  1. My S type [2007] has the antiquated key to start the car. Position 1 lets the radio etc come on without starting the engine. I don't know why Jaguar changed it. But there will be other XF drivers who might know. Peter.
  2. We need a few more names on the list --- I intend to go on that date as the weather will be fine, Local Jaguar owners wanted to welcome those coming from a long way away. Peter.
  3. I have heard that, too, Trevor. Apparently dark green used to be the worst colour for accidents. Our company cars were all the same colour, and in 1971 we all had Dark Green Metallic. Then someone said that bright yellow was the colour with the least number of accidents, so we all had to have yellow in 1972. There was no difference in the number of shunts. Eventually the powers that be allowed us to choose our preferred colour. Peter.
  4. There is one sometimes seen in the West Midlands. A friend of mine restored a Mk1 in the early sixties which was white. Quite a rare colour, though. Peter.
  5. Jaguar Owners Lounge, Paul. You have a very nice car, and if anything jars in its appearance you have got to get it right for your satisfaction. Peter.
  6. Hi Simon, I have had a look at the X Type handbook, but the one I found by googling said very little about the CD Changer. When I was changing some discs of my S type on one occasion they would not work. I must have had a senior moment as I had put them in the wrong way! Otherwise, I must think it would be connections/fuse. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the club, Malcolm. You have a very nice looking car, which has quite a good turn of speed as well as economy. Carry on enjoying. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Simon. I had problems trying to pair my phone with a 2005 X type and came to the conclusion that there was no phone connection. Has you car got the touch screen? If so, use the Audio button which makes it easy. If not, I will search my memory of the x type for a solution. Meanwhile, enjoy your car -- The Jaguar experience is a bit unique. Regards, Peter.
  9. Good idea, Jonathan.
  10. Power to the wheels, Trevor. The chassis design is also taken into account.
  11. Yes, Trevor, but they are on an XKR with 5 litres of supercharged power, and not an X type with a 2.2 litres diesel engine at the front. Peter.
  12. Yes, Trevor. My Rover Sterling was a Director's Car. It was bought by a company which then leased it back to the MD of the Main Dealer who "sold" it to the Leasing company that leased it back to him. Then sold to me after 8 months at half the price that it originally cost. I think tax had something to do with it. Peter.
  13. Sometimes you get a Friday night car, and sometimes you get a "Foreman's Friend." My Uncle Frank was a Charge Hand Fitter at the Ford [now Jaguar] Halewood Factory at Halewood. He once had a Ford Escort 1.3L exactly the same as mine except that it had a top notch radio, the Carpets were from an Escort Ghia, as were the seats and other trim. And he got a 10% discount on price, and the cost was deducted from his wages without interest. When a car goes onto the production line it's final destination is known, and if it is destined for someone influential that is known also. Peter.
  14. Hi Brian and Wilber G, I have never seen the x type with 18" wheels, I am afraid. Bur bigger wheels do not always give the best ride. Peter.
  15. Hi Steve, There is a topic on which members can advertise, but no real classified ads -- I don't think the club needs one, personally. But you will find a lot of people who know a lot about cars and who love the Jaguar experience. Peter. P.S. Look in Jaguar Market Place where you will see Jaguars for Sale -- but these are members' cars, rather tan classified Ads.
  16. Welcome to the club, Ricki. It is great to see a young man appreciating Jaguar Cars. I think your friends could be a bit jealous! Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi again, Brian. I have had a very quick look around and see quite a wide divergence on prices. The cars I have seen advertised are usually runners with MOTs with prices ranging from £5000 to £35,000, although there are several with lowish mileages advertised around £8000. The lowest mileage I have seen was 3700. I hope this helps. Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I don't know the value for such a rare car --- there cannot be many that old still around. There are enthusiasts who will be interested, and there are some dealers who could well see your father's car as a money earner for them. I will have a look around and get back to you. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Brian, I had a 2005 X Type [2.5 AWD Petrol] with the same specification wheels. The X Type came with two wheel options, 16" wheels and 17" wheels, and I have not come across an 18" wheel option, so I would not be inclined to go along that route, and remain with 17" wheels. There is much opinion about the more comfortable ride, and some say the smaller wheels give a better ride. You can get the wheels refurbished and thee is a company which gives a discount to JOC Premium members. There are also several mobile wheel refurbishers and a bit of googling will throw up one in your area. The X type is a very nice looking car and personally I think, that as Jaguar has designed a car with 16" & 17" wheels, I would stick with what Jaguar thought was best. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Dan, I had a 2005 x type and my 'phone would not pair with they car either, although I din't have the touchscreen system.. Eventually I came to the conclusion that the phone was not compatible and gave up. The is a topic on Jaguar Owners Lounge giving recommendations for independent Jaguar specialists which is worth looking at. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Amanda, Good point! I went to an air show at RAF Waddington a few weeks ago and had to park in a muddy field. The next day I took a bucket full of mud from the mud flaps and wheel arches. That was bad enough. I don't envy the clearing out of cement. Wy wife had a paint protection system applied to our S Type [indigo with Dove Interior] before we took delivery and it seems to work. It cost £300, but I believe you can do it yourself if you have a day or so to spare. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Randy, sand welcome to the Club. There are Club members in countries all over the world, and all enjoying the unique Jaguar experience. Just share your experiences with the very helpful and knowledgeable member here. Regards, Peter.
  23. I have driven automatics extensively in the USA and when I retired I bought a Rover Sterling -- all the bells and whistles and automatic as standard. I kept it for 11 years before I bought a Jaguar with a manual gearbox, which took some time to get used to. My s type which I bought when my first jaguar was stolen is an automatic -- it was a bit like coming home. Peter.
  24. You get many once a year caravanners in the West Country, Charlie. Good caravanners travel on midweek days, and don't hold anyone up. Peter.
  25. Absolutely fantastic, Roy.
