  1. Hi Gary, I have the growler badges on the wheels of my S type, but they are getting a bit worn. As I said before, Adamesh is worth looking at. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Justin, and welcome to the Club. The S Type is a great car and the engines in all the versions are really superb. I can see that you have done some research and are looking at the 4.2R version, which is the top model in the range and beloved by enthusiasts particularly in the USA. I have the Pensioners Version os the S Type, the 2.7 diesel and I can honestly say that it is the best car I have ever driven and I have been driving for over 50 years. There are not many 4.2Litre models around, but if you look at the main dealers sites you should be able to find one with a guarantee. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  3. It won't be too late, Graham. Just put DE55 5SH into your SatNav and look out for Jaguar Owner Club when you get there. I am sure Simon will post something when he sees this post. Regards, Peter --- who will be going up the A38 at 10.00 am tomorrow.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Gary. I have never owned the Sport Version, but I thought that there was a Growler badge built into to the Radiator Grille, and at the rear there would have been on the left side the "X Type" and on the right side "3.0". If you want to get those badges I think the best place to go would be Adamesh. But enjoy your car ! Peter.
  5. I think that you will have to go to a main dealer with your log book and other proof of ownership and they will rub their hands and reprogram it for you.
  6. Not Staff, just an Executive Director in charge of Supervision <_< Peter.
  7. Hi Jim, A very interesting post. I went to the classic car show at the NEC in Birmingham last year, just a 20 minute drive away and saw a lot of old cars which had been magnificently restored. Some where classic cars, and doe were modern classics, and some were rare cars. I put the last classification in because a rare car is probably one that survived rust, so to me a classic car is a model that brought something new to automotive manufacture, or a model that wrapped an older style of appearance round modern and innovative technology, and that is why I would include the S Type Jaguar a a future classic. I have stayed away from looking at the XK models, but I would defer to the opinion of those who do own and drive those beautiful cars. Jaguar is now entering a new era, and I wait and see what comes out from the new engine plant in Wolverhampton --- what innovation, in particular. I do think that there is a statement of intent by the Jaguar Owners that they see their cars being dominant in the automotive world, but I do hope that the idea of increasing the numbers manufactured does not mean that they will move away from originality and the style that has made Jaguar the marque that it is. Someone said that the Jaguar is an old man's car, but why does my son always want to get his hands on it!!. Regards to all, Peter.
  8. Thanks for the update, Brian. The glove box issue really needs you to have a look at what the inside of one of similar vintage, and then work out what needs to be done. There is a Charity Car meet in Alfreton in aid of St John's Ambulance Brigade on Sunday where quite a few Club Members will be there, and you could well find a Jaguar there to compare your with there, should you wish to cross the border into Derbyshire. Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Richard and Karen. You will find a lot of friendly and helpful people here, from those who are expert in all matters mechanical and those like me who doesn't get his hands oily any more. I have a 2.7 diesel which was replaced in the XF by the 3.0 litre diesel, which is still economical, but will still go like the Chariot of Jehu [Verily like the Wind] when given a bit of a push. Jaguars are very good towcars [i towed, but not with a Jaguar, for 20 years], and will tow mostly anything, other than the huge twin axle caravans, with ease. I think the best place to look for a suitable XK is a main dealer, as they will give a warranty. I bought by S Type from Stratstone who have a good website and will bring a car from the other side of the country if need be. My S type is Indigo Blue Metallic which was a nicer colour than the Grey one I first looked at on the internet. They rang me when the Blue one came into their showrooms, which was a nice touch. When I got my first Jaguar, an X Type, I was told that I would never drive another make of car, and when my X Type was carjacked I didn't even think of getting another make. You will find that the Jaguar will be a sedate drive when you want it to be, but when you put it into Sport mode with just a press of a button, it will be very quick indeed. Some drivers do seem to prefer the 17" wheels for a more comfortable ride, so it becomes a personal choice. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  10. Yes, Matthew, There are products good for cleaning and other good for polishing and feeding the leather. It does not take that long to do if you clean and polish the leather quite frequently. Peter.
