Connecting my mobile in my Xtype
Hi Karen, and welcome to the club. I had a 2005 x type and was unable to paid my 'phone via Bluetooth. Unlike you, I gave up. There are some members in the club who do understand this electronic wizardry, and who will probably offer some suggestions. Meanwhile, enjoy your jaguar. Regards, Peter.

Weekend in the Garage with my XKR!
Hi Trevor, You have about 18 months to go. My Jaguar Warranty handbook does not mention the compulsory maintenance by a Jaguar Main dealer, but stipulates a VAT registered garage and use Jaguar parts. The Sale of Goods act of 1979 comes into play if the car is faulty in any way, but that would have come to light by now, anyway. I have wandered around contract law and the majority conclusion is that if you have your car maintained by a VAT registered garage and the maintenance schedule is followed using genuine Jaguar parts/recommended oils etc, then the warranty remains valid. This will have to be shown in the service book. I would reply to your dealer and tell them that they are wrong. And if your wife thinks you are turning into a grumpy old man, she should have words with my wife about what grumpy old men are like. Regards, Peter.

Weekend in the Garage with my XKR!
Hi Trevor, I have heard that as well, but it has been in cars that have long warranties -- usually those makes that offer 7 year warranties. How many years have Jaguar given you? Or I wonder if the letter was written due to your mentioning that you are not having it serviced there. It might well be worth writing a letter to Jaguar. I am going to root out my Jaguar Warranty handbook and brush up my little knowledge of contract law. Regards, Peter.

Hi Rich, I did hear too that Land Rover and some Ford parts, too, are the same. I am quite grateful that my S Type just lets me do a weekly check with a tyre pressure gauge. Regards, Peter.

Keyless Entry......how far
Hi Charlie, While most nations have elements of displeasure before showing signs of action, such as the English being "Slightly peeved", or "very displeased", the Scots only have one course of action when someone nasty occurs --- "Let's get the so and sos." --- which is why they have been the front line regiments in the British army. I would think Flag of St Andrew would be enough. Peter.

Hi Keith, I have exactly the same experience, with people taking sneaky walk round in the supermarket car park. And there are plenty of Jaguars round here, too. Peter.

Towbars
Sounds great, Margaret. Brings back memories for me of our caravanning days. I have been advised to use best quality fuel, too. Regards, Peter.

Air con leak
Hi Johno, I must say that I have never heard this one before either. Usually such pipes are rather strong, and stones not that sharp. I would be inclined to look for an independent garage, or an air con specialist. Regards, Peter.

Keyless Entry......how far
Hi Trevor, Within 10 miles I can access the M5, the M6, and the M42. The M6 toll is 4 miles away and the A38 [fast dual carriageway] just a mile away. Thieves like a quick getaway and I am told that they come from the London area to get the rich pickings from the best suburban areas within the Midlands. That is also one of the reasons why insurance is so high. Fifty yards away from my house there is a large private estate -- all the houses are quite old with much land around them -- and are the desirable areas for professional footballers, rich lawyers, and a few pop stars to acquire houses. When we lived in a Derbyshire village you could leave your car unlocked with the windows down in the hot weather. It was an eye opener when work sent me down here in 1982, and my choice of location was in an area where there were good schools and close to my office, which was only 500 yards away. The Police locally has an great emphasis on the movement of criminals, and that is the major reason for the introduction of the Central Motorway Crime Unit which covers lots of counties. The criminals try to keep ahead of the law, though. Regards, Peter.

Keyless Entry......how far
Hi Richard, Car security is a very important topic, and personal opinion depends a lot on where you live. The police round here tell us that this area has been targeted by car thieves from well outside the city, with a sophisticated operation in place to avoid Security Cameras. There are none within a 2 mile radius of my house and thieves are thought to put cars on trailers and cover them to avoid numberplate recognition. Three cars have been stolen in my road in the last year, two of them by breaking into a house and stealing the keys, and mine which involved blocking my drive and the accomplice waiting round the corner till I got out of the car to ask the driver in the blocking car to move, which he did while his accomplice jumped into my car and drove it off. The Police said I was lucky as there had been 4 similar instances where all four elderly drivers had been dragged out of their cars and beaten up before their cars had been driven off, and never recovered. I never take my keys out of my pocket until I am next to the car, even on my driveway. Peter.

Welcome to the Club Richard. I am not very good at the electronics bit, but I rarely use cruise control. There are many members who will assist on this issue. Regards, Peter.
