  1. Hi David, and welcome to the club. The best way to find a source for a catalytic converter in your locality is to just google "Catalytic Converter". There is also a very well recommended Garage in Doncaster that is a Jaguar Specialist who could also assist. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi John, The other John Birchall died two years ago -- he was 82. I just wondered if there were any relations. Good luck with the reset -- some have done it in one go. Some have taken three shots at it! Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Andy, Personally I don't feel the anything will be achieved by blocking off the EGR valves. Experts designed these rather good engines, and it is the government + climate control regulations the has introduced EGR Valves, DPFs, and other additions to the exhaust systems. Not being a design engineer I tend to go along with the principle that I should manage my car in the condition it left the factory. [mine left the production line in Castle Bromwich on 13th March 2007, and only the Leaping Jaguar on the bonnet is what is different. The engine is the same - no remapping or similar "improvements" -- the exhaust will last as long as the car being of stainless steel and I guess the car will last as long as me. [I am now heading towards my 85th Birthday.] The cost of maintenance of a Jaguar is not that high if you look towards preventing problems rather than fixing them after the event. My recommendation is Premium fuel and the odd additive. Changing the oil when it needs doing. Checking the tyres, the battery, and the engine fluids. But that's just me. I have a degree in nitpicking but it does seem to work. Regards, Peter.
  4. Yes John. Hope you can read the attachment below. Regards, Peter. P.S. My cricket Captain years ago was named Joh Birchall and came from Golbourne!
  5. Hi Andy, I had heard that blanking off the EGR valves presents a problem because they operate electrically. It appears that only a partial block can be done. At the same time I would be wary of what can happen with the MOT. Currently the tester has to do a visual exhaust test and an automatic fail could be made possible by the Government. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, John. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience -- just use premium fuel and the big cat will do a great job. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Keith, I hope you have a good holiday. --- And the cost of two new EGR valves supplied and fitted by Carl is £420 which is rather good. Carl will check everything out first. I could hear No. 1 valve clicking which means it was refusing to open. [P0404] Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Ray. I do not use Supermarket fuel, as there is a Shell station 500 yards away from where I live, but I do know a few who have never had a problem with it and a few who have. While that is not a useful answer I would think that if the engine is not operating correctly after a fuel fill up I would suggest either cleaning out the engine by removing the fuel or using a fuel system cleaning additive. Diesel engines are usually very sensitive to fuel quality, and if your car is a diesel using a premium fuel is always recommended. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Keith, I have just had the same experience, and what I did was to call out the AA on Sunday morning. Result:- As below. The AA mechanic was brilliant and his testing showed that the OBD2 diagnosis of Code P0404 was a faulty EGR valve that was causing the gas circulation around the valves and was the left side ]EGR valve 1] that was completely dead. I already knew the code P0402 was valve 2 not working correctly. Diagnosis was EGR valves were in need of replacement. Carl has ordered 2 EGR valves and as he is on holiday next week he is fitting them on 22nd Jan. I hope this helps. Regards Peter.
  10. Hi Rodney, Just got my quote [exact] for two EGR valves for my s type. My mechanic got a discount on genuine Jaguar EGR valves coming in a £135 each, £50n each off the standard price of £185. Add Labour at £150 I will pay £420. Less than I thought. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Rodney, The s type has two EGR valves so I get to pay twice as much! Cheers, Peter.
  12. Hi Tim, I have been very lucky with the DPF issue so far. I think that there is something awry with your car, though. I would have thought that there would have been some kind of amber warning that the DPF was getting ready for regeneration or indicating that a regeneration is taking place. I have heard that the revs increase when a regeneration is occurring, but personally I have never had that happen. I would be inclined to go to ebay for a replacement, get the MOT, and then find someone who knows about cars rather than someone who is going to tell you that there isn't a problem, really. On another slightly different topic, my s-type is sitting on my driveway waiting for the mechanic I have used for over 17 years to ring me us with a price to replace both EGR valves which are causing the restricted performance message. I don't expect a figure less than £360 for the two and that is without the fitting cost, probably about £100. A main dealer would be charging much more than that! Let us know how you go on. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi John, I got a pair of Bosch Wiper blades for my s type from my local accessory shop. £29 fitted as against Halfords £42. They have the spray bar, as were the last pair I got three years ago. I think that someone is talking nonsense. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the club, Steve. The club is a friendly organisation, and you will also find it very helpful. The s-type is a great car which you will enjoy, and as another owner I am pleased to see that the model is able to last a long time. Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Steve, I do know that some members have been to this meeting and enjoyed it. I have thought about it but have not yet been. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Paul, I assume your x type has the 2.2 litre diesel engine. If so, I would advise that the new MOT rules say that if the DPF has been removed it will be an automatic failure. If you are lucky, the tester will think that it has not been removed. If unlucky you will be looking at four figures to replace the DPF. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Danny. The Jaguar experience is quite unique, and once you have driven a Jaguar, you won't want another make of car. Just Enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Terry, That mileage does seem to be not what i would have expected from new tyres. I would be inclined to go back to the garage that supplied and fitted the tyres to seek their opinion. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Andy. I also had company cars for 30 years, but I did retire prior to the s type being manufactured. My Rover Sterling was the car of choice in 1999 but when I retired it in 2011 a Jaguar was them my choice. After an X Type AWD which was borrowed by two scroats who were given free accommodation by Her Majesty for 8 years and I bought my s type in June 2013. I have only had one real repair made when the water pump failed and I had to shell out £135 for a new one to be fitted. The s type -- I have the 2.7 diesel SE with many bells and whistles -- drives beautifully and on one occasion I managed to get 50.2 mpg in the 90 mile drive to Sheffield. One little piece of advice is to use Premium Fuel, and the odd occasional additive to keep the fuel system clean. Regards, Peter.
  20. Welcome to the club, Kalvy. The X type is a good car and nice to drive. I had an X Type 2.5 litre AWD whichI thoroughly enjoyed. One little bit of advice is to use premium fuel, as it does make a difference with diesel engines. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Lucasz, Jaguar Parts 24/7.co.uk --- 07748 280772 or Jaguar parts europe ltd ----07484 070632 I have used both and found them quite reasonable. Regards, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the club Ross. Good start for the new Year. When I bought my first Jaguar the salesman told me that the Jaguar experience would make you want to drive a Jaguar for ever -- Quite True. Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Marius Joe had offered you some excellent advice [as always]. I don't know if you have checked the child lock on the rear doors, --- some other owner might have switched them on! Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Paul [Bucks] You can also get access to the boot as there is a manual entry lock on the boot lid to the left of the number plate. Peter.
  25. Hi Mick, These photos may assist. Peter.
