When I want a bit more power I press the "S" button. Generally I don't completely trust bolt on accessories.

JLR are going in the right direction. Many older buildings have stood the test of time, whereas some of the newer ones have not done so. My first car was a 3 year old Triumph Herald which died of terminal rust when only 6 years old. Nowadays galvanised chassis and underbodies are commonplace as is powder coating, and other stronger materials are also being used in car construction. Standing still is no good to anyone. I am just waiting for the day when you can fill your fuel tank with tap water, throw in a capsule of something and drive 500 miles without having to fill up again.

Felin Foel, when they are all well oiled.

Hi Stan. The petrol engines [2.5L and 3.0L] should rev up to about 6.500 rpm so it looks to me as if the computer is overruling the throttle and running in limp home mode. I am no expert in these wonderful systems, [i knew a bit about the old side valves] so it might be a job for a friendly mechanic. I was just a humble steelworker whose answer to most things was a lump hammer.

You can only get technical abbreviations in Welsh for Welsh cars, the Dai Hatsu, for instance. Peter.

There are a few second hand ones on eBay [if you can trust them] priced around £60. Breakeryard is not a bad site, as well as Parts Gateway. The tray for a 2.7L diesel is different from the other S Type models. Peter.

Back again Stan, EVA is apparently something to do with The Evaporation control system.

Misfire --- Fuel --- Comprehensive Component Monitors -- ----------- and probably more etc etc that I can't guess at, I got this information from downloading and printing off the disc that came with the scan tool. I am uncertain what to do, other than erasing the scan history. I will have a look round the internet to see what I can find.

I live in Sutton Coldfield and use a mobile mechanic, and have done for over 10 years. Reliable and a lot cheaper than Stratsone. Contact me if you would like me to make contact with him.

Welcome to the Forum, Alan. I have a S Type SE on an 07 Plate. I don't think there should be any great difference between mine and yours. Mine has an under tray underneath the engine. In respect of the owners manual it must be that the one in your car is out of date, although there is not a great deal of extra information in the 2007 manual. Copies of those odd pages could be forwarded to you to supplement your manual which I could do if you wish.

Born and lived for 32 years in Widnes, Lancashire and now have lived for 32 years In Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, passing through Shotton, North Wales, and Dronfield, Derbyshire on the way.

Glad about that, Stan. Probably saved a few bob, too.

Trevor, I did a few bits of research before going for the diesel instead go the petrol engine, and some of the "experts" sat on the fence a bit. Most manufacturers seem to indicate that the Common Rail Diesel, and improved cleaner diesel, combined with a DPF and a well maintained engine give out less fumes than a petrol engine. But I suppose time will tell! Peter.

David Manners Group are not bad and a bit cheaper than the Main Dealers and do have genuine Jaguar parts. They are quite local to me, but do a good online service. eBay are sometimes a bit chancy, but there are some Jaguar Dismantlers who also operate an online service. Peter.

Very nice car indeed. Possibly not as economic as the 2.7 diesel. Peter.

I take it that the engine in your car is a 3.0L Petrol, Stan. I had a look around on the internet, and there was a video on You Tube showing how to replace the throttle control, but it was not very good. It would be worth getting a good local mechanic to have a look if it persists, or if you need to have a part fitted, rather than a main dealer who will charge £130 an hour. Let me know how you get on. Peter.

It does seem cheap, but it is a very high mileage averaging over 16k a year. I agree with Trevor K as I would also get an inspection done. I would also ask if there is a full warranty for at least a month, as it is from a dealer. I would also check out the reliability of the dealer, if you have any local contacts.

Welcome, Thomas. That X type looks very good indeed. I have a 2007 S Type 2.7D SE. Very nice car to drive and economical. There are not that many around with low mileages, though.
-
And another one, Stan. Specific to a 2000 s-type. justanswer.com/jaguar. it appears to be something to do with the throttle control.

Stan, I have had a look round on the internet and have found this link which might be of use. www.engine-light-help.com

There was an episode of "Wheeler Dealers" a few months ago which showed a refurbishment of an XK8 which had a continuing problem with the Limp-home mode. It was quite interesting to see how Ed China rectified it, which was exactly as Trevor suggested. In the end it was the sensor which was not that expensive, but the diagnosis was the bit that could be. Slightly away from topic the engine malfunction light on my S Type came on again yesterday, and the engine scanner which arrived on Friday came into use. Quite easy to use, although I was unable to get the connection correct, and it was too cold to keep trying! However, I must have frightened it as the light went off when I started the engine again.

Looks great. Enjoy!

I need a new exhaust for a Daimler double six 1986
Old Peter replied to JB_Daimler's topic in 1981 to 1994 XJ
Try David Manners Group [Oldbury and online] to get the part supplied. Genuine Jaguar/Daimler parts. -
I have found the connection point -- easy on an S Type. I just hope that I never get any malfunction lights on for a while, as the engine has only done 31k miles. I had new Jaguar genuine mud flaps/splash guards fitted yesterday bought from DMG who are quite near and which were £7 cheaper than the local Jaguar dealer, who also quoted £69 to fit them. My mechanic charged £20 and he came here to do the job!
