  1. Hi Bill, My alloys are the standard issue and cost a meagre £480 to refurbish and powder coat, including the real care wheel. Unfortunately the guy who did it is now out of the business. I do like the original bits on a car as it came from the factory Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Bill. I will look out for your car. I had my alloys refurbished and powder coated. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Colin, The battery in my S type when I bought it was almost new and had the date written on it. It was 4 years and 11 months old when I changed it. The battery I got was a Platinum and only lasted 3 years and 4 months. It only had a two year warranty, The battery that the AA fitted is a Bosch and is the battery that was marked as the one specified for the S Type Diesel. It also has a 5 year warranty, which gives me a bit of confidence. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Joe, With the current limits from the Government I have not done any real longer runs and following advice from yourself some time ago I bought a Ctek charger and also went to the trouble of having an exterior socket fitted by a local electrician who is very well qualified. I was charging the battery every time the charger gave the red signal but it soon appeared too often and caught me out by refusing to start in a Sainsbury's car park. The AA checked the battery and found it wasn't holding a charge. A Bosch battery was fitted and seems to be doing the job. It will go on the charger once a week! At a guess once starting the car it takes about 7 miles to give battery back the power used. I am also told that to keep the electrics in good order there should be at least 40 minutes driving every week -- a bit of a problem now! Regards, Peter.
  5. Yesterday an hour after a full charge my s type refused to start while I was in Pensioners Hour at the local Sainsbury's The AA were with me in 20 minutes and diagnosed that my three and a half year old battery was not holding a charge. The car was jump started to get me home a short distance away, and the AA engineer recommended [and I agreed] that a new battery was needed. Within a hour a new Bosch Battery was bought and fitted and all is now well. I never thought that a battery would fail in such a short time, but I had been having a problem in the last month which I put down to the weather. The AA engineer said that the S Type Diesel engine had a very powerful alternator and needed a battery that would be strong enough. Obviously the Platinum battery on my S type was not up to it!
  6. Hi Sean, I have heard that there is a good Independent Jaguar garage in Doncaster. I have not used it but it has a very good reputation, Regards Peter.
  7. Hi Owen, Nothing sinister there that a good Diagnostic tool will remove. Try a local garage. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi David, I think one of the sensors is out of action and needs replacing. I had the same happen to me a few months ago. I think that you could just switch off the rear "parking aids", or find which sensor is faulty. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Laura and welcome to the club. I get the same from my s type -- these cars have an auxiliary heater which heats the car interior on a cold day. But the diesel whiff on my car only lasts about ten seconds. I think it is possible that some of the covering into the cabin has worn or is a bit loose. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter. 10. Welcome to the club, Stephen. I have an S Type diesel [2007] and thoroughly enjoy the drive. Pity I can't pop round and see your cars! I live six miles away from the factory in which they were built, though. Enjoy both your cars and the club. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Hilary and welcome to the club. I have an s type with a disc and they do not make discs when the car has been 5 years after the model has been in production. So I have a 2012 disc! I think the XF has a USB point which will allow a main dealer to update your sat nav but the cost via a main dealer would probably be a bit pricey. Maybe other XF owners could assist here. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Tyrone, and welcome to the club. I also have an S type 2.7 diesel on a 2007 plate. I have never had any trouble with the DPF but I did have both EGR valves replace a few months ago as they were failing. I have used Wynns EGR cleaner but I have since found that Millers ECO plus diesel addition is a little better. I also use premium fuel which a mechanic recommended years ago. I also try to do a long run once a month to give the DPF a good clean and a full regeneration. Goo luck with yours, Regards, Peter.
