  1. Welcome to the Club, Jonathan. There are a lot of friendly and helpful people who share their experiences --- which are very useful. The S Type is a great car. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi John and Sue, Have a good journey, and just enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Leslie, I have read quite a few Which Reports on various topics, and Which do cover a very wide range of things and run many surveys. However, when a survey is done there is always a percentage variant which some surveys discount as the lower the number surveyed the good surveys could well be written by an employee and the bad by a very articulate but nitpicky customer. If only 10 people are survey the figure could well come out at 50% satisfaction. The What Car survey is taken from 150,000 people which is extremely high and is very reliable, and I would be inclined to go with that. George has also given a recommendation which also tallies with the driving experience of other members who have bought the XF. I would also go with George on the choice of engine, as I feel that the two smaller engines slightly under power the expectation of a Jaguar Driver. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Richard, Is that the Terraclean working --- I am looking for the magic 50 mpg. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, MM. No apologies needed --- I hadn't seen it! I hope you enjoy the club -- lot of friendly who will help with issues that you might have, Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Steve, The DPF will not bother you at all. It is us old fogies who only do 3k in 6 months that must take care. Peter.
  7. Thanks, Richard. I have heard of them.
  8. Welcome to the Club, Wayne. I think you will have to go to the main dealer with your car documents to get a new key fob, as it needs programming. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Richard, I think that you will need a longer run to notice the difference. My car had a 25 mile round trip with a bit of a bash during the journey. I did notice a difference when I put my foot down. A couple of weeks later I had a longer journey a I really notice the difference in mpg. As a point of interest, where did you have the Terraclean done? Regards, Peter.
  10. Steve, Have a look at the DENSO site. There does appear to be XF updates available but the prices are in Euros. regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Steve, I used my satnav Updates, but as you say, they are down. I have looked around and there seems to be nothing other than Jaguar at around £170 on the market. You are only 3 years behind the most recent discs, so I would hang on another 6 months to see if Sat Nav updates come back. I got an update 9 months ago for £30 which is the latest update for my S type, and possibly the last one. Regards, Peter
  12. Welcome to the Club, Steve. Enjoy the Jaguar experience -- I was told I would never buy another make of car. Dead right. Regards, Peter.
  13. You have had a good experience, Roy, with that dealer, who is doing what Main dealers should be doing. I have been using a mobile mechanic for all work done on my cars ever since I retired 15 years ago, without complaints. Having had company cars for 30 years, with a proviso that they must go for all servicing at Main Dealers I have come across a few very bad ones with who I have had to take drastic measures, one of which was block the entrance to his premises until he rectified the fault that was still there after the car had spent three full days with him on three occasions. By the same token, I have come across some very good ones. I have used on particular main dealer to buy several cars from and would be inclined to go back there. When I bought my S Type I did go to that dealer but they could not get the one I wanted. Another very big main dealer was able to get one for me, and were very good. You can only go on experiences you have had. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Mick, When I bought my S type, the salesman did mention the DPF. I had also seen an article in a newspaper that a driver of an newish XF was told by the main agent that he drove too slowly which was the reason why his car was continually going into limp home mode. I also knew a mechanic [in the sixties] who used to work for MANWEB --Electricity Board -- that when a certain lorry came in for routine service one of the mechanics used to take it on to the Chester by pass to give it a good hours blast as the particular driver never went over 30 mph. I am possibly a traditionalist but I do believe that when a good engine is built it has been made by experts and needs little or no improvement. The 2.7 diesel engine used by Jaguar and Land Rover was designed by Peugeot and Ford as a joint venture and is a rather splendid piece of machinery. Regards, Peter.
  15. Roy, Elgar when in Worcestershire is very fitting, too.
  16. You are correct, Roy. I would never advise to remove the DP Filter, or by pass the EGR valves. Keeping them clean is not that difficult.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Chris. The S Type is a great car and I never get fed up of driving mine. Regards, Peter.
  18. Yes, Trevor, a good blast occasionally does help. One of the things you have to do with cars which is enjoyable. Peter.
  19. Wynns produce a DPF cleaner which you can buy at Halfords for £9.99 for a 325ml bottle. Just a fuel additive. The Discount Card will get you 15% off. Peter.
  20. Trevor, The Terraclean cleans up the engine, glow plugs, injectors etc, and I am also told that the EGR valves will benefit too. I do know that there is also a service which will also clean out the DP Filters. I had a problem with the EGR valves which I appeared to rectify by a few miles and a blast with the "S" button pressed down. As Roy says, the message disappeared the next time I started the engine. But the big issue with the DPF is prevention rather than cure. I will check on the service that regenerates the DPF and get back. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Mick, I am guessing that it is a reset that is required. I don't know what the cost of having the filter cleaned, but I do believe it could be worthwhile. I have a little chore that I do at least once a month --- Taking my S Type [2.7D] out for a 40 mile run -- it just needs to be over about 35 mph about once a month, which appears sufficient. My neighbour has a Mazda 6 that kept dropping into limp home more when he was coming back from his house in France, so he a DPF removed after several such experiences. Regards, Peter.
  22. Good advice re the DPF, Roy. I had my 2.7 D Terracleaned a couple of months ago and I am now getting just over 32 round the town , and just over 40 on longer runs with 49.2 mpg achieved on a 70 miles run with only 20 miles on the M6. I read that article Trevor, and sighed with relief that the only time I use the car in London is when we visit our daughter who is eel outside the congestion charge area. The emissions test on modern diesel is quite stringent, and it is the older ones -- vans and lorries -- which cause Boris to cough. Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Roy. All I can say is "WOW!' Trevor will talk to you about Aston Martins. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Trevor, The absence of spare wheels is an annoyance to me. My last Jaguar had a spacesaver, but this one has a proper spare wheel on a matching alloy wheel, which is good, although the design needed to accommodate it does reduce boot space which is surprising small for a big car. The rear wheel drive also contributes to that as well. But I am not bothered about that, as I really enjoy my S Type. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Trevor, Some models of cars seem to get stone chips more than others, and whiles it is not how they are driven but often how the cars coming towards them are being driven. I have had in the past two smashed windscreens caused by cars coming towards me throwing up stones on roads that had been recently surfaces. Slightly off topic, our roads are a bit less busy -- it often takes 30 minutes to get into the town centre - just two miles - between 8.00am and 9.00am. But wheile they are all down in the West Country it is much easier. I am always up early, Trevor. Every month I have a day more of life than those who don't get up early. Regards, Peter.
