The XF was the car that followed and replaced the s type, and although there were more modern changes it still had the "Grace, Space and Pace" that was the remark by Bill Lyons when the first medium saloons came off the production line. I have the s type which is a beautiful car to drive, and all its qualities are with the XF . Regards, Peter.

Hi Barrie and welcome to the club. I am not a mechanic, - just a driver of 60 years -- so as you car is an auto [like mine] I would be inclined to put the car into second gear and see if it moves gently away, then use third gear. I would also suggest that you should try reversing. If that works OK I would guess that the auto box is not selecting the gear on start. Let me know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Hi Peregrine and welcome to the club. The s type is a great car, a smooth ride and speed when you need it. My s type [2.7D auto] had a stainless steel exhaust system fitted in the factory as an optional extra. My car came off the production line in March 2007 and it is still the same exhaust. Hi Rob, and your and your Dad are welcome to the club. The S type is a very nice car and in my opinion a future classic. Selling one is sometimes a bit sad. I think that there could well be someone in the club who might want to buy what I guess is a car that is all looked after. I suggest that you could put on a photo and details of its life -- I guess it has been well looked after and serviced regularly. And a P.S. -- Congratulations to your Dad for driving till 90 -- I am given some encouragement to carry on -- I am only 86! Regards, Peter.

My S type in on the driveway in the rain. In the last two months I have not been able to drive around in it dues to the restrictions place on driving. However I have seen many s types in the 7 years I have had mine. I do know that there were roughly about 350,000 made in the 8 years of manufacture, with about 150,000 going to the USA and Canada , Europe, and Australia, with JOC members from all these owners abroad. I do see quite a few s types in the West Midlands which is not surprising as that is where they were made, and I had a few waves when I have been travelling in Dorset, Cornwall, and, Richard, I have parked next to its almost twin in a Garden Centre in Warwickshire. Hi Matthew, and welcome to the club. Jaguars are great cars and I wanted a Mk2 in 1963 when I saw my friend refurbishing a Mark1. A limited amount in my back pocket and then 29 years of company cars prevented me. In 2013 I got the S Type which I still have and enjoy immensely. I read up on reviews how the S type performed and I would suggest you did the same with both the XF and the XJ. Both are great cars, but I have driven neither so I can only go on what has been said by other. You have the time to do so, so good luck and happy hunting! Regards, Peter.

Hi Liam. I think it could do that. I think the engine in your car is the same as mine. I have had a stutter caused by the EGR valves which, like the DPF, is part of the exhaust system. Regards, Peter.

Hi Mark, The moderne cars needs lots of very technical knowledge -- It has passed me over the years from The Triumph Herald which was easy to maintain in 1965! My mechanic is up to date like yourself. I have the 2,7 diesel, and I agree with you about the electric handbrake which I have now mastered -- I keep my battery well charged. I was born and lived in Widnes for 32 years before emigrating to Wales, then Derbyshire - I worked in Sheffield - and then here in Sutton Coldfield. My wife is from Liverpool, born in Scotland road and after the war went to live in Huyton. We left Merseyside 53 years ago! Regards, Peter.

I had a Rover Sterling for 11 years. I now have had an Jaguar S type for 7 years. I prefer the S Type. Peter.
