  1. Hi Peter J, Unfortunately I do not know the folding system on the XK, -- my s type has a manual system operated electrically from in side the car. For some reasoning an automatic system won't work on my car. You won't need to go to jaguar, as a good auto electrician could do the business. There are also members of the club who are expert in the electrical systems on Jaguars. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Des. I changed my Pirellis two and a half years ago for Goodyear Eagles, which I found quite good. I was "potholed" just over a month ago and had to change the front tyres. I was advised that Pirellis had improved very much over the last year or so, so I replaced the Goodyear tyres on the front with Pirellis, and found them performing quite well. I also found that the Goodyears were developing cracks in between the treads, which was surprising as then had only done about 12,000 miles. I found that the tyres supposedly made in Germany are now made in Poland. So Goodyear are crossed off the list, and Pirellis will go on the rear tyres when I have a spare £300 in the back pocket. Michelin are a well thought of tyre, and I would check them out -- where made etc, before making a decision. Regards, Peter.
  3. I had my water pump changed a bout three years ago. My mechanic knew where it was and it wasn't expensive! Peter.
  4. Hi Abrar, and welcome to the club. My s type is the third diesel that I have had. When I had the first I was given the good advice to always fill up the fuel tank when there was still about 50 miles worth of fuel. The best thing that the garage should have done would have been to flush out the fuel tank as there could be a blockage in the fuel pipes --- fuel tanks can get mucky inside. Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Martin. I have an s type 07plate and a 2.7 diesel. Like you, I find that it is a great car to drive and in the 6 years I have had mine I have enjoyed every minute. My car has done 85,000 miles, with minimal cost and my intention is to keep it forever [I am 85]. I would be inclined to keep you car -- it is one of the last to be made -- but in the event of more costly repairs I would look around for a similar s Type with a lower mileage. There are quite a few around in the UK. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Alex, When my X Type was stolen form my driveway the Insurance company refused to pay anything due to the key being in the ignition. The fact that I was remonstrating with the driver of the car parked across the driveway and which stopped any car getting out was not taken into account. The driver and the thief were in collusion. The hire car that was given to me by the insurance was a taken away without telling me, and some conversation [quite polite] took place with the insurance company, who told me that I could appeal against the decision. I indicated, again quite politely, the i would not appeal but would have a word with "Joe Bloggs" who happened to be the CEO of the company. They assumed i knew "Joe Bloggs", which `i didn't, but I had looked him up on the internet. No further discussion. A phone call the next morning from the PA of the CEO said that they had discussed the matter and the company would pay up with a satisfactory amount, Peter, PS> The two scroats and a third scroat who looked after the hiding of the stolen vehicle were caught after my description of the two who actually stole the vehicle to the police were caught and `i had call of thanks from the police as they had been after them for 3 years. They all were given 8 years in one of HM,s properties.
  7. Sounds good,Alex. Maybe you will get the insurance to pay up. You could mention that you are doing much of the work and they should take that into account. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Alex, Joe [as always] has given you some very good advice, and a lot depends on cost even when dried out. It is probably the cost of restoring the electrics to working order that the insurers are looking at and pricing accordingly. I have only experienced a write off once -- June 1971 when a butcher in his van wrote off my Austin 1100 - the offer was a poor £140. I managed to convince them with a receipt of two months before, the cost I had incurred with an engine repair of £90. The settlement of £195 was much better. Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Steven. I nearly had a Grey s type , but I found an indigo blue metallic. Peter.
  10. That's a start, Alex.
  11. Hi Neville, Sounds a bit expensive. Peter.
  12. Hi Alex, and welcome to the club. I can't say "Enjoy your Jaguar", but I can commiserate on your misfortune. It might be a successful repair but that depends a lot on how long it takes to dry out. One of my sons who works for the Environment Agency was called out yesterday afternoon to assist in evacuating premises in Shropshire that was suffering because of the floods. Let us know how you go on and good luck. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the the club, Dale. A rare colour, and looks rather good. There is a For Sale section on the Website. Regards, Peter.
  14. I have only been able to get the s type 2012 version. 2018 would be a miracle. Link please. Peter.
  15. HI Ted and welcome to the club, I don't know about Canada but the last one for s types and x types was the 2012 version. I would try the internet and see what comes up. Regards, Peter.
  16. My S Type used to do a bit of bubbling occasionally but it seems to have stopped. I have not had a spate of bubbling for the last three years. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Kamil. The diesel engine in your car does need a long run about once a month -- about 20 minutes keeping over 45 mpg, or putting the car into third gear to keep the Revs higher. You should also use premium fuel and you can also give the engine an additive [I use Millers Eco plus Diesel] every time you fill up. I have never had a problem with my S type with the V6 2.7 diesel. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Terry, and welcome to the club. Main dealers were charging about £350 [Special Offer] about 5 years ago, so at a guess they might quote you about £450. The best way to find out is to ring a main dealer and ask. Try several garages to see how the ind is blowing. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Pete and Pauline, and welcome to the club. You will soon get the Jaguar feeling in your bones. Just relax and enjoy, Regards, Peter. This sticker i use when I enter God's own county -- The County Palatine of Lancashire.
  20. Hi Mike, I have been getting several messages similar to yours, even when the car has just been serviced. It disappears when the engine has been going for a minute. Peter.
  21. Hi Darren, and welcome to the club. The s type is a great car to drive, holds the road well and is still a head turner. You car is similar to mine and you should always treat it to premium diesel fuel and you will get a very good fuel consumption. Regards, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the club, Stephen, It's a pity there wasn't a car attached to it! At a guess, I would place it in the early sixties, and again at a guess, I think you are right about the Sovereign . You might get some one who would like it. Regards, Peter. !7th March whatever year you want!
  23. Hi Rob and welcome to the club. We live on the Staffordshire border so I will look out for you. My S Type is Indigo Blue with Dove Grey interior - the same as Ivory with a different name. The JOC is a friendly club, and you will get some useful information, and we hope you share your experience with other members. Enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Randy, and welcome to the club. My best suggestion would be to contact the company that replaced the windscreen. I don't think that normal part suppliers would be able to do so. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Paul, I have not had the airbag issue, but I have a had a gearbox one which took some finding out, but the mechanic i have used for 17 years resolved it when the AA man could not. The "Restricted Performance" light came on and the OBD2 code reader just gave gearbox fault. I am currently doing an Advanced Motorists Course, and have been using the manual gears to give me some "drag" in urban areas, and the ECU didn't like it. The ECU thought that when I used 3rd gear I should have gone into 4th gear instead of into Drive in Auto. So the ECU gave me a telling off. The ECU seems to keep hold of faults and let you know that you have had one a month ago just to keep you lively as restricted performance came on last week. I took charge and using my £20 OBD2 reader I erased it to show it who was the boss. It never came back. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.