  11. My local auto accessory shop, small but efficient, stock all the Autoglym Range, and if he has not got the one you want he will get it for you the same day. His prices are no dearer than Halfords and sometimes cheaper. The other day I search Halfords for the appropriate Windscreen wipers for my s type --- they didn't have them, but he got them with 4 hours and fitted them on the car in minutes. You can't beat your local car accessory shop and he recommends autoglym which is have used for years and it is not really that expensive. Peter.
  12. Nice colour, Trevor. Very suitable for those Devon roads. Regards Peter.
  13. Hi Trevor, Have you got that new smaller car yet? Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Michael. I am no expert in these complicated matters, but I do know that these sensors cost between £90 & £110. British Parts have them available, and there are probably some on ebay. There are members of the Club who are quite expert and who will be ready to assist. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Richard, The 2.2 diesel is a very economic engine, and is certainly more frugal than my 2.7 diesel which averages around 40 mpg with a mixture of runs. That is around 500 to the tank. Again, it depends how you drive, although the diesel needs a bit of strong driving now and then. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hope you can get there, Mick. 11.00 am gates will open and I believe we can all park together. Peter.
  17. Bucket and shampoo ready for Saturday wash and polish. Got to give her the first big clean of the year now that the rain seems to have stopped. The forecast for Sunday is good, and this postcode will be going into the SatNav --DE55 5SH. Peter.
  18. No Problems Charlie. The XK8 club will be formed on Thursday, when Trevor gets his insurance! Peter.
  19. Hi All, Putting on my Moderators hat, jauntily, I may add, there is a note at the bottom of the post that indicates gently that the post should redirect itself to Jaguar Insurance discussions. Possibly this rather important topic that has strayed in could be better discussed in the Lounge Forum which devotes itself to general subjects not connected with Jaguar. While I am aware, and I am guilty myself, that topics sometimes wander off somewhat, I am sure that everyone will cooperate. Regards, Peter.
  20. HI Justin, I am not an expert on the issues you have with your X type, but there are others who are. The automatic gearbox oil is supposed to last for the life of the car, but some owners are a bit more cynical and have suggested that a change of oil around 75k miles is beneficial. The dropping of revs seems to be something to do with ignition and a plug change could be indicated. Having said that, there are those more expert than myself who may have some similar experiences to yourself. Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the Club, Peter. The S type is a great car, both in looks and driving experience, and you will enjoy it. I have not had any experience of the perforated seats as on the Sport Model, but I do spend quite some time ensuring that the seats in my S type are kept clean and fed with a good leather maintenance product. I had a pack from Stratstone [also the first and third owners of my car] from Pure Guard, which I use to clean the leather and also some polish from Scotts. However, there is much opinion about other products, Megulars, Auto Glym etc all of which can usually be found at Halfords, but there is one common factor in all of them called "Hard Work". The leather seating in my S Type 2.7D SE is Dove Grey which I clean about every other month. and for a 7 year old car they still look very good. Regards Peter Lancastrian in Exile.
  22. Welcome to the club, Joseph. You will enjoy driving a Jaguar, and sometimes there will be an issue, as with any car, but there are many here who will help all they can. Regards Peter.
  23. Welcome to the Club, Andile. Mick has given you the most probable answer. I had the engine malfunction light on twice and a good run on the A 38 giving it a bit of a poke seemed to work. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Trevor, The City of Birmingham is one of those cities that carries about 15% premium and the fact that my car was carjacked last year also gets another £150 stuck on. Last year LV= insured me for £455, this year they quoted £654. So in comparison, Swift Cover [AXA] at £470 is pretty good. Peter. Just back from London.
  25. I got my insurance yesterday after trawling the internet for a week. LV= have not sent me a renewal quote yet, SAGA quoted £909 without my son on the policy as he is under 50, and the two best were Tesco at £540 and Swiftcover at £470. So Swiftcover [AXA] it is. I have not included a courtesy car on the policy for logical reasons. The local transport is very good and both 'bus and trains are free within the county for us pensioners. I have paid about £30 a year for a courtesy car for 15 years since I retired and the company car went, and logic says that if I actually need a car I could hire one. Peter.
