  1. And that must be the reason why I never got it in my 2005 x type SE, Thanks Brian.
  2. Hi Rob, Trevor Catt will probably read this post, and he is the one to contact for the sticker. You will really enjoy your X type, and driven carefully on a long run you can get about 35 mpg. I had one for 12,000 miles and loved it. It was Radiance Red in showroom condition. I had just put on two new Pirellis and filled it up with petrol when two scroats carjacked it off my drive. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Brian, I have just checked with my owner's manual and a keypad should come up on the touch screen. The manual I have is titled IN CAR TELEPHONE. Luckily, a full set of Owner's Manuals came with my car and the publication details for the above are JJM 10 31 99 552 and was published in June 2005. Check if your manual is the same. My Manual covers the X type, the S Type and the XJ. There is a topic on the Forum titled Bluetooth Connectivity Guide which also could be useful. I don't know how to check if the module is fitted but that could be the only other reason. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Rob. There is not a lot of the Mondeo in your Jaguar. The platform is Mondeo based and the gearbox is Mondeo. The story goes that the first X type were practically all of the Mondeo Ghia but it didn't sell. The management asked Ford could they build a Jaguar and the real x type was born. The 2.5L V6 was also in All Wheel Drive -- holds the road like it is on rails -- is yours? Motor manufacturers do use parts from other makes so a bit of Mondeo is nothing derogatory. The S Type has the chassis from a Lincoln and the 2.7 diesel was developed by Ford and Peugeot. You will enjoy your X Type, get an Owners Club Sticker and put a bigger picture on the Website. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Brian, Is the bluetooth switched on on your phone and is the phone in the car with you? Sometime you forget the obvious! You will also need to pair the phone with the car. I had a 2005 x type SE [2.5 petrol] and it would not connect to My Samsung galaxy and I could never solve it. Regards, Peter.
  6. I hope it's not raining, Seb, unless you can do it under cover, Peter.
  7. Hi Andy, and Welcome to the club. Apparently batteries nowadays don't just gently die, but just go quickly. I would guess that it is the battery. Regards, Peter.
  8. My s type stops very quickly, although I have only had to do it a few times, mostly at traffic lights and idiots pulling out in front of you. Peter.
  9. The specifications for both the X Type and the S Type jaguar do not include a USB port. The Discs from MY SATNAV UPDATE are genuine Denso discs and not pirate discs. They are map updates which if bought from a Jaguar dealer would cost £161. I was quietly advised that looking at the internet would produce an identical and cheaper one with the most recent one for both the S Type and the X type being the 2012 one. Peter.
  10. Trevor has avery good point concerning the price of tyres. I had 17" Pirellis on my X Type and the price of new ones was around £105 each as against the price of 18" ones of around £150 each. Peter.
  11. Hi Trevor, I even know what a floppy disc is. I probably still have some which are probably with the vinyl records. Grumpy Old men --- as you say, Founder member! Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Trevor, My S type has two power sources but neither is specific for a USB port. You can get the standard car connection with a USB port connection, one of which I probably have somewhere. I will probably enter the 21st Century under tutelage from one of my grandchildren, probably the one who is just 7 who already has a Samsung Tablet. Regards, Peter.
  13. Then it's on to the handbrake!
  14. I am just a bit of a Luddite, Trevor and Brian. I got one of these new fangled CD's when my cars stopped coming with a cassette player. I just stick 6 in the boot and when I am fed up with them I change them. Peter.
  15. It is the right one, Brian, and it works fine. It is worth remembering that it is just the maps that are being updated. Before I bought mine I did a bit of checking and emailed MY SATNAV UPDATES just to check. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi John, I have spent a couple of hours trawling for right information without a great deal of success. However, on eBay there is an item that ought to be of use priced at £3.99 with free p&p -- Next Day delivery. It is for the S Type Jaguar 2001 to 2004: Jaguar S type Workshop service Manual for trade garage car. I thought of getting one but it is on disc and my car is a 2007 model. I hope this helps. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi John, I have checked back on a note I made against the TG reference and it does appear that the guide for an earlier [1999] model has been thrown up by the internet and not the one I originally saw. Sorry for setting you on a wild goose chase. I will have another look -- being a pensioner I have a bit of time -- and get back to you. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi John, The file I was referring to was not quite the one I sent you the details of. Try www.TG S-TYPEjagrepair.com You should get a technical guide up, and check out page 97. I will probably download and print it off even though it is directed at the USA and does not mention diesel engined cars. But the electrical systems are more of less the same. Let me know if I have got it right this time. Regards, Peter,
  19. Hi John, The Owner's Handbook is not very helpful in this respect, but there is a technical guide available to download -- www.jagrepair.com --- page 97 gives detail about resetting and disabling the message centre. I do have a code reader, but if the message centre is disabled it would be of little use. It does look as if the message centre has been disabled. Maybe the previous owner could tell you something about it? Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi John, The lamps should come on and the fact they don't must mean that that the devices are not connected. The voltage is perfect at 14V, and I agree with you that is a poor or indeed no connection. When I got my car [from Stratstone] the sales man told me that most drivers do not use the electronic handbrake as when in Park tha car is not going anywhere. I wonder if a previous owner has disconnected it somehow. I do use the handbrake myself because they would not put it on the car if it was not needed. Regards Peter.
  21. I bought an update disc for about £30 delivered. I emailed the site with my car's details and had a quick reply telling me the correct disc. Much cheaper than going through the Jaguar main dealer. Just follow the instructions about pairing a mobile 'phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy Fame and it was an easy job. Peter.
  22. Hi John, Tomorrow when it is in daylight --- There is a box in the boot near the driver's side headlight cluster that is the control for the EHB. The fatter wire resets the Handbrake. Worth trying. I have also just read that someone had a wire behind the dashboard that wore through which caused the same problem. Another thing I have read is that a battery that is not producing the right voltage may affect some of the electronic equipment, so putting it on charge might also help which is a quick fix. Anything that is at nil cost is worth trying first. Regard, Peter.
  23. Hi John, Is the handbrake not engaging? Or is it just the light not coming on when it is engaged? On the trip computer I am a bit mystified, although there are some instruction in the handbook about resetting it. I like in Sutton Coldfield and if you would like a comparison of what happens with my car, just give me a shout. Regards Peter.
  24. Hi John, My car is also an SE, so it must be a fault as the trip computer is a standard fitting. The waring light will be in the message centre saying "Handbrake fault" -- the other indication is that a red light come on on the instrument panel when the brake is engaged and goes off when disengaged. A thought just occurred to me that it could be a fuse -- which could also be the same problem with the trip computer. There are three fuse boxes, boot, engine bay and passenger compartment. Have you got the owners manual for that model. Peter.
  25. Hi John, What model have you got? [s, SE, or Sport]. It is certainly standard on the SE and Sport, and I think it is on the basic S model, though there are not many of those around. The electronic handbrake is also standard, although it can stick. If it is dead, it could just be the warning light, as when you go into drive or reverse it automatically disengages. Does any message come up in the message centre? Peter.
