the things you have had done. I did have a rumble in my Rover Sterling [auto] at around the same speed, but found out when I changed the front tyres that there was wear in the track rod ends --- I don't get oily hands any more, but it cured it. The Rover was front when drive, of course. Peter.

  22. Welcome to the Club, Geovani. It does appear to me that you should not be opening the door with the key but with the remote control, which will switch off the built in immobiliser. Check that the remote control is working and will open and close the door. If it doesn't you will have to get the key fob reprogrammed by a main dealer. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi David, I have heard a complaint from somewhere in the past that the ECU responds to the information from a sensor rather than a problem in the engine -- which it is supposed to do. The conclusion must be, that if the engine is running properly,then the sensor is unable to send the right message because the sensor itself is faulty. I had an issue yesterday with the oil in my 2.7 D engine. The dipstick was saying that there was too much oil. My mechanic checked it out, took out some oil, dipped the oil again and found that there was an indication that there was still too much oil in, when we knew that there wasn't. There was no water in the oil,either. We concluded that the dipstick design, which is rather curious was dragging up oil when it was being taken out, and so giving a false reading. Regards, Peter.

  25. Hi Chrissy, Finding a cheap cure for rust has puzzled the scientists for years. As a former steel worker getting car manufacturers to use galvanised steel was an achievement that took about 50 years. My first car was a 1962 Triumph Herald. I bought it in 1965 and had to scrap it in 1968 when only 6 tears old due to terminal rust. Regards, Peter.
