Welcome to the Club, Stephan. Your X Type sounds like a very good car. I had a similar version on an 05 plate, with the only difference being that it was a manual gearbox. The All Wheel Drive makes it an exceptional road holder, although the term "nippy" does not go well with a Jaguar, it was described as so in a review. Just enjoy your Jaguar and the club. Regards, Peter.

Hi Pete, I would guess that Classic Car Club might be able to give you some ideas as to value. It might also be worth to look at some auction results. I am sure you could find some on the internet. Regards, Peter.

Hi Aj, Coolant is one of the facts that I saw when I googled the issue. Joe has given you some good information, as always! Regards, Peter.

H Akaj, I am no mechanical expert, but I see that you have done quite a lot to correct it. If you google Car Treatments.com you will find a few reasons why, some of which you might have missed. Good Luck, Regards, Peter.

Hi Sandra, and welcome to the club. One of my son's has a diesel X type 2.0 litre on an 06 plate. I assume your's is the same model. There can be several causes of Black smoke, but basically is is non burnt fuel. This can be easily cured, as all that is wrong is the fuel system that needs cleaning. First, put a useful additive in the fuel tank as it could be a faulty/clogged up EGR valve, [which is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve] I use Millers Diesel Power Eco Max which will give you a clean 500 litres of fuel. One dash in the fuel tank every fill up. I also use premium fuel, which is well worth the higher price. Let us know how you get on with that before having a look at other things such as the turbocharger. I am fairly confident that it is the EGR valve, though. Regards, Peter.

Hi Nathan, They are the best to try out. It might be worth going to one if you can find one in your locality. Not to put your car on sale but to see how it goes. Having a chat to the auctioneer might be useful. Regards, Peter.

Hi Nathan, I wouldn't think 96k miles would make a difference -- it just shows that it had spent some time on the road. The £60k refurbishment would, though, and my rough estimate could well be ripped up! It is just finding the right place to put the car o the market, though. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club ,Nathan. That is one very nice car! I would guess that it is worth quite a lot of money. I would guess, that if it runs well, the sum of £25,000 would not be unreasonable. On a good day with interested buyers, it would make very interesting bidding. Regards, Peter.

There are some who remember this aeroplane --- it was very useful in WW2, and it had a unique exhaust system. Other aircraft's exhaust systens flamed when the engine started, which did not help at night. This aircraft had an exhaust that did not flame. The designer of this exhaust system was a young engineer name Malcolm Sayer, who some years later modified the Jagaur XK 120, [the C type] and the XK 140 [the D Type], both great racing cars, and who designed the car described as "the most beautiful car I have ever seen" and that was from Enzo Ferrari. Malcolm Sayer was asked by Bill Lyons to design a successor for the D type, and did so. The E type shown is being drivenby Mary Sayer, the youngest daughter of Malcolm.

Hi Anthony, My s type only has the opening system, and it does jump into life with gusto when the button is pressed. So at a guess, I would be inclined to give it a squirt of WD40. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dominic, Yes, David Manners are very good and quite close to where I live. Genuine Jaguar parts. You can also try Jagpartseurope ltd or Jaguar Parts 24/7 for second hand parts. Regards, Peter.

Hi Alan and welcome to the club. I had more powerful [20%] fitted by Halfords, but they did not fit them properly. They had to be corrected when my car went for the MOT. But the lights are a bit better. You will be able to get the bulbs from Halfords or any other good accessory shop. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Ashley, You will enjoy the S Type, - I have enjoyed mine for the last 6 years and wouldn't change it. Regards, Peter.
-
Not necessary, Marcos. but I usually start the engine when it has happened to me. Peter.

Hi Marcus and welcome to the club. Make sure you have the radio code to hand and the car key in your pocket. Disconnect the battery and after 10 seconds or so reconnect. The alarm will go off, so shut it off wing the key. You will also have to press down the bake pedal and with off the handbrake. It should now work OK. You will have to reset your radio, windows and sounds. It is useful to keep the battery charged. Let me know if this works with your car. It should. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jim. once to see you here. There are several members highly qualified in the mysteries of electrics, and I am sure they will give you some great advice. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Kev. Glad you are enjoying your Jaguar, and I hop that you enjoy the club just as much. Regards, Peter.

Hi Andy, and welcome to the club. I have had my s type for 6 years [2.7 d] and changing the EGR valves and a water pump have been the only issues. The car holds the road well, is the epitome of comfort and surprisingly economical. Just one small piece of advise -- Batteries last about 5 years as there are a lot of electronics in the car. Regards, Peter.

Yes, Ian. But putting them back is the tricky part of the job, and they could not be properly settled. -

Hi David, and welcome to the club. Have you tried replacing the bulbs? I had a similar problem on my s type -- a bulb change cured it. Regards, Peter. -
xkr-s 2005/6 Help please with paint colours
Old Peter replied to HelinaB's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Welcome to the Club, Helina. You should find the code for the car you are looking for on the offside door -- it is on the s type. A good main dealer should be able to give you the exact information, and it should be on the DVLA records, which you can look up just by using the Registration number on the You Gov website. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter. PS I should have said the "Left Hand side door." -
Hi Peter and welcome to the club, A quite unique S Type -- one of the first and a good buy for someone. A squirt or two of WD40 might solve the problem on the offside rear door. Regards, Peter. A bit older than the younger one but younger that the Older one!!!

Welcome to the Club. Lee. Jaguars do get a grip on you. I have had my s type 2.7D for 6 years with hardly a problem. Have an enjoyable day next Friday. Regards, Peter.

Hi Bob, I do not know the XF touchscreen Sat Nav system but on the s type you have to set the system to the country in which you are. It worked well for me in Ireland. Regards, Peter.
