  1. Welcome to the club, Rob. The X Type estate is a great workhorse as well as a comfortable car to drive. [One of my sons has one]. What model is it? I had a saloon with the 2.5 V6 engine with all wheel drive - a bit thirsty if you drove it hard, but if you gave it a steady run 35 mpg was not uncommon. Enjoy the experience, Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Andrew and welcome to the club. I don't know the XF gearbox system, but I do know that the gearbox can be fiddled with, -- a bit like pressing the button on the s type which holds the car in lower gears giving you extra speed when accelerating. Just a guess. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, Bern. I think you are a master of the understatement! You will be a great asset to the club members, and particularly those who have classic Jaguars. Regards, Peter,
  4. Nice to see you back. My S Type is still going well and was in Kent last week! Enjoy your F Pace. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Ian, My s type had the water problem over 6 year s ago when I first bought it. It had been sitting in a dry garage for a few months. Cleaning the water seals resolved the problem. My s type on an 2007 plate has a proper spare wheel in the boot which cost the first owner about £400 as an optional extra. It came out of Castle Bromwich with it in the boot. My wife has a Toyota Yaris which came with the tyre gunge and a tyre inflater. A look around on eBay got a matching rim in good condition and the appropriate tyre was fitted. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi, I had the shaped one on an X type and a rectangular on on my S type. Neither bothered me. Peter.
  7. Hi Clive, Nice warm place! Your s type is the same colour as mine and was manufactured just 6 miles from where I live. We make good cars in Brummagem -- the colloquial name for Birmingham! Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi All, This is a post I made on June 20th 2016. I did say that I was writing/researching a short book, but time turned it into a longer book. The information I obtained came in part from the JOC members but much from newspapers of the time, personal knowledge and Wikipedia. I also had talks with Mary Sayer, the daughter of the late Malcolm Sayer, a most prominent designer of several Jaguars, including the E type. I also had a very useful discussion with Sir John Egan who was the Chief Executive Officer of Jaguar Cars and was the man who saved Jaguar from disappearing from the Automotive Industry. Having a morning with Sir John in his house in Warwick was extremely enlightening. The book is now finished, proof read, and now at the printers. It also has a new title "Jaguar -- the Cars and the People." If you want more information about the book it is to be found at --- Transporterama.co.uk -- the online bookseller. The book consists of the history of Jaguar Cars from Swallow Sidecars until 2007 when TATA took over Jaguar [That may be another book]. I think the book is a good read [I would say that, wouldn't I?] It covers the cars that Jaguar build plus the people who made them. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Nick, That does seem too low. I think 14 volts should be nearer. Do you charge the battery regularly or have longer drives to keep the battery fully charged. If so, the battery should be changed under the warranty. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Peter, and Welcome to the club. If you have a OBD2 scanner you could delete the warning message. Sometimes the message stays on for some reason or other. The AA/RAC could do that. There is no restricted performance so I am guessing that the red light won't be coming on. I think that most garages would delete the message for about £40 or less. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Andy, Batteries only seem to last for 5 years on Jaguars -- so much electrical whatnots! Regards, Peter.
  12. I will look out for you, Dave,
  13. Hi Rory, I am driving my second Jaguar, an s type [2007] with a diesel engine, just a simple SE which has now 84k on the clock. It replaced my X Type 2.5 Petrol SE [2005]. I was 77 when I bought my first one and 79 when I bought my present one which I have had for 6 years. Neither car was/is that thirsty. A lot depends how you drive. Your XFS with the 4.2 engine will be somewhat thirsty, and you have got to live with it but also enjoy it. My humble 12 year old S Type is a pleasure to drive and is both quick, comfortable and classy. You have a choice. Regards, Peter,
  14. Hi Andy, It is something that happens when the battery is low. I charge my car once a fortnight as I don't do a big mileage. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Andy, Disconnect the battery for 10 seconds then reconnect. You will have to keep your ignition key in your pocket, as the alarm will go off when you reconnect. When you start the engine, just follow the message instruction -- press both footbrake and hand brake. You will need to have your radio code to hand. You will also have to reset all windows, volume, clock etc. Also, to stop it happening too often keep you battery charged. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the club, Phillip. You will enjoy the s type, As Bill Lyons said "Grace, Space and Pace", Regards Peter,
  17. Hi Patrick, and welcome to the club. At a guess, I would say that the disc is the issue. It could need either cleaning or replacing - plenty of discs can be found via google. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Jason, I have been to Gayden a couple of times, and I and my wife are coming next Saturday. Look out for an S type which is in a nice shiny blue.We will probably arrive about 10.30. The Reg No [in part] is NGG. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the club, Eric. A visit to the dealer from which you bought it would be what I would do. Regards, Peter
  20. There is no way of altering the "Road Fund" Tax. When the car comes off the Production line the tax is a fixed sum.
  21. Hi Rob and welcome to the club. Joe has given you a very correct answer. The first few x type were Mondeos rebadged. They sold about half a dozen. The 2.2 Diesel engine is also used in the XF. Regards, Peter.
  22. I have changed the battery a couple of years ago and had no problem at all. I also had to replace a terminal on another occasion quite easily. Peter.
  23. Hi Giles, When I got the leaper on my s type [also a 2.7D] I bought one that was attached by an adhesive pad. It has held on quite firmly for 5 years. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Peter, I am not a mechanic, and getting a bit too old to get underneath cars any more -- I have a good mobile mechanic who has looked after my cars for the last 18 years. If you are doing the wheel replacement yourself it is always wise to look at other parts as well. Regards, Peter.
